The runtime for the upcoming 007 First Light by IO Interactive has been revealed, and it will have much more playtime than fans realized, with a campaign that takes longer to complete than most Hitman titles.
007 First Light is a prequel game that depicts James Bond's recruitment, spy training, and his first real mission. As a Bond title, this means lots of shooting, driving, and charming people in fancy locations. As 007 First Light has lots of cutscenes, with Patrick Gibson portraying the younger Bond, it's unclear just how much time people will be watching and when they'll be playing.
8 Best Hitman Games, Ranked
All the mainline Hitman games since the year 2000, ranked.
The amount of content in 007 First Light has been confirmed by Youtuber JorRaptor (via Insider Gaming), who claims that the developers told him that the main campaign will take around 20 hours to complete, with a ton of replayability for its individual missions, thanks to toggable difficulty markers that make the game more challenging.
007 First Light Is Longer Than Fans Thought
If the 007 First Light runtime is accurate, then it makes it longer than most entries in IO Interactive's Hitman series, which usually clock in at around ten hours each. The exception to this is Hitman: World of Assassination, which transformed the game into a live service thanks to new missions added via DLC, including crossovers like Bruce Lee.
It's possible that 007 First Light could go the post-launch route, though the fact that the James Bond license is owned by Amazon could present complications. It mostly depends on whether 007 First Light is a hit at launch, as if it's a big seller, then the DLC will follow.
If the 007 First Light runtime is accurate, then it makes it longer than most entries in IO Interactive's Hitman series, which usually clock in at around ten hours each.
The replayability is more of a question than the runtime, as that's something more of interest to the hardcore stealth crowd than the casual gamer. The Hitman series has a reputation for players starting out stealthy, screwing up once, then killing everyone in sight. Most players aren't interested in ultra-difficult stages that punish mistakes, regardless of the rewards on offer.
007 First Light looks incredible in the footage released so far, and a 20-hour runtime is more than respectable for an action stealth title. If Bond manages to be interesting throguhout that length of time, then it'll be one of his easiest missions to date.
