10 PS4 Games That Looks Best With PS5 Pro Enhancements

1 week ago 6

Both the PlayStation 5 and its latter Pro model have proven why their cutting-edge technology is a breakthrough for next-gen games and their developers. Don't worry, this isn't me glazing the console; you can freely make fun of the no first-party games debate on it.

However, with the release of the PS5 Pro, we received an updated version of the PS4 Games Boost option from the base model, called the Enhanced Image Quality setting in the display tab. And you'd be a little surprised to learn how this setting can tremendously boost the resolution and image quality of various PS4 games, though with some slight caveats.

10 Games That Justify Buying A PS5 Pro

Maybe it's not a worthless upgrade after all.

Stick around, because I've cooked up a personalized list of PS4 games that will surely be worth replaying or checking out on a whim with the PS5 Pro's Image Enhancement option.

10 Driveclub

A Racing Game That Felt Ahead of Its Time

driveclub ps4

Unlike some masses online who recently backpedaled to realize this game's underrated potential, I was lucky enough to have played Driveclub during launch on the PS4. See, back when it launched, Driveclub already had a strong visual identity.

It was one of the few racing games at the time that truly embraced realism and created an immersive atmosphere. The problem was that, on the base PS4 model, that kind of immersion didn’t always come through cleanly. You’d notice softer edges, some blur, and the occasional roughness in detail.

If you’re booting up your PS5 Pro and looking for something to showcase that Image Enhancement feature, Driveclub is a surprisingly perfect pick, thanks to the overall improvement in image quality. Almost enough that driving in a rainstorm will give you a greater sense of immersion than Forza or NFS could have with their modern releases.

9 God of War (2018)

Just Your Wholesome Father-Son Bonding Journey

God of War

Santa Monica truly made its mark on the gaming landscape when it unveiled God of War 2018 for the PS4. Like seriously, that E3 stage reveal is still one of the most iconic moments in the entire industry.

On the PS5 Pro, God of War (2018) really shines thanks to Game Boost, providing a smooth 4K resolution with a locked 60FPS framerate that’s noticeably sharper, cleaner, and more detailed compared to the standard PS5 version.

If you're looking to replay or just take a short spin with Kratos and Atreus in tow, the Pro enhances texture clarity and reduces visual noise, giving you the most stable, high-fidelity experience for this soft reboot.

8 Metro Exodus

Like a Flickering Light in the Darkness

metro exodus

Metro Exodus is a survival FPS that truly tests your tooth-and-nail instincts through its gameplay, but make no mistake: the whole series has always had a beloved fanbase that adores its overarching story and characters, especially since the OG novels.

Now here's the kicker: on the PS4, Exodus looked hazy and often smeared, with frequent dips in resolution. Thankfully, that got resolved with the PS5 version soon after, but again, it wasn't smooth sailing. Well, thankfully, the PS5 Pro's image enhancement feature drastically improves these issues across the board.

You’ll notice less blur, clearer textures, and a more stable overall picture, especially if you’re playing on a larger 4K display. The game already uses a dynamic day-night cycle and some impressive global illumination. Ironing out those details makes this a worthwhile game, not only to experience on the PS5 Pro but also to use the PS4 port for a better overall experience.

7 Ratchet & Clank (2016)

A Fun Revisit for All Ages

ratchet and clank

Insomniac's 2016 modern reimagining of Ratchet & Clankmade it seem like the perfect playable Pixar movie video game. On PS4, the image could look a little soft at times, especially in busy scenes with lots of particles, explosions, or worlds that you'd visit.

Let me be crystal clear that the PS5 Pro hardly makes any difference here, but this game still deserves a mention, mainly because of the PS5 patch it received a while ago.

Console might've moved on to the next gen, but time hasn't made these games any less enjoyable.

If you're one of those people like me who put it on the back burner on launch, then this is the perfect time to replay it or go for the Platinum Trophy. It’s light, funny, and easy to pick up, making it perfect for anyone who doesn't have access to the original PS2 game.

6 Infamous First Light

Let's Play a Game of Fetch

Infamous first light PS4

The OG Infamous games were easily among the best titles the PS3 had to offer. With the modern iterations of both Infamous Second Son and First Light, we got treated to another double dose of power-slinging mayhem for the PS4.

And for this list, we're picking Infamous First Light, mainly because of how this game stood out just by an edge due to its strong visual identity via Fetch's Neon powers. Now, the game obviously looks clean even on a base PS5, but with the Pro's enhancements, it closes the gap enough that it feels less “last-gen,” if that makes sense.

