Beyond RTS classics, he also has a soft spot for WWII shooters, mystery and puzzle games, indie roguelites, and RPGs that do not demand too much grinding.

One of the most exciting aspects of playing open-world games is that many of them allow us to just go around and do whatever we want. And guess what? This feature gets even more exciting when the game gives you insane powers so that you can dominate the world around you without worrying.

Where the environment is more challenging than any boss fight

Many games can give you extra powers via cheats, but that can break the fun since you know the game wasn't made for that. That's why we've decided to make a list of those games that, without any bug exploits or codes, organically give you the ability to have unlimited fun in the limitless world feeling like a superhero.

10 Forspoken

Too Many Spells to Choose From

Frey Holland Fighting in Forspoken

Forspoken is an open-world RPG that really lets you fast-pace through the world of Athia, exploring it and hammering down enemies with more than 100 spells in your inventory, making you a sort of superhero figure. The game's storyline puts a New York girl into a whole new world, where an immunity bracelet helps her dodge the corruption everyone else feels.

Further, fighting large enemies can give you that superhero vibe, where a seeming underdog, in the end, beats all their opponents. And the apocalyptic environments of those fights bring an even more epic atmosphere, which makes you feel like a genuine deity. Despite all this, the world and enemies rarely react to your powers in ways that make you feel overwhelmingly influential.

9 Dragon's Dogma 2

Unique Endings for Unique Adventurers

Dragon's Dogma 2

Dragon's Dogma 2 is another RPG that has a very lively combat system, where you often meet gigantic beastly enemies that you can fight through the open world with up to 3 AI-controlled allies called pawns. What makes it feel like a superhero experience, however, is the later stage of the game, where you can dominate enemies through higher levels and the unlocking of the Wayfarer class, which allows you to equip any weapon and mix and match skills from different vocations.

The game is also unique because its world isn’t heavily scripted and instead reacts naturally to what you do, or don’t do. Without spoiling anything, it also has multiple endings that come from specific chains of events, and those endings can then change the world around you. Still, the game keeps you vulnerable often, preventing you from having a truly immortal superhero feeling.

8 Destroy All Humans! 2

Humans Are at Your Mercy

Another guy who can make you feel like an almighty superhero (more like a villain) is definitely an invading alien with a big arsenal of weapons and abilities which he uses to conquer the planet. In Destroy All Humans 2, you go around manipulating people and objects around you, and can even destroy whole buildings from your flying saucer, which definitely helps in giving you that almighty feeling.

And weapons aren't only powerful, they're fun too. Free Love makes people go into psychedelic dancing mode, Anal Probe kills them in an unpleasant manner, while the Dislocator turns them into a bouncing gravity-free ball that flies off unpredictably. As you can see, there are many ways of playing around with humans and their faith.

The reason Destroy All Humans 2 ranks lower than some other games is that the worlds are more sandbox hubs than massive open worlds, and things like flying around when you're out of the spaceship are pretty limited.

An Overpowered Character or a Superhero?

Elder Scrolls Skyrim Dragonborn Close Up

Now legendary, Skyrim is the open-world RPG that has inspired many similar games and has earned its place on this list. Like in many classical RPG experiences, the world is at your feet the more powerful you are, and that is no secret. What can make it superhero-like are some specific abilities like slowing down time, summoning dragons, becoming invisible, or being able to wipe out an entire fortress on your own.

Also, the rich modding community has helped this game feel like a divine experience. For example, a mod like Apocalypse - Magic of Skyrim adds 175 new spells to help you dominate the world, or Ordinator - Perks of Skyrim, which redesigns the perk trees, offering you possibilities of some new and extreme builds.

Still, even with plenty of power-wielding that you have, without the mods in Skyrim, the protagonist can often feel more like a temporarily overpowered character than a real superhero, so the game takes its honorable place in the middle of the list.

6 inFamous: Second Son

Superheroes Can Shapeshift, Right?

Infamous Second Son Official Image Showing Protagonist Delsin Rowe

When you play inFamous: Second Son, you really have the feeling that the team behind the game wanted to go above and beyond to create a real superhero atmosphere. The focus of the game revolves around the main character, Delsin, absorbing different elements that allow him to shapeshift into things like neon lights, concrete, digital signals, or even fire. This makes it really easy to manipulate enemies and move around throughout the map, at the same time, while making you feel so sleek that you can never be caught or killed.

