Fans of non-traditional meet-cutes won’t have to wait long for more of the good stuff: anime series Marriagetoxin is getting a second season in 2027. Bandai Namco and Shueisha announced season 2 of Marriagetoxin during the 13th and final episode of season 1 when it aired on June 30.
For those who haven’t been following, Marriagetoxin is an action-packed romantic comedy that follows Gero, a member of the Poison Master clan. After his sister is almost forced into an arranged partnership to carry on their family lineage, Gero volunteers to venture into the dating world to find a partner. Luckily, he runs into marriage swindler Mei Kinosaki, who becomes his advisor in romantic matters. He certainly needs it. While our hero is a master assassin, he lacks game. Before long, Kinosaki realizes that Gero's charm lies in his selflessness and desire to help others, meaning the fastest way to find a potential partner is to send him on high-stakes protection missions.
Animated by Bones Film (My Hero Academia), Marriagetoxin is a delightful combination of rom-com antics and frenetic action sequences. Gero’s lineup of perspective partners are a lovable group of heroines, including a gallant art thief, a shy college student who loves magic, and a boisterous member of the Beast Clans who commands adorable rodents that go “Hammu!”
Coming off My Hero Academia’s explosive final season, several of Bones’ best animators contributed sequences to Marriagetoxin, including an ultimate battle that unleashes the great Yutaka Nakamura. All in all, it’s been a fun ride so far.
Thankfully, all the key staff are returning for the second season: Motonobu Hori will once again direct, Kimiko Ueno is in charge of series composition and the script, Kohei Tokuoka remains the character designer and chief animation director, and Taisei Iwasaki and Yuma Yamaguchi are handling the music.
The Marriagetoxin manga has been running in Shōnen Jump Plus since April 2022 and has been compiled into 17 volumes. Considering the show has only adapted up to partway through volume 6 and the manga is still ongoing, there is still plenty of material left to cover.
