Sora's adventures in the Kingdom Hearts series have taken him and his friends to numerous worlds. They have seen a town perpetually kept in twilight, and even seen the inside of the belly of a whale.
Every Kingdom Hearts World, Ranked
Even at their worst, these worlds are still better than Gummi Ship missions.
Little did Sora know that leaving his home of Destiny Island would take him on the greatest adventure of his life. Now that Kingdom Hearts 4 is on the horizon, the team is shifting direction with Sora, and this means that they should also switch things up with the worlds.
There are some worlds in the Kingdom Hearts series that Square Enix just shouldn't bother returning to, especially with this more realistic Sora.
10 Disney Town
Missed the Mark the First Time
Disney Town only appeared in one Kingdom Hearts title, and it was Birth by Sleep. While the world itself is okay, with it being very bright, it didn't fully capture the essence of being in a Disney-themed town. It felt more eerie than anything else, with there being little to no NPCs anywhere in the world.
Since Kingdom Hearts 4 seems to be going down a much more realistic path, the idea of returning to Disney Town just doesn't sit right. The town, if done correctly, would be too whimsical, and it would stand out too much with the more realistic setting.
If Square wants to include a nod to this town, they could add more of a Disney park-themed area, allowing the game to capture the whimsy, but keep it more grounded.
9 Agrabah
Needs a Facelift
Agrabah is the Kingdom Hearts world that has appeared the most in all the games, and it is time for this world to be gone. Every iteration of this world is often found to be boring, with it lacking serious color and design.
Many have said that they despise this world, not because of the stories told in it, but because, like Anakin Skywalker, they hate sand. I have to agree, the world gets old quickly, and it is not one that I would personally like to see return in Kingdom Hearts 4.
Luckily, Square Enix didn't include Agrabah in Kingdom Hearts 3, so it doesn't seem like it would be likely to appear in the fourth mainline game.
8 Monstro
Leave the Whale Alone
It will forever be a mistake for a developer to make a flesh prison level and trap you inside. Square Enix has put Monstro in a few of the Kingdom Hearts titles, with the most notable appearance being the first Kingdom Hearts game.
Back in the day, the Monstro level felt weird because the insides of the whale were strangely colorful. Along with this, the entire level had a janky camera that didn't help you navigate it.
Bringing this world back with the new style Square Enix is going for would make it feel even more out of place, and making it realistic would just be gross. Leave this whale alone.
10 Most Addictive PS2 JRPGs
These PS2 JRPGs aren't just fun, they sink their claws into you and never let go.
7 Deep Jungle
Getting Lost
Tarzan is a timeless Disney movie that touched the hearts of many, especially the music by Phil Collins. The Tarzan world in Kingdom Hearts, however, is a completely different story. It is one of the most hated worlds of all time.
Those who have memories of the Deep Jungle world in Kingdom Hearts remember getting lost, and being annoyed about not being able to find their way to the next story beat.
Along with this, the repetitive bamboo stalks that all look the same and the terrible swinging mechanics make this world completely undesirable. Square Enix should avoid ever returning to this world, and should instead find a new way to bring Tarzan into the game.
6 100 Acre Wood
Goodbye, Pooh Bear
100 Acre Wood is one of the most used worlds in Kingdom Hearts history, with it appearing in five of the games, and each of the mainline titles. There is no denying that Winnie-the-Pooh is a childhood classic, and many who grew up with the Kingdom Hearts series adore the levels, but they aren't as amazing as you may remember.
Each iteration of the 100 Acre Wood world has been rather boring and full of pointless mini-games. After time spent in this world, many have to be like Pooh Bear and sit down to have a good think about their life choices.
Thankfully, this world is optional, but it would be nice to not see it appear in Kingdom Hearts 4. Instead, close the book on this childhood classic.
5 San Fransokyo
Lack of Detail
The idea of going to San Fransokyo in Kingdom Hearts 3 was great. I, for one, am a fan of the Big Hero 6 movie, and thought that experiencing it in the game would be fun. Unfortunately, the world didn't turn out that great.
The main reason for this is due to the lack of detail in the world. There are no mini-games that you would expect to be in a vibrant city location, and you don't even get the thrill of saving citizens from the Heartless.
The cityscape also came off less vibrant and more greyed out, making it more boring than anything. The final nail in the coffin is that Square Enix already has a city setting for Kingdom Hearts 4, and it doesn't need another, less inviting one.
10 Best JRPGs of the 2000s
The new millennium was a period of major evolution for the JRPG genre.
4 Deep Space
Cold and Sterile
Lilo and Stitch is one of the most beloved Disney films of all time, which made it all the more disappointing to be shoved into a spaceship in the Deep Space world of Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep.
The cold and sterile grey walls of the spaceship were extremely boring, and the verticality of the level got old very quickly. Along with this, the fight against Gantu was easily forgettable.
If Square Enix decides to bring Lilo and Stitch back because of the live action movie, the team should make it a point to bring you to Hawaii and let you lay out on the beach and surf some waves with your keyblade.
3 Arendelle
Stay Frozen
Am I the only one who thought that the Arendelle world in Kingdom Hearts 3 felt out of place? It felt kind of like the story was going in one direction and then shifted to a different story halfway through.
Even without the shift in story, Arendelle just didn't feel like a complete world. Instead, Square Enix trapped players in an ice cavern for most of it and called it a day.
Now that Frozen 2 exists, I suspect that the team will try to use it in Kingdom Hearts 4, and it would be better if they didn't. A lot of players disliked the Arendelle level, and not many would be excited at the prospect of returning anytime soon.
2 Olympus
Tiresome
Olympus has appeared in nearly every Kingdom Hearts game, and there have been a lot of Kingdom Hearts games. At this point, seeing Hercules in Kingdom Hearts is almost a guarantee, and it has frankly gotten tiresome.
There is only so much that can come out of the Hercules franchise, and it feels like Square Enix has been beating the dead horse for a while. We already know the original story of Hercules, and he doesn't need to constantly be looking for more heroes or showing Sora how to regain his strength.
While it is nice seeing Wonder Boy, he should finally be figuratively laid to rest and given a break from the series for a while.
1 Atlantica
Under the Sea No More
Atlantica is often referred to as the worst of the Kingdom Hearts worlds. It was disliked in the original game, and then also disliked when it made a return in Kingdom Hearts 2. I forgot to mention that it also appeared in Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories.
The swimming mechanics in this world have never felt great. Sure Square could probably make them much better now, but the damage has been done. Along with this, the characters feel like they have been overused. After all, they have appeared in three different games.
Finally, the typical mini-games used in the Atlantica level are tedious and annoying. The singing was whimsical in Kingdom Hearts 2, but it also drove many players insane.
10 Worlds We Want To See In Kingdom Hearts 4
Kingdom Hearts 4 needs some new worlds from every corner of Disney's sizable catalog.
