007 First Light: Everything We Know About The Hitman Devs’ James Bond Game

It’s been over a decade since the last major 007 video game, and longer still since the last good one. So there’s a lot of buzz around IO Interactive’s upcoming 007 First Light. But this isn’t another first-person shooter trying to chase after the beloved N64 GoldenEye. Instead, IOI is making something very different than most other Bond games, and that has many fans, myself included, intrigued. Could this be the first Bond game to truly nail the vibe? Hopefully so. Here’s everything we know about 007 First Light.

What is 007 First Light?

007 First Light is a new third-person action-adventure game starring James Bond, from Hitman developers IO Interactive. It isn’t connected to any of the past Bond games or movies. Instead, First Light acts as an origin story for the famous super spy, revealing how he first got noticed by MI6 and his early missions with the group.

Is Daniel Craig in this game?

Nope! This time around, Bond is played by actor Patrick Gibson. No past Bond actor is returning for First Light. This is a completely new story inspired by the original Bond novels, although I also expect some nods to past games and movies to be included, as any legacy IP content in 2026 is legally required to do so.

When is 007 First Light launching?

First Light launches on March 27, 2026. However, if you digitally pre-order any version of the game ahead of its launch, you’ll be able to play 24 hours early on March 26. And if you want to spend $300 on a Golden Gun version of the game, which comes with a prop Golden Gun, you can totally do that for some reason.

What platforms will it be available on?

007 First Light launches in March on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Switch 2. It won’t be available on PS4, Xbox One, or the OG Switch. I don’t expect it to run great on Steam Deck, but we’ll see.

Is there multiplayer in 007 First Light?

No. This is a single-player-only game. But hey, IOI is adding co-op to Hitman a few years after launch, so who knows. Maybe one day. But at least for now, 007 First Light is being developed and marketed as a solo experience.

Will there be driving segments in 007 First Light?

Yes! It wouldn’t be a James Bond adventure if there weren’t at least one or two exciting car chases involving expensive cars and gorgeous scenery. 007 First Light will include driving segments, but don’t expect to be hopping into any car you spot because…

Is 007 First Light an open-world game?

No, this isn’t some big open-world game ala GTA or Far Cry. Instead, First Light is a linear action game that offers plenty of player choice and different ways to complete some objectives. You can be more sneaky and talk your way past guards, or go in guns blazing, or maybe use some hand-to-hand combat. You’ll even have access to gadgets courtesy of M to help you out during missions. But this isn’t a big open world with side quests to complete.

Are we not getting more Hitman?

IOI is currently focused on 007 First Light, but don’t worry, the studio has made it clear that it isn’t done with Agent 47. In fact, IOI continues to update and improve the most recent Hitman game and has promised more Hitman adventures in the future.
