Aside from writing about her favorite video games on DualShockers, Shayna has taught English in Japan, and currently works as a ghostwriter, copywriter, and editor in the publishing industry. Her hope is that the incredible stories told through video games will be recognized as literary, just as much as traditional storytelling mediums.
2026 has already been a great year for cozy games, but there are so many more just around the corner that it's likely to be the genre's best year yet. There's a wide variety in the types of cozy games lined up alongside the usual farming and life sims, some with magic and others more mundane.

12 Best Cozy Games with Lots of Collectibles
Cozy games are great, but cozy games with endless things to collect? Even better. From feathers to fish, these are the ultimate collection-heavy games
Sinking an hour or two into a cozy game is one of the best ways to unwind, and all of these games promise to do just that. There's such a variety in the art styles, concepts, and settings that not one looks alike to another. For a genre where many of the games are effectively based on the same gameplay loops, it's amazing to see the creativity of the developers on display here.
10 Deer & Boy
A Wholesome Platformer
Deer & Boy is a silent platformer about a boy and a deer who travel together. Honestly, its trailer blew me away with its visuals and wholesome concept, and I feel like it's the kind of game that will make me cry. The deer grows up as you progress through the game, and forms a bond with the boy by traversing trials and solving puzzles together.
As a platformer, Deer & Boy is different from the other games on this list, but it's absolutely a cozy game. It has the kind of wholesome vibes and warmth that many cozy gamers value. Deer & Boy has a tentative release date of 2026, likely towards the end of the year.
9 Outbound
Hit the Road
Outbound is an upcoming exploration cozy game funded from Kickstarter that emphasizes customization and eco-tech. Your vehicle is a solar-powered camper van with a dizzying amount of customization options. You can turn your van into a matryoshka doll of customization, with practically an entire home unfolding on the roof and sides of the van.
The emphasis on nature and minimal eco-footprint is refreshing and signals a new trend in cozy games that embrace environmentally friendly narratives. I find this a welcome reprieve from seeing pollution and news about climate change, and the thought of retreating to a world where I can live in harmony with nature is a hopeful one.
8 Animula Nook
See the World Differently
The big worlds in Arriety and The Borrowers give a very different perspective of everyday homes. Animula Nook runs with this concept, turning an ordinary space into a world of its own. You're shrunk down into a tiny version of yourself, where the everyday items found around the house become your forageables and materials.
Animula Nook gives you full control over creating a tiny house, with tons of creative customization options. Exploration is fun and novel, with your new perspective making even normal objects a novelty. Animula Nook doesn't have a release date yet, but is likely to be released at the end of 2026.
7 Humblets
A Cozy Camper Retreat

HypeTrain Digital |

Adventure |
|
TBD |
Humblets puts a cozy spin on the survival genre. Set in a world with charming aesthetics and design, Humblets is all about exploration and survival without the stakes, just warm summer camp vibes. You play as a humblet, a small creature akin to a cute brownie or hobbit. You can customize your humblet however you like, including clothing and fantasy options like horns and pointed ears.
Humblets will be a co-op game with up to four players, letting you explore the world and gather resources with your friends. It looks to be a low-stakes exploration game, perfect for unwinding with friends or on your own. I'm a big fan of The Lord of the Rings and while Humblets isn't a LotR property, it feels close enough to a hobbit exploration game that I'm sold.
6 Moonlight Peaks
One for the Gothic Horror Girlies
Moonlight Peaks is another farming sim, but this one has a supernatural theme. You play as a vampire, and can befriend the town's residents, which include werewolves, mermaids, witches, and other vampires.
The setting is distinct from other farming sims because of its gothic-horror-meets-Hello-Kitty aesthetic. You get vampiric powers that help you get around and make the usual farming sim chores easier as you improve, floating watering cans included. You also get to decorate your own vampire lair, with adorable decoration and customization options. You won't have to wait long for this one as it has a definitive release date of June 7, 2026.
5 Paralives
A Cozy Life Sim
Touted as one of the first competitors to The Sims franchise, Paralives has been in development for years now. It was supposed to be released in early access in December last year, but this got pushed back to May 2026.
People have been excited about Paralives for years because of the challenge it poses to The Sims 4's dominance. Competition can push developers to be more creative, and competitors to The Sims 4 is needed now more than ever because of the EA buyout to Saudi Arabia and rumors that there will be no more expansion packs. Its unique art style and building tools define it apart from The Sims 4, and will hopefully make the life sim space more diverse.
4 Loftia
Islands in the Sky

PC, Mac, Nintendo Switch |

Qloud Games |

Casual |
|
TBD |
Loftia is a solarpunk MMO that lets you travel between islands that float in the sky. Its emphasis on green energy and eco-technology is a natural fit for farming games. Loftia takes this further and offers creative solutions for the islands' unique challenges, like transportation between islands and optimizing crop production and benefits using science while still remaining eco-friendly.
Loftia will be a free-to-play MMO, so you can play as a part of a real community and with friends. It just had a successful closed beta with positive reviews from beta players, and is well on track for a 2026 release.
3 My Time at Evershine
The Latest in a Line of Successes
My Time at Portia and My Time at Sandrock have both been big hits in the cozy game space. Set in a post-apocalyptic world, the My Time At... series has found an odd niche spot and excels at it.

You'd think that a post-apocalyptic world would be more dour, but My Time at Portia and My Time at Sandrock are devastatingly charming. There's a real sense of community, and a big draw of the setting is the diversity of each game in terms of landscapes, setting challenges, and story. My Time at Evershine will go in a different direction, set in a more European-inspired world with an emphasis on its RPG and settlement mechanics.
2 Fields of Mistria
A Magical World with a Story
Fields of Mistria has been in early access for a couple of years, but its next update has promised to be the full release and should arrive in a few months. Set in the charming village of Mistria, Fields of Mistria's real strength is in its characters. There are a lot of group interactions to listen in on and even participate in, which goes a long way in making Mistria feel alive.
The art style is inspired by shoujo anime from the '90s, and it makes for gorgeous visuals. It has a robust crafting system alongside cooking, farming, ranching, and mining. I've spent hundreds of hours in Fields of Mistria in early access alone, and I'm still excited to see what the game in its entirety will have to offer.
1 Witchbrook
It's Been Ten Years
Players have been waiting for Witchbrook since it was announced ten years ago, but 2026 seems to be the tentative release date. Witchbrook is a life-simulation game where you play as the town's newest witch, go to magic school to learn new spells and potions, and build a life in the town of Mossport.
The artwork is stunning and detailed, and the world looks genuinely alive in the trailers. For those who want to avoid other magical school games, Witchbrook will be the perfect place to spend hundreds of hours learning magic and befriending unique characters.
