007 First Light: How to Solve the Hidden Mechanism Animal Puzzle

007 First Light forces the player to make a lot of decisions during combat and stealth encounters. While it's rare that you need to put on your thinking cap for puzzles, it does happen a handful of times throughout the main story.

One of the first puzzles you'll encounter in 007 First Light is when you are trying to hunt down the blonde bellman, who is acting very mysterious. As you get closer to his location, you are tasked with opening a hidden mechanism by pushing the dials in the correct order. Figuring out the correct order can be tricky.

Finding the solution to this hidden mechanism took me a long time, even though the answer was right under my nose. If you are having trouble opening the door with the hidden mechanism, this guide is for you. Read further to learn how to solve the hidden mechanism puzzle in 007 First Light.

When you first enter the room with the hidden mechanism, Bond will mention that there's a note on a table nearby. After picking up the note and reading it, Bond takes note that it's written in a different language, and he can't entirely figure out what it's saying. However, it does point to a hidden mechanism nearby.

The hidden mechanism can be found against the north wall above the fireplace, and it's almost impossible to miss. It consists of six dials, each with a different animal imprinted on them. The objective here is to press the correct dials, pressing three in total. However, guessing here is almost impossible, and instead you need to find clues throughout the room.

If you look at the flags throughout the room, you will notice an interesting-looking beast painted on them. You may look at this beast and think nothing of it, since it looks nothing like the animal symbols on the dials in the hidden mechanism, but you can actually find the answer by looking at it closely.

After closer inspection of the beast on the flag, you will notice that it's actually a combination of three animals. The tail is made up of a snake, the rider is a goat, and the face is that of a lion. In other words, you need to press the following dials on the mechanism: snake, lion, goat.

After pressing those three dials, the hidden mechanism will push itself in and a pathway will reveal itself behind it. This path leads to the next section of the game, and gets you one step closer to finding the blonde bellman who clearly has crucial information you need.

It's important to note that if you go through the opening, the door behind you will close, and you will be forced to continue forward. In other words, if you have any unfinished business or simply want to explore the area more before moving on, then I recommend doing that first. However, if you end up progressing forward and decide that you want to go back, you can always replay the mission in chapter select after beating the game.
