Including the Xbox mascot Master Chief arriving on PlayStation

Though Summer Game Fest may be in the rearview, the summer is still marching on with new announcements and exciting games coming out one after the other. PlayStation 5 gamers will have no shortage of options to choose from with an Assassin's Creed favorite, a new college football game, and more all landing on PS5 in July. Most notable? Master Chief arrives on PlayStation with Halo: Campaign Evolved. Here are five games coming to PS5 in July in order of their release dates.
But first, an honorable mention: We spotlighted Denshattack!, the skating-but-with-trains indie, last month. It was soon after delayed out of its June release date, and now will be released to railways smack dab in the middle of this month on July 15. We can't wait to play it because kickflipping around Japan as a train sounds like a game made in heaven.
1 Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced
Release date: July 9
An Assassin's Creed 4 remake was an open secret for what felt like forever, and was finally confirmed in early March. Fast forward about four months, and Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced (say that five times fast) is just about here. In between indiscriminately stabbing folks in the neck, like you do in every AC game, you'll sail the Caribbean and engage in naval battles. Polygon recently got to spend three hours wreaking havoc across the waters and walked away wondering if Black Flag Resynced is one of the best remakes ever. It'll include changes to the modern-day segments, new storylines for characters like Blackbeard, room for a pet on your pirate ship, and more.

College football returned to the video game world in 2024 and has been a staple of EA's annual sports releases since. EA Sports College Football 27 arrives in July and includes the bones of the past couple of iterations paired with some new ideas. In Dynasty Mode, you'll now have to decide how much NIL (name, image, and likeness) money to pay players, for example. Your created player in Road to Glory can now be a tight end, edge rusher, or free safety. The best mode — unarguably — will be Mascot Mashup, 11-on-11 football featuring mascots going head-to-head. Y'all best look out when Albert starts doing The Gator Chomp on the gridiron.
3 The Alters: Last Variable
Image: 11 bit studiosRelease date: July 13
The Alters was one of last year's best survival games, and it's about to get an expansion so large it sounds like a sequel. The Alters: Last Variable will have a 20-hour campaign and introduce new Jans to clone and new equipment to build. While it takes place after the events of the base game, you won't need an end-game save file and can boot it right up from the start menu. Expect lots of stressful complications and probably some in-fighting amongst the Jans as Jan Scientist, the expansion's player character, tries to research a hidden oasis on the hostile world the Jans were trapped on.
4 Moss: The Forgotten Relic
Image: PolyarcRelease date: July 16
Moss: The Forgotten Relic collects two games in one package. It transforms both Moss and Moss: Book 2 from VR-exclusive games to flatscreen isometric adventures. As someone with terrible motion sickness and chronic migraines, who is therefore not built for VR, I say, "Hell yeah!" You'll guide the mouse named Quill throughout a world contained within the pages of a living storybook on a journey full of environmental puzzles and hidden secrets. The Forgotten Relic will include enhanced visuals and new cutscenes.
5 Halo: Campaign Evolved
Image: Halo Studios/Xbox Game StudiosRelease date: July 28
After last summer's Gears of War: Reloaded landed on PlayStation, another of Xbox's seminal series gets a PS5 release with Halo: Campaign Evolved. As the title implies, it's a remake of the first Halo's story mode — it will not include competitive multiplayer (but you will be able to play its campaign in co-op). However, it will include additions to make the 25-year-old story feel fresh: weapons from later Halo games will be usable in Campaign Evolved, and it will include three brand-new story missions. After playing two levels of Campaign Evolved in June, we said it "changes just enough to feel like a brand-new game." Those who really want change will look forward to toying with the Skull system, one of which transforms Halo: Campaign Evolved into a third-person shooter.