On the flip side, you don't have that big of an almighty feeling, as you need to utilize many skills in order to be uncatchable. Also, the open world is limited to the alternate-reality version of Seattle, Washington, and you can't go beyond the city.

5 Prototype 2

Unstoppable Force Packed in One Man's Body

Mercer prepares to fight Heller in Prototype 2

Prototype 2 is set in a virus-infested New York City, where the protagonist has actually benefited from the dangerous virus, gaining plenty of powers. Even though the open world is limited to their version of New York City, the game does really give you that sense of freedom of movement from the beginning, where you can jump and fly around seamlessly through the city while massacring enemies with an array of abilities you have.

The abilities that the main character uses in these games can remind you of the ones Venom from Spider-Man uses. You can summon creatures, jump on top of vehicles and enemies while killing them in dozens of different creative ways. There are plenty of destructible elements around, and you can even use some of them for combat, like grabbing a machine gun from a tank to use it.

The games definitely give you that superhero power trip as you progress, as you can slice tanks and helicopters, but still, you can be easily killed by certain types of enemies if you're not careful, so it can't really be ranked higher.

4 No Man's Sky

Universe Too Big To Handle

No Man's Sky player

A real intergalactic superhero vibe can certainly be drawn from No Man's Sky, a game that lets you explore space and visit, as the Wall Street Journal explains, 18 quintillion planets. The base game revolves around survival (environmental hazards), fighting (space battles and planet skirmishes), and trading. However, the real superhero fun lies in the creative mode that gives you unlimited money and other resources, which is ideal to instantly customize and build the ship to your liking and explore the massive universe.

The sheer scale of the game is amazing, and its procedurally and algorithmically generated planets that you can influence really give you a feeling of moving around through an endless universe. No wonder it's one of those games that you simply can't put down. Something only a superhero could do. But the lack of might that allows you to control everything means this game can't go higher on this list.

3 Middle-earth: Shadow of War

Warrior, General, Superhero

The Lord of the Rings Middle-Earth Shadow of War Talian

The developers of Middle-earth: Shadow of War really had a special thing in mind when they made this game and its prequel. Before everything else, it is marked by a one-of-a-kind nemesis system that creates a procedurally generated hierarchy of enemies who remember interactions with you. As a part of this system that was even patented by Warner Brothers, you have the ability to dominate some of the foes and control armies of your own orcs.

Marching around Mordor and controlling its political landscape as a sort of overseer is just one part of the experience. Different skills and your own skillful play that you acquire after a while, give you a chance to perfect fighting so much that you dominate enemy after enemy without them having a chance to defend themselves. This way, it doesn't only seem that you're stronger than a regular orc or a captain, but that you are on a totally new, superhero level, compared to them.

2 Minecraft

Building a World Block by Block

Minecraft Official Image of Bedrock Edition Showing Characters Running on Green Blocks

Minecraft is one of the most popular survival action-adventure games out there, and for a reason. It includes various game modes for everyone's taste, but the superhero experience is reserved for creative mode, where you can freely fly around the world, instantly create blocks, and basically design the whole environment, making it one of the coziest experiences out there.

Creative mode is most often used to test game mechanics, build megastructures, and create custom adventure maps for others to play. It was intentionally created so that you can skip worrying about all the things mortals worry about, like survival, and focus on being the creator.

1 Megaton Rainfall

Superhero Experience on Steroids

Megaton Rainfall Official Image Showing Protagonist Flying Towards Alien Ships

Megaton Rainfall's gameplay is something I can't really compare to that of many other games. The premise is simple: you are in the shoes of an almighty character that needs to save the world from an alien invasion while trying to keep the civilian casualties to a minimum. Actually, the only way you can fail missions is if the civilian casualty is too high, as there is no option for the aliens to kill you. Still, while you're defending the world from alien attacks, you need to make sure you protect it from your own attack as well, since you are so enormously powerful that you can bring big devastation to the civilians as well if you're not careful.

The sheer invincible status and the fact that you can easily travel from the streets of Dubai to outer space in seconds create a powerful feeling, a super-powerful one if you'd like. On top of that, with time, you gain access to more powerful attacks and things like Super-Luminal Flight, which lets you travel between galaxies. So, if this game doesn't scream "superhero," I don't know what game does!
