However, not all Star Wars games are created equal, and some leave a lot to be desired, whether it is regarding game mechanics or even the narrative.

Luckily, there's also another side of the coin, and there are titles in this universe that offer nearly infinite possibilities and a compelling story that not only feels cinematic, but also extremely immersive. Here are some Star Wars games that make you feel like you're living in them.

10 Star Wars: Bounty Hunter

A Deeper Look Into Jango Fett's Exploits

I remember the feeling of playing Star Wars: Bounty Hunter back in the day. I was much more used to fighting enemies with a lightsaber and The Force than with a blaster, so it was a refreshing experience. The GameCube had way too many great titles, and I can say without a shadow of a doubt, that this is one of them.

While I wish the game was a little longer, I wouldn't write it down as a complaint per se. I wish we could get a remake, as more modern graphics could definitely make it even more immersive.

9 Star Wars: Episode 3 - Revenge of the Sith

A Controversial Rendition of the End of the Prequel Trilogy

I was one of those kids who were born too late to watch the original trilogy in the movie theater, but just in time to experience the cinematic rebirth of the franchise with the prequel trilogy. Star Wars: Episode 3 — Revenge of the Sith is, in my opinion, the best movie of the lot. However, the same cannot be said about the game that was made based on it.

Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love this title, but I can also admit that the combat mechanics seemed a bit limited, even for its time. That said, the alternate ending and the level with the invasion of the Jedi Temple are some of my favorite parts of the game and I always felt like I was living the experience. While Star Wars: Episode 3 — Revenge of the Sith is not one of the Star Wars with the best lightsaber combat, it got a few things right and the multiplayer wasn't too bad.

8 Star Wars: Battlefront (2015)

The Multiplayer Was Very Entertaining

Although some people call this game a joyless cash grab that was trying to revive a successful franchise from a few years back, I must admit that I personally enjoyed it. Sure, it lacked a few things here and there, and it felt empty sometimes, but it delivered on what it promised for the most part, and it was actually fun to play.

Of course, like many other Star Wars fans, I really missed having a campaign that told a story, like it happened with the 501st in Star Wars: Battlefront 2 (2005). But if you focused on the multiplayer aspects of the game and unlocking the best weapons, it's not too shabby, and you could easily spend hours playing it without realizing it.

7 Star Wars: The Force Unleashed

Starkiller Might Not Be Cannon, but He Was Fun to Play as Him

For me, this game revolutionized the universe of Star Wars games, not only thanks to its Havok Engine that produced realistic representations of the damage different materials sustain, but also because it introduced a godlike character we've all come to love.

The story behind Star Wars: The Force Unleashed sits somewhere in the middle of "great" and "okay", at least in my opinion. You definitely bond with Galen Marek, Juno, and even general Rahm Kota during the campaign, but, at the same time, I feel that it lacks a bit of depth and complexity. Starkiller remains one of the best Star Wars game protagonists to have ever been introduced, and it's no surprise that he's never been made cannon, as he'd wipe the floor with everyone.

6 Star Wars: Republic Commando

A Jewel From a Simpler Past

I don't know anyone who, at some point during their childhood, didn't think of hanging up the Jedi robes and role playing as one of the Republic's clones. The Force is great and all, and being taught by Master Yoda must be quite the experience, but at the same time, I always suspected the Jedi felt envious of the camaraderie between the members of the Clone army.

Star Wars: Republic Commando had some weaknesses when it came to its mechanics. There's no denying that. However, it did deliver some fun FPS combat set in a galaxy far, far away. In fact, if we judge it solely based on long-range combat within its franchise, it is probably one of the best Star Wars games of all time.

5 Star Wars: Empire At War

A More Strategic Approach to the Star Wars Universe

While I do enjoy strategy games here and there, I wouldn't say I enjoy them as much as I do those that focus specifically on FPS or RPG mechanics. That said, Star Wars: Empire at War, was the title that actually introduced me to the genre, so I definitely have its developers to thank for it.

For its time, the game wasn't revolutionary, but it did manage to provide a very interesting and immersive experience that I'm sure those who live and breathe for the real-time strategy genre, still appreciate to this day.

4 Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy

One of the Stepping Stones of the Modern Star Wars Experience

While Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy is obviously quite behind in terms of game mechanics and graphics compared to more modern titles, I would say it remains a Star Wars title that feels fresh if you take its age into consideration and judge it with that in mind.

This title came out during the golden era of the 2000s Star Wars games, right between Star Wars: Episode 2 — Attack of the Clones, and Star Wars: Episode 3 — Revenge of the Sith. I say golden era, because I feel that, while the second half of that decade did have great games within the franchise, the first half was definitely stronger. Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy is a game I still play every couple of years, and it's always a blast.

3 Star Wars: Battlefront 2 (2005)

Unit Design and Classes Were Amazing

This particular game has a very special place in my heart, as I remember getting it as a Christmas present. There's just so much amazing stuff around Star Wars: Battlefront 2 (2005). From the first mission in Mygeeto, all the way over to the fall of the Jedi Temple, there's not a single dull moment in the gaming experience.

Not to mention that the narrative of the 501st is handled masterfully, as you get to see the nuances of the Clone army, and how some were not in agreement with a few of the atrocities they were forced to commit.

2 Star Wars Jedi: Survivor

A Strong Sequel to an Already Great Title

When this title's predecessor came out, I was immediately captured by the silky-smooth combat mechanics it had to offer, and I was also very excited to play a fresh, new character. The story in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is rich and full of nuances. We get to see a lot of familiar faces and expand on Cal's journey and the development of his lightsaber and Force skills.

The concept of Tanalorr and the arduous journey to find it is one of the most interesting things I've ever gotten to experience in this franchise's universe, and it sure made me feel like I was a part of something greater than myself. I also love that Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is one of those games that allows you to explore parts of the Star Wars universe that the movies won't. Jedha is a great example of this.

1 Star Wars Jedi: Knights of the Old Republic

The Best Star Wars Game to Ever Exist

Words cannot describe how much I love Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. Not only does this title offer one of the greatest plot twists in the history of gaming, but it also presents players with turn-based combat mechanics that feel entertaining, even if they need to be polished a bit. Searching for Star Maps on Kashyyyk, Korriban, Manaan, Tatooine and Dantooine is a unique experience that feels immersive and exciting.

Granted, compared to more modern titles, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic looks dated, but that's why fans of the franchise should keep their eyes on the horizon, as a remake is in development as we speak and there are other amazing Star Wars titles being made.
