PlayStation is full of franchises that helped lift it up and become the powerhouse it is today. Sony wouldn't be as big of a company now if it wasn't for its older IPs that helped launch it into the stratosphere.

We all have dreams of games that we played that we wish would get a sequel or a remake, yet one never seems to come. Now, many people beg game companies to revive these franchises, but not everything gets greenlit.

Within the next few years, Sony will move on from the PlayStation 5 and usher in the next console generation. The launch of the PlayStation 6 is the perfect time to revive some of these iconic IPs and give them new life.

8 Ape Escape

Capture the Monkeys

PlayStation Franchises Ape Escape

Ape Escape was a big series on the PlayStation and PlayStation 2. It originally released back in 1999. The game went on to receive two sequels, with Ape Escape 3 being released in 2005 on the PlayStation 2.

As the name implies, the franchise involved you running around and collecting various monkeys. While it was a very simple concept, it was enough to capture the attention of many kids at the time.

Now, there are plenty who would love to see another mainline game in the series surface, or at the very least, Sony could go out of its way to develop a remake trilogy of the iconic franchise.

7 Killzone

A Previous Flagship

PlayStation Franchises Killzone Shadow Fall

Killzone was a big franchise for PlayStation back in the day. The first title appeared on the PlayStation 2, then came Liberation, and then more sequels. Between 2009 and 2013, the franchise saw four releases, with three of them being on console and one being on the PS Vita.

With six titles in the franchise and one collection, it is hard to believe that Sony would just let this IP disappear. After all, the latest game in the series, Shadow Fall, sold over 2 million copies.

Apparently, the title has since been retired by Sony, and it is a shame, since the shooter franchise was quite fun. It would be nice to see it brought back in a new way on the PS6.

6 Jak and Daxter

A Legendary Series

Naughty Dog has created some great IPs over the years, but one of the most memorable is Jak and Daxter. The pair used to be synonymous with PlayStation, and for a time, it seemed the franchise would never end.

Over the years, we got three mainline games in the series, a Daxter spin-off title, a racing game, and a title called Jak and Daxter: The Lost Frontier. At one point, Sony brought the franchise back with a game collection, but no attempt to revive the IP has been made.

The PlayStation 6 would be a great time to revive the franchise by adding a fourth mainline game to the series. At the very least, Sony should acknowledge the game for its 25th anniversary.

Carnage

PlayStation Franchises Twisted MEtal

The original Twisted Metal game appeared on the PlayStation in 1995. It later ended up receiving three mainline sequels. After that, it got multiple spin-off titles, making it a surprise to see that it ended back in 2012 on the PS3.

This vehicular combat title is one that many people loved, and one that many still talk about to this day. It is popular enough that it received a TV series on Peacock. That show then went on to get a second season, and a third is on the way.

With the popularity of this franchise, it would be awesome to see Sony bring Twisted Metal back to PlayStation where it belongs. I think it would make a great PS6 exclusive title, especially if the television series keeps getting praised the way it does.

4 Little Big Planet

What Happened to Sackboy?

PlayStation Franchises LittleBigPlanet

Admittedly, Little Big Planet isn't as dead as some of these franchises. The game was originally released on the PS3 back in 2008. After that, it received two mainline sequels and a handful of spin-off titles like LittleBigPlanet Karting and Sackboy's Prehistoric Moves.

The latest main release for this series was Sackboy: A Big Adventure on the PS4 in 2020. Since then, the franchise received a mobile game called Ultimate Sackboy, but no true Little Big Planet title has appeared since 2014.

It appears Sackboy was replaced by Astro Bot, but it would be nice to see the two come together in a new title. After all, Sackboy was a big part of PlayStation during the PS3 and PS4 eras.

3 Infamous

An Infamous Return

PlayStation Franchises Infamous Second Son

Infamous was a short-lived franchise on the PlayStation 3 that began in 2009 and ended in 2014 with Infamous: Second Son on the PS4. Despite lasting for only five years, many still talk about how great these games were, with each of them getting fairly high review scores.

Sucker Punch stepped away from the Infamous series and moved on to make games like Ghost of Tsushima, but no other game has managed to fill the space left by the Infamous series.

Bringing back Infamous on the PS6 would be a huge comeback for the franchise, and it would certainly put more eyes on the system, especially from those who like superhero titles.

2 Sly Cooper

Return of the Thievius Raccoonus

PlayStation Franchises Sly Cooper
Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus

If there is any franchise people associate with PlayStation, it is Sly Cooper. This thieving raccoon has been appearing in games since 2002 with Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus.

Since then, there have been four Sly Cooper titles, with the latest being Thieves in Time in 2013 on the PS3. A collection was also released in 2010 that included the first three games in the series.

We have seen Sucker Punch make a nod to Sly Cooper in Ghost of Tsushima, but nothing major has come out about this franchise in some time. There was also a movie that was in the works, but it was scrapped. Rumor has it that the team is working to bring this franchise back, and if that is the case, it would be amazing to see it appear on the PS6.

1 Bloodborne

Always Teased

PlayStation Franchises Bloodborne

The year is 2014, and FromSoftware has just released a new title called Bloodborne on the PS4. It is dark and gruesome like the Dark Souls series, but plays much quicker. It quickly becomes one of the most loved Souls games, so much so that the Souls genre gets changed to "Soulsborne."

Since the PS5 was released, fans have begged Sony to release a remake of Bloodborne on the console. They have also begged for a sequel. Instead, they received a remake of Demon's Souls.

Bloodborne 2 is a title that fans actively keep asking for. Every time there is a State of Play, there are groups of people saying that it might finally be announced. I have given up on this title seeing the light of day on the PS5, but Sony would be foolish to not release it on the PS6.