It won’t reinvent itself on the PS5 Pro, but it absolutely feels cleaner, sharper, and more alive in motion.

5 NieR: Automata

For the Glory of Mankind

NieR Automata 2B and 9S

Don't worry, good ol' Yoko Taro-san didn't slip any funds under the table to feature this one because Nier: Automata genuinely receives an uplift on the PS5 Pro thanks to the Image Enhancement setting.

On PS4, the finer details like 2B, 9S, and A2's models can look a little jagged or muddy, especially during combat. The PS5 Pro can sharpen everything just enough, making models and the overall environments, like the city ruins and foliage, feel more defined without affecting the game's art style or melancholic tone.

It’s not a dramatic “remaster-level” upgrade, but that’s kind of the point, because this game never really needed one besides a touch-up to the framerate or image quality, which is easily noticeable here.

4 Concrete Genie

Let Your Imagination Run Wild

CONCRETE GENIE ps4 pIXELOPUS

One of the most criminally underrated games that I got to play in February 2021 via PS Plus was Concrete Genie. This was right before the following months, when I upgraded to a base PS5. And if you're not at all familiar with this title, all you need to know is that it is a short, sweet, and wonderful indie game that uses the PS4/PS5 controller's touch pad to paint things.

The creative painting system is the heart of Concrete Genie. But this time, thanks to the PS5 Pro's image quality-boosting feature, the outlines of Ash's Genie creations, the edges of buildings, and the glowing effects all benefit from the higher clarity.

It’s the same heartfelt experience that PixelOpus intended and delivered back on launch. While the studio has been closed since then, you have the chance to witness how much unadulterated passion they put into this game if you own a PS5 or even a PS5 Pro.

3 Assassin's Creed Origins

Bayek of Siwa, Remember the Name

assassin's creed Origins Pyramid

First off, Assassin's Creed Origins was already a beautiful game on the PS4. And dare I say, it was the perfect RPG Assassin's Creed game before Ubisoft decided to double down on the latter entries, making them a mess to play.

Ancient Egypt isn’t just another historical backdrop; here, it’s the star of the show in your pursuit of avenging Bayek's son. Furthermore, the AC Origins received a 60FPS patch back in 2022. And if you're playing on the PS5 Pro, you'll get a slight visual boost when using the Image Enhancement toggle.

What really seals it for Origins is its slower, more atmospheric placement within the Assassin’s Creed universe. Since it has a more character-based story, and if you manage to get your hands on the Gold Edition, both the Hidden Ones and Curse of the Pharaoh DLCs are absolutely worth it for hardcore fans of the franchise.

2 Final Fantasy XV

Not as Bad as Everyone Made It

10 Highly Reviewed JRPGs That Would Flop Today - Final Fantasy 15

In my defense, Final Fantasy 15 was one of my first JRPG experiences on the PS4. Point out all the flaws that you'd want with the game, but I'll still happily adore it and even do a third playthrough. And that's exactly why I chose it, just in case some people might consider giving it a fair shot, especially with all the previous updates and post-launch content it received with the Royal Edition.

While it might not be the most technically perfect game from the PS4 era, FFXV is exactly the kind of game that gets a second life from the PS5 Pro’s image enhancement because it fixes the one thing that used to hold its visuals back: clarity.

It already supports backward compatibility and runs smoothly at 60FPS on the base PS5. However, with the Pro's slightly better performance, the game feels noticeably sharper. The world of Eos, especially those endless highways and vast deserts, finally looks as clear as it always should have with the (underutilized) Luminous engine.

1 Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice

Hesitation is Defeat

Sekiro Shadows Die Twice

A game I (personally) consider FromSoftware's magnum opus. Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is built on precision parries, posture breaks, and split-second reactions, so when I saw that it received a framerate boost on the PS5, you just knew I had to run it back again.

However, despite the frame rate stability, the game still had a clearly noticeable blur and jagged anti-aliasing, the latter of which is present in most of the aforementioned PS4 titles on this list. The PS5 Pro’s image enhancement tightens it all up.

Edges look cleaner, distant textures pop more, and the overall image just feels more stable. It’s the kind of upgrade you notice less in screenshots or video comparisons and more when you’re actually playing the game. And for a game as mechanically demanding and visually intense as Sekiro, that refinement goes a long way, trust me.
