Bloodborne is the most unique Soulsborne game that FromSoftware has released, and now JackSepticEye is collaborating with Sony through his production company to adapt the game into an R-rated animated film. JackSepticEye isn't the first YouTuber to turn a game they love into a film, as Markiplier also undertook the task recently, releasing his own film, Iron Lung, at the start of 2026.

Ten Years Later, Bloodborne's Grim And Twisted Yharnam Feels Like Home

Bloodborne is ten years old, and lots of veteran players are still coming back to Yharnam.

I feel confident that JackSepticEye, who plays and appreciates video games and how they can be an art form, will be able to do justice to the complex world of Bloodborne and its disturbing lore. With so many plot threads available to explore in his film, some stand out as being more crucial or interesting than others in the world of Bloodborne. Here's what would be fun to see explored.

10 Laurence

The Beginning of Yharnam's Blood Problem

Bloodborne Laurence, The First Vicar resting on his throne.

Laurence was the first Vicar, and he was the one inspired by the discovery of the old blood, believing that it was of a divine nature and could be used to transcend humanity. Willem tried to warn Laurence that the old blood was dangerous, and Laurence essentially ignored him, choosing to go to Yharnam with a bunch of other scholars to spread the healing of the old blood.

Because Laurence founded the Healing Church and played a crucial role in starting the events that you then witness in-game, it feels like he needs to be included in the film. His role in starting the events that led to Yharnam's downfall is too important to overlook.

9 The Fishing Hamlet

The Origin of the Hunters' Curse

Orphan Of Kos from Bloodborne

In many ways, the Fishing Hamlet was a pivotal event in the history of the Hunters. The villagers who lived in the hamlet were changed after Kos washed ashore. Kos, at that time, was already dead, but she was carrying a fetus and numerous parasites that could be attributed to the villagers' changes, and likely used as a food source by them.

The changes in the villagers led to scholars and Hunters arriving to investigate. While they could have helped the villagers, they instead chose to dissect Kos and the villagers for knowledge, and then steal the fetus, which would later be the Orphan of Kos boss you face. This is believed to be the source of the curse placed on Hunters.

8 Ludwig

A Pivotal Hero Turned Into a Fearsome Beast

Bloodborne Old Hunters DLC Ludwig Boss Fight

Ludwig was associated with the Healing Church as a Hunter, but he took his duty to the next level and spent his time training others to be Hunters against the beasts. Because he taught those who were willing to fight, he ended up uniting the population against a common enemy.

Like many others, Ludwig would eventually give into his bloodlust and become a beast that killed Hunters and other beasts indiscriminately. However, Ludwig's descent is particularly interesting, because he had a blade that appeared to be sentient and allowed him to communicate with the cosmos, and that seemed to play a role in his fate.

7 Gehrman

The First Hunter Should Be In the Film

Gehrman in a wheelchair (Bloodborne)

Gehrman was one of the first people to notice the outbreak of the beast scourge, and he responded by becoming the first Hunter. In addition to being a proficient combatant, Gehrman proved himself to be an instructor and inventor, as he taught others to hunt beasts and worked on making tools to help them.

Throughout the game, Gehrman gives you access to his workshop and tools to help you grow stronger, letting you face more fearsome creatures. Considering his role as a mentor to the player, it feels necessary to have him in the film, even if he's just a background character for it.

6 The Hunter's Dream

Gehrman's Assurance that There Will Always Be Hunters

Bloodborne Hunter's Dream

Gehrman was aware of the fact that he wouldn't be able to hunt beasts and train Hunters himself. He's not immortal. However, he found a way to defy mortality with the creation of the Hunter's Dream. Although it's modeled after his original workshop, the location in the Dream is not real.

The Hunter's Dream is basically your safe hub throughout Bloodborne, but it also lets you upgrade your character and gear. Because of its importance for both gameplay and lore, it should be a necessary part of the film, assuming that the film will be set after its creation.

5 Eileen

The Hunter Who Hunts Hunters

The back of Eileen the Crow (Bloodborne)

Eileen has a unique role in the world of Bloodborne. The nature of being a Hunter leads to many Hunters going mad from their use of blood, and a Hunter who's gone mad is a danger to everybody around them rather than the protector they're meant to be for the people who can't or won't fight against the beast scourge.

Eileen is a Hunter who kills the Hunters who have gone mad, limiting the damage they can do to the innocent. While her role in the world would be easy to skip over in the movie, it's an interesting piece of how hunting works and its risks, making it a worthwhile plot thread to explore.

4 Rom

The Barrier's Last Defense

Bloodborne Rom The Vacuous Spider

When you defeat Rom in Bloodborne, the in-game world shifts in noticeable ways. You gain the ability to see the reality of the world around you that was previously hidden, such as the Red Moon and the presence of the Lesser Amygdala.

Whether it was an act of kindness or necessity, Rom controlled the barrier that shielded people from seeing the reality of the surrounding horrors, and killing Rom broke that barrier. Because killing Rom signals a shift in the game, it feels like it would be an important aspect to explore in the film, especially if it goes into the purpose of the barrier in the first place.

3 The Healing Church

The Center of Most Problems

Bloodborne Vicar Amelia Praying

Founded by Laurence, the Healing Church became the organization that performed Blood Ministrations using the old blood in order to heal people. Unfortunately, the blood was addicting, so those who were healed through Blood Ministration would end up addicted to the old blood.

Don't worry about defense, because if you don't act first, your enemy will.

Despite playing a role in the beginning of the beast scourge, the Healing Church would turn into an organization that produced many Hunters who would fight against the scourge, although the church wouldn't be officially affiliated with the Hunters. The Healing Church plays such a core role in the use of old blood that it would be strange to not include it in the film.

2 Queen Yharnam

Her Story Could Be Its Own Movie

Bloodborne Queen Yharnam Fight

Yharnam is the Pthumerian Queen who ended up pregnant when the Old Ones descended, which would later be the child, Mergo. She's important enough in the world of Bloodborne that the city of Yharnam was named after her. However, her life took a horrific turn when the Old Ones descended, and she ended up being "blessed" to give birth to a new Great One.

Yharnam's outfit does a lot of work to tell her story. When you meet her, her hands are bound and there's blood staining the front of her dress. It's likely that becoming pregnant with a Great One essentially put Yharnam in a state of captivity to ensure that Mergo would be born, and then handed off to Mergo's Wet Nurse as Yharnam's role would be over, and she'd no longer be needed.

1 Lady Maria

Maria Spends Her Death Guarding the Hamlet

Bloodborne Lady Maria waiting in the Astral Clocktower, sitting in throne-like chair.

Lady Maria was one of the first Hunters and trained under Gehrman. However, she was also a member of the group that investigated the Fishing Hamlet. While the details are implied as to what happened there, Maria was haunted enough by her role that she took her own life and would insist that the dead should be left alone when you face her in the Astral Clocktower.

Lady Maria is a fascinating character, and she wanted to rely on skill more than the ability of her blood as somebody from Cainhurst. She's a character who could have an entire movie centered around her story, and I certainly wouldn't complain about seeing that. Still, if the film looks at the early days of the Hunters rather than the period you experience as a player, then Maria would be an important character to include.

There's so much lore packed into every Soulsborne game that each one could be made into a full TV series. While we'll have to settle for a movie adaptation for now, it's a comfort that somebody who plays games is at the head of the production company creating the Bloodborne film, because it's more likely they'll be faithful to the original work.
