007: First Light is perhaps the best video game adaptation of James Bond. IO Interactive has gone above and beyond with faithfully adapting everything that makes this cultural spy icon stand out.

Among those faithful elements are the various gadgets that Bond can use. These are given to you by Q or specific characters right before you embark on certain missions and remain your main loadout for a couple of segments until you can obviously get the chance to change them again.

You unlock each gadget slowly throughout the main story missions, but even without too many options for most of the main story, it can be confusing to decide which ones you want to take. But that's exactly where this guide can help you decide the best gadget to pick for each mission in 007 First Light.

Not technically classified as a gadget, but since it belongs to your Q-Watch, the Q-Lens allows you to scan various NPCs, hostile targets, and detect any environmental interactions in the world.

Unlocked in Mission 2: A New Home

Dart Phone

Allows you to fire a toxin-infused dart at an NPC, subduing them briefly and causing them to leave their current post or position. It can also be used as a distraction tool for pickpocketing.

Smoke Pod

Disguised cleverly as a lighter. This gadget lets you throw out a concealing smoke blast at an enemy to escape a situation or execute a hidden takedown.

Shockwave Camera

It may look like an ordinary camera, but you can use it to launch an impactful shockwave that can stagger enemies. You can also use it to blast open locked doors or destroy environmental obstructions.

Here are 10 games you should play if you love 007 First Light.

The Best Gadgets in 007 First Light

Dart Phone

Dart Phone

With a basic explanation of each of the seven main gadgets out of the way, the first most valuable gadget that I recommend having for every single mission in 007 First Light is the Dart Phone. You're genuinely doing a disservice to yourself by not bringing this along, since it is the only thing that can help you move enemies and NPCs away from their positions and be briefly stunned.

I made the mistake of not bringing it in my loadout for a specific mission, which cost me almost half of the opportunities there, since there was no other optimal way to distract hostile targets for a longer timeframe to move past them discreetly. The game gives you a couple of other options, for sure, but it is a no-brainer to bring the Dart Phone on every mission just because of how accessible it makes those stealth-based encounters.

Laser Strap

Laser Strap

If you're going for the game's Platinum Trophy/100% completion, then the Laser Strap is a must-have as soon as you unlock it. This is because quite a few of the locked pathways in the later stages of the game will sometimes have collectibles tucked away in them.

This means you can use the Laser Strap to then easily open them up to collect those, or just have an easier time getting your objectives done, since some of these act as shortcuts (such as locked vents) to reach certain main story areas. You can also use it as a quick distraction tool should you need it, but mainly have it ready to break open those pesky locks and chains.

Missile Pen

Missile Pen 007 First Light

The Knightfall mission introduces you to the most powerful gadget in the game, the Missile Pen. And while the whole introductory setpiece thereafter gives you a surplus amount of chemical resources to spam this on the swarm of armed enemies, I'll strongly recommend you keep this for the remainder of the game, especially in the following mission, Time to Die.

That's because while you'll still have optional stealth segments, there is still a fair number of firefights and high-octane encounters that will occur until the finale of 007 First Light sets in. So if you want an easier time taking out those large groups of enemies, having the Missile Pen in the endgame missions is extremely crucial.

Smoke Pod

And finally, until you get your hands on the Missile Pen, you can safely use the Smoke Pod if you're not a fan of the Dart Phone or the Laser Strap. Again, this is just an alternative option. The Smoke Pod will make most of the stealth-focused encounters feel like a breeze, especially when you're cornered with enemies in the vicinity. The smoke radius is big enough to give you a full concealed blind spot, enough to freely escape from any alarmed or suspicious enemies should you choose to use this in missions.
