Melissa Sarnowski has been a game writer for over two years. While she's willing to dig into any game for an article, she heavily focuses on The Legend of Zelda, Resident Evil, Final Fantasy, and The Sims content, having played games from each franchise since she was a child.

Pragmata is quickly winning over hearts with its space setting and leading duo. However, all games come to an end eventually, and that tends to leave a void behind as you reach a conclusion, but you aren't yet ready to give the game another playthrough so soon after the first. In that case, you likely want games that have some form of similarity to Pragmata.

Pragmata Review

In space, no one can hear you make a dad joke.

Diana and Hugh are a duo that is difficult to move on from, but there are some other games with a similar dynamic if that's what you're looking for. Otherwise, you can find several other games that have a desolate feeling world or androids with feelings.

10 Death Stranding

A Game That Defies Normal Genres

Death Stranding Sam

Like Pragmata, Death Stranding isn't easy to place in an existing category of games, as it's a unique blend of horror, shooter, resource management, and walking simulator. While the world isn't in space like Pragmata, Death Stranding has a post-apocalyptic setting that focuses on the bridge between life and death.

However, part of why Death Stranding is a good follow-up game is because of Lou, the Bridge Baby that your main character adopts and forms a connection with. If you aren't ready to give up being a virtual father just yet, following Pragmata, then you can start life as Sam and adopt Lou.

9 Returnal

For Sci-fi Shooter Fans

returnal gameplay

If you're looking for a game after Pragmata that focuses more on the sci-fi and shooter elements, then Returnal is a great choice. This game is heavy on third-person shooter elements, tipping into bullet hell territory, and includes psychological horror, setting it apart from Pragmata in crucial ways.

Returnal follows the story of Selene, a pilot who ends up stranded on an alien planet. As if that's not bad enough, she also gets trapped in a time loop.

Every time she dies, Selene is sent back to the beginning and sees more visions of what seem to be her memories. The plot is intriguing, and it leaves you questioning what's going on and who Selene really is.

8 Control

Jesse's Foe Is Similar to Hugh and Diana's

Control

Hugh and Diana face an AI in Pragmata, and Jesse in Control faces an entity known as the Hiss that acts kind of like an AI controlling others. Although she's human and has different abilities, Jesse's skill set for the events in Control gives you a similar feeling to Diana's skill set and how suited it is for her particular journey with Hugh.

Control follows Jesse, who is searching for her missing brother in a world that's filled with entities that have inhuman abilities. Jesse is able to acquire abilities through her journey using Objects of Power, making her stronger as she progresses.

During her journey, Jesse learns about the Hiss and how it's impacted the Federal Bureau of Control, meant to contain such threats, leading to bigger issues than a missing family member.

7 Dead Space

For Players Who Want More Eerie Space Exploration

Dead Space Remake

Dead Space is an action-horror game that takes place on a spaceship, which gives its world a feeling similar to the abandoned base that Hugh and Diana explore in Pragmata. Unlike Hugh and Diana, Isaac is more focused on his own survival than on uncovering the mysteries of the ship, which is entirely reasonable in his situation.

The first two Dead Space games are rather similar, but in the first one, Isaac is searching for somebody, so it has an overall closer feeling to Pragmata. However, it's definitely worth playing both of them if you enjoy shooters in space, because they're both solid games in both the horror and action genres.

6 Bioshock 2

Being a Big Daddy Is Like Being Hugh

Upcoming Games So Ambitious They May Never Actually Release Bioshock 4

If you want to explore an eerie location and be the virtual father to not-entirely-human daughters, then Bioshock 2 is the perfect game for you. Instead of space, this game is set underwater in Rapture, a city that was focused on progress to the point of not having regulations on research or business, which led to a rather swift downfall.

Want to get started in the survival horror sphere? These games are great for beginners to the genre.

Bioshock 2 puts you in the role of a Big Daddy, which are entities who are tasked with protecting Little Sisters as they collect ADAM, and after it's collected, as they are prime targets for Splicers. While you'll interact with and help multiple Little Sisters throughout the game, the plot is focused on finding your original Little Sister, whose name is Eleanor Lamb.

5 Detroit: Become Human

Explore the Lives of Androids

 Become Human.

If Pragmata left you wanting more RPG content with androids that blur what you think is human and what's artificial, then Detroit: Become Human would be a great option for your next game. In this world, both humans and androids are common, but androids are killed on sight if they manage to bypass their programming to develop sentience.

However, Markus isn't fully killed after he gains sentience, and he wakes up to try to rally other androids to fight for more rights, or in other words, the right to be sentient. The game is more focused on the story than any other element, but it explores a common theme in sci-fi media about androids and what it means if they're sentient like humans.

4 Vanquish

A Game with Similar Styles

Vanquish, Sam jumping over an obstacle, while wearing his suit

While Vanquish doesn't have much in common with Pragmata in terms of story, it has a similar style visually and is also a third-person shooter. The game is a bit dated now, having been released in 2010, but the overall gameplay is solid enough that it still holds up today.

This is going to be a good option if you like sci-fi, but you want something with more action to it. Vanquish is set in a world where resources are scarce due to the size of Earth's population, so nations have to fight to get what resources they can. It's fast-paced and full of the feeling of a world that's reaching its end, which is perfect for the sci-fi genre.

3 NieR: Automata

A Story About an Endless War

Nier Automata

NieR: Automata is a good choice for a follow-up game if you want to explore more android-focused content. With more RPG elements than Pragmata and multiple story threads that are told across several characters, you get to experience the reality of a world where androids are in an endless war with machines created by aliens.

NieR looks at heavy themes, such as finding a purpose in life when you're an android made to make a location safe for humanity, but also being unable to truly find your own purpose. The game's story is confusing at times, especially with how many different endings you can get, but it's interesting if you enjoy pondering about androids.

2 The Last of Us

A Bond to Rival Diana and Hugh's

Most Awarded Games of All Time The Last of Us

The Last of Us is the best choice for a follow-up game to Pragmata if you felt that the highlight of the game was the bond between Diana and Hugh. In The Last of Us, you experience a similar bond, but on an Earth that's had a large portion of its population wiped out by a fungal infection.

The Last of Us follows Joel, a smuggler who lost his daughter in the initial fallout and is unwillingly tasked with smuggling a package that turns out to be Ellie. Resistant to the job, Joel accepts it because Ellie might be the answer to the virus, giving humanity a new hope. However, the bond he builds with her along the way makes it difficult to finish the drop-off.

1 Resident Evil: Revelations 2

Another Capcom Hit

Claire running in fromt of Moira

A spinoff from the main Resident Evil series, Resident Evil: Revelations 2 has a feeling similar to Pragmata from both the puzzles you solve and the two duos you alternate between throughout the game. It exchanges the sci-fi elements for horror, but it's definitely worth checking out if you're okay with being a bit scared.

RE:Rev 2 follows Claire and Moira, as well as Barry and Natalia, as they navigate an island filled with people who have succumbed to yet another new virus. While Claire and Moira offer a sisterly feeling, it's Barry and Natalia who mimic the father-daughter bond you have in Pragmata. Plus, Natalia helps Barry get through areas similar to Diana due to her unique abilities to see invisible creatures and creatures through walls.

Finishing a good game is difficult and often depressing, in its own way, as you leave a world you grew to love behind. However, the market is filled with so many games that you can find options that are similar in at least one way to the game you finished, as long as you don't expect it to be an exact replica of a game like Pragmata.
