8 Things to Do to Prepare For Deltarune Chapters 6 and 7

After we've been waiting years between chapters, we're now closer to the end of Deltarune than we are to the beginning. For me, as someone who was there when Chapter 1 was released for free one fateful Halloween, it's honestly making my head spin. Our time exploring these fantastical Dark Worlds is coming to a close. Every mystery haunting us in the back of our minds has a truth, and we're getting closer to finding out that truth with every passing day.

According to Toby Fox, Chapter 6 has an estimated 2027 release date, and I have a feeling we might be waiting two more years after that. We have time to savor this world, so let's look into what we should all strive to do in Deltarune to make sure we get the best ending possible. Because, really, who knows what will happen with a Toby Fox game?

8 Go Recruit Hunting

One of the most fun things about exploring the Dark Worlds in Deltarune is finding new enemies in every chapter. Who's it going to be this time? Is it going to be sentient holy water that can sing? A shadow that talks in jazzy sounds? A cute bird that goes "nyon?" Every single time, there's something surprising and fun to interact with in battle. A lot of the enemies you can find in Deltarune can be recruited, which means you'll be able to see and interact with them again in Castle Town after the chapter is over.

Once a chapter ends, there's no real way to go back to it short of playing the entire chapter over again. Deltarune's chapter select features work well at avoiding a lot of backtracking frustration with most linear RPGs, but it still stings when you finish a chapter and realize you left an important recruit or NPC behind. (Like the original... Starwalker.) Ahead of the end, I feel like we should gather them all up. Just in case.

7 Complete Chapter 5

Savor these Suns

These Dark Worlds really live up to their name, giving us an entire world's worth to explore in every single chapter. Chapter 5 is a shining example of this. There's so much to do and see that it can truly be called a world of its own. The flowers go to great lengths to make sure everyone is having a good time and that they get to live their dreams to the fullest. This optimistic vibe combined with such a huge amount of content is why I feel like everyone should complete Chapter 5 before playing Chapter 6, or even Chapter 7.

You might be thinking that you've already done that. "That comes free with getting your completion data for Chapter 6," or something. I don't mean complete it like the way Deltarune means it. I mean the 100% completion way. Really dive deep into this Dark World and see everything, even the cat that might bite your hand. There's no real deep reason or possible end-changing prediction behind this. I just feel like the hope of Chapter 5 is worth experiencing before diving deep into the last two chapters. It'll make the impact more powerful.

6 Stock Up on Items

Use! That! Storage!

Not only does Deltarune have tons of unique enemies every chapter, but it also introduces new items every time. There are only a few items that make their way to future chapters under specific circumstances. With so many creative and fun items, everyone's bound to have a few favorites. Whether you've picked the most efficient items or you just like the funny names they all have, no choice is the wrong one.

If you like one item above all the others, what's wrong with taking a little extra time in a chapter to make some extra friends, earn a bunch of Dark Dollars, and get as much of that item as you can? Deltarune gives us 48 storage slots to fill up, and I don't know about you guys, but I didn't start using them until Chapter 5. (Thanks, Flowery.) Considering things are only going to get harder from here, I think stocking up on items you know you strategize well with will help you in unexpected ways. So, let's get to grinding!

5 Beat the Secret Bosses

Gather the Shadow Crystals

In case you didn't know, (and in that case, how?) Deltarune has a secret boss to fight in each chapter. Some chapters, like Chapter 3, have more than one secret encounter. The most important of these bosses have something called a Shadow Crystal that you can get from them. We don't entirely know what purpose the Shadow Crystals will serve as we get closer to the end, but they must be important. Once you get one, they can be re-obtained if you rewrite your save on that particular slot, without fighting the boss again.

That explains a lot with these bosses, doesn't it? If you want them to be, they're a one-time challenge to get an important item. Even if you don't feel like you have what it takes, why not take them on? Like I said, we don't know if they'll change the ending or anything dramatic like that. Seam does say they'll make an item with them if we collect all five, so why not have some fun and test your bullet hell mettle?

4 Play the Game Closer to Chapter 7's Release Date

If we're going to be honest, I think Chapter 5 marked a divide between casual and hardcore Deltarune players. There were plenty of people saying Flowery's fight was too hard, but there were also others that thought he was just fine and everyone else needed to get good. The developers stepped in and made it so Flowery gets easier the more you fight him, but they can't do that forever.

The next two final bosses — that we know of — are likely going to be even tougher. The same goes for any future secret bosses. We're going to want to be sharp as we dive into the end. I know it'll feel easy to just open the game and play Chapter 6 or 7 with the completion files you've had from the start, but it might be for the best if we practice before the end. I feel like the endgame is going to put the "hell" in bullet hell.

3 Get Your Favorite Gear

One of the reasons why some players are struggling with bosses at this stage of the game is because Deltarune hasn't cared too much about stats in the earlier chapters. Plenty of equipment give important stats and buffs, but a lot of them aim to just do something silly. The equipment that ups Ralsei's cuteness and fluffiness stats come to mind. Fun, but not exactly efficient.

The upside to this is that you can use your favorite gear without worrying too much. If you're good at dodging bullets, you can probably use whatever items you like. If you know where your limits with the game are, then figuring out how to balance that out should come naturally to you. Some items are found by digging deep into Deltarune's secrets, like the Shadow Mantle. It'll be a struggle to get some of them, but at least the content that you'll experience for the trouble will help make it pretty worthwhile.

2 Buy Deltarune Twice

I'm Not Taking Any Chances

I get it. Times are tough, and games are getting more and more expensive. I can see how advising you to buy any game again sounds like heresy. My counterpoint is simple: Deltarune is a Toby Fox game. You know what his other game is? Undertale. You know. (Or at least I hope you know Undertale.) The same game that if you played the Genocide Route and then went and got the Pacifist Ending, your ending would be all but permanently changed. The happy ending would always be ripped away from the characters by Chara, no matter how many times you played it.

We don't know what Deltarune's ending will be like, or if there will truly be one ending like Tricky Tony has teased. Depending on the system you're playing Deltarune on, undoing any damage will range from just deleting your save data to messing with your cloud saves on Steam. I think having a second copy just to avoid having to delete data after completing everything might be a good investment.

1 Get All the Eggs

Tell the Forgotten Man I Said "Hi"

An "egg room" is hidden in every Deltarune chapter up until Chapter 6. Despite its name, you will find a tree and a man in this room who will take the time to speak to Kris. After their conversation, he'll hand them an egg.

These are some of the most liminal spaces in Deltarune, and they're all fairly hard to find. It's been a bit of a literal Easter egg for fans to discover for the last while. After a patch to Chapter 5, though, it seems there might be more to these eggs. If you collect the one in Chapter 5, beat the secret boss, and encounter a strange ACT near the Shrine, you'll get secret dialogue with the shopkeeper by the castle. She'll warn you that cat bites are no joke, and that you need to keep protein away from it. This is the first clue that we have that the eggs might be important. So, maybe we should gather them. Just in case.

Yeah, after all of this, I probably sound paranoid. After Undertale's surprises, though, I don't think anyone can blame me.
