10 Most Beautiful Locations in Where Winds Meet

2 weeks ago 18

The thing that struck me most about Where Winds Meet was just how idyllic and tranquil everything seemed. Yes, this is a world, war-torn and violent, with trouble lurking around every corner. And yet, somehow all of that tends to vanish as you bask in the warm colours and tranquil views, and just exist in this world.

And on top of it all, it’s important to note that Where Winds Meet is a completely free game. Seeing something this high quality in an F2P title is almost unheard of.

So put down that sword, leave your troubles and desires behind, and let’s take a walk through the most gorgeous places in Where Winds Meet. Perhaps you’ll discover something new about yourself.

10 Peace Bell Tower

The Top of the World

Where Winds Meet Bell Tower

Whenever I play an open-world game, I often make a beeline for the highest point possible. I still have fond memories of diving off the Empire State Building in the original Spider-Man 2. If you know, you know.

So when I discovered the Peace Bell Tower and began my long ascent, I was dazzled by the view at the summit. Here you can gaze wistfully across the whole landscape of Qinghe, or even marvel at the great walled Kaifeng City.

This world is huge and all yours for the taking. So take a leap of faith, and soon you’ll be lost in the world of Where Winds Meet, just like me.

9 Pipa Chasm

Your Own Personal Paradise

Where Winds Meet Pipa Chasm

Have you ever desired some place away from the world, away from prying eyes and the drudgery of the everyday? Have you ever desired a quiet place to sit and simply exist, without pressures, noise, and complications?

Through an accident, I stumbled upon Pipa Chasm, in the far Southwest of Kaifeng, and now it may be one of my favourite places in Where Winds Meet.

A small lake lies at the base of the Chasm, enclosed on all sides by huge cliffs and cascading waterfalls. A small shrine stands upon a small island in the centre, and as the sun breaks through, the world turns to amber and gold.

Whether you’re floating in the peaceful waters below or sitting upon the spindly rope bridge above, Pipa Chasm is a place of tranquillity.

8 Fairgrounds

I Hope You Brought Your Wallet

Where Winds Meet Fairgrounds

Kaifeng City is pretty overwhelming when you first arrive. You’ve been used to the vast open plains and rugged mountains of Qinghe, where the streams flow freely, and the music drifts through the breeze.

However, this city is huge and bustling, with merchants and traders selling, poets scribbling, and endless chatter. Yet at night, with the lights all aflame, something beautiful stirs as the Fairgrounds come to life, and the air is filled with excitement. This sculpted tower lights up the night like some great beacon of civilisation, and the world comes alive once more.

7 Flower Expanse

Pollen Count... High!

Where Winds Meet Flower Expanse

There’s little more relaxing than lying down in a field of flowers, and drinking in the long Summer days. And honestly, chances are you’ve never seen a field quite like this.

The Flower expanse can be found a short while north of The Blissful Retreat. You’ll spot it immediately, the huge sprawl of gorgeous violet flowers carpeting the ground as far as the eye can see.

Where Winds Meet Oddity Feature

Again, there’s not a huge amount to do here, save for some butterfly activities and oddity events, but that's not the point. Pick your best outfit and get that camera clicking for some timeless photos!

6 Crimson Cliff

The World in Autumn Colours

Where Winds Meet Crimson Cliff

This location was one of the first places I encountered during my Journey across Qinghe. While I do enjoy following the story most of the time, there are occasions where I’ll just run about completing side quests, and collecting bits and bobs.

Luckily, this little mini-adventure took me to one of the most beautiful places in the game. As soon as I saw the bright red leaves scattered across the ground, I was hooked. While there isn’t much to do at the top of this cliff, the view is reward enough.

As soon as you’re able to build houses in this game… well, it would be difficult to find a more cosy location.

5 Jadewood Court

The Style of High Society

Where Winds Meet Jadewood Court

Have you had the fortune of chancing upon the Jadewood Court on your travels? If not, then I urge you to go, if not for the people, then for the bountiful gardens.

The Jadewood Court can be found in Kaifeng, southwest of the main City, and this is a real treat for the eyes. If you’ve ever been to a botanical garden before, then this place might seem familiar.

[...] I urge you to go, if not for the people, then for the bountiful gardens.

Between the main buildings and towering pagodas lies an enchanting rock garden, where the budding white trees offer shade from the sun.

Waterfalls tumble down the mountains, filtering into streams that trickle through the rocks and wend their way onward into the wide world. People relax on the bridge, and you, too, may find yourself lost in thought, as the world passes by.

4 Bamboo Abode

Humble Beginnings

Where Winds Meet Bamboo

How could I complete this list without mentioning the place where it all started? It’s funny, I hadn’t actually gone back to this location since I started Where Winds Meet.

Perhaps it didn’t dawn on me back then, but now, I’ve come to see the world a little differently. I’m not chasing storylines or rushing to combat terrible foes, but instead enjoying the worldbuilding and slower pace of a world full of life.

The little rundown cabin sits overgrown with moss, reclaimed by the world, the quiet trickle of the nearby stream, and the bamboo providing a soothing sanctuary, away from the chaos of the outside world.

It feels as though this abode was untouched by time, untouched by the human hand, a retreat for nature, and for healing.

3 Ghost Market

Where The Spirits Gather

Where Winds Meet Ghost Market

While beauty might not be the first thing that pops into your head when you see the Night Market for the first time, I would argue that this is one of the most intriguing and mystical places in the whole game.

You can find this haunting place by completing the Bounty Trouble Quest in Qinghe, or by heading over to the coffin shop in southeast Kaifeng City.

I love the spooky vibe this place has, with the folks and their masks and the haunting red lanterns hanging from the tall city gates.

The shops are opening, vending their secretive supplies, recipes, and tomes, while the music drones in the background. It’s certainly a different kind of beauty, but one that helps flesh the world out and adds intrigue to its inhabitants.

2 Velvet Shade

Of Gold, Silk, and Riches Untold...

Where Winds Meet Kaifeng Hall

Of course, if you thought Kaifeng City was beautiful at night, little can compare to the sights available during the day.

If you’ve played through the main story, you’ll be very familiar with Revelry Hall and the beautiful scenery surrounding it. In fact, there's even a checklist of charming viewpoints surrounding this area that you can access via the map screen.

Very little can compare to the lush flowers, blossoming trees, and calm, glass-like water.

It is a place of quiet contemplation, relaxation, and blooming creativity. And that’s before even appreciating the architecture itself, which is a colourful marvel of engineering. So drink in the view, and don’t take it for granted.

1 Qingye’s Arena

The Edge of the World

Where Winds Meet Qingye Arena

This was one that I wasn’t quite sure to include, but on reflection, I can’t help but put it here in 1st place. While this may not be a permanent location, or even a real one, for that matter, every player has this gorgeous view stuck in their mind.

When you enter the 2nd phase of the fight against Qingye, it’s a rather jaw-dropping experience. Endless pillars rise from the water below, creating a mesmerising effect as the reflections create a whole new world around you.

The bright moon haunts the background, as you find yourself hopelessly outwitted and outmatched by a foe far more powerful than yourself. And yet, as the stage twists and revolves around you, somehow, against all odds, you prevail and emerge from this mirror-dream victorious.

It’s a brilliant, intense fight in an arena that defies belief, rivalling anything From Software has to offer. They cooked with this one, that’s for sure.
