Adventure Time: Side Quests to debut on Disney Plus this June

Finn and Jake find a new home for their new show

When the original Adventure Time premiered on Cartoon Network in 2010, fans were treated to eight years of wacky, whimsical fun following Finn the Human and Jake the Dog as they embarked on adventures across the land of Ooo. Now, after popular spinoffs like Fionna and Cake found their own success, the original duo returns with Adventure Time: Side Quests.

Disney Plus and Hulu have announced that Adventure Time: Side Quests will premiere in the U.S. on June 29. The series is produced by Cartoon Network Studios and Nate Cash (SpongeBob SquarePants), with Darrick Bachman (Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends) serving as story editor, Victor Courtright and Niki Yang as directors, Nick Cross as art director, and Matthew Janszen as composer.

The series will serve as a companion to the original Adventure Time, featuring brand-new adventures for Finn (formerly voiced by Jeremy Shada and now voiced by Sasha Knight) and Jake (voiced by John DiMaggio) that aim to "capture the spirit" of the show's earlier years. While Adventure Time went on to include traditional, episode-spanning story arcs, Side Quests looks as though it will contain far more self-contained adventures. The new series aims to introduce a new generation of fans to the world of Ooo while still appealing to older fans eager to jump back into the franchise they grew up with.

"Making Side Quests felt like making the original Adventure Time, which felt like hanging out with art school buddies making professional cartoons," showrunner and executive producer Nate Cash shared in a news release. "That sounds like a big sandwich of feelings, and it was! You're going to love these NEW adventures with Finn & Jake!"

It won't be just Finn and Jake returning to TV screens. Fan favorites like Princess Bubblegum (Hynden Walch), Marceline (Olivia Olson), BMO (Niki Yang), and Ice King (Tom Kenny) will also be making an appearance.

The original series of Adventure Time ended in September 2018, but the franchise has been far from quiet. Since it concluded, there have been spinoffs like Adventure Time: Fionna & Cake, as well as several Adventure Time comics. While following Fionna and Cake's exploits or the love story between Princess Bubblegum and Marceline has been great, we're certain that Adventure Time fans won't turn their nose up at the chance to spend even more time with Finn, Jake and the world of Ooo in Side Quests.
