Adapting an entire video game universe into a live-action feature movie is always a double-edged sword. Fans are naturally equal parts hyped and terrified whenever Hollywood sets its sights on a beloved IP, especially when that IP is FromSoftware's dark fantasy masterpiece, Elden Ring.

Bringing the vast, lore-dense vistas of the Lands Between to the big screen sounds like an incredible undertaking. However, it seems that director Alex Garland and acclaimed studio A24 have somehow managed to cross the finish line, as recent behind-the-scenes updates confirm that production has officially wrapped – well, at least for the art and props department.

Six Months of Crafting the Lands Between

The big milestone came directly from Sean Schofield, a member of the movie's art and props department, who recently took to Instagram to share an update on the project's progress.

In a post showcasing a special A24 swag bag handed out to the production team, Schofield revealed that filming had wrapped after half a year of relentless physical and creative work on set. A24 even included a heartfelt message alongside the wrap gifts to thank the crew for their immense efforts – after all, adapting a Souls game for the big screen is certainly no walk in the park.

“Thank you for your incredibly hard work on Elden Ring. Your skill, dedication and all-round professionalism were integral in bringing this unique project to life,” the official note reads. “We wish you a well-earned rest.”

Besides, Schofield was visibly thrilled with how the project turned out. “Dream job to end all dream jobs,” he wrote in his Instagram caption. “6 solid months of blood, sweat and tears making the coolest stuff ever, working alongside the best of the best. Can't share anything else for a very long time, but I couldn't be more proud of what we did. See you in the Lands Between on March 3rd, 2028!”. You can check the post right below:

Knowing that the production team spent six months pouring their passion into building actual physical props and sets gives me a huge wave of relief. In an era where blockbusters often rely way too heavily on generic green screens and bland CGI, hearing someone from the art department talk so passionately about physically crafting "the coolest stuff ever" suggests A24 is treating Hidetaka Miyazaki’s world with the artistic respect it deserves.

While principal photography wrapping is a massive step forward, our journey to premiere night is going to require a bit of Tarnished patience. With a confirmed release date set for March 3, 2028 (as Schofield highlighted in his post), the project is officially entering an extensive post-production phase.

That timeline makes total sense when you consider what is required to bring world-class bosses, terrifying creature designs, and intricate spell effects to life. Between heavy visual effects work, editing, sound design, and scoring, A24 clearly wants to give the team ample breathing room to polish every single frame. Also, knowing that they are handling the production alongside a crew that clearly adored working on this adaptation gives me a ton of optimism. I don't know about you, but I am definitely marking March 3, 2028, on my calendar – and I cannot wait to finally see how the Lands Between look on an IMAX screen! I just hope there will actually be tickets left for those IMAX seats by the time sales open (unlike the nightmare of trying to grab a ticket for Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey right now, where everything is completely sold out).
