Alien Isolation 2 trailer makes a terrifying debut at Summer Game Fest

Get ready for xenomorphs to be scary again, because Alien Isolation 2 is on the way. At today’s Summer Game Fest, we finally got a look at the long-awaited Sega-published game. It's coming to PS5, Xbox, Steam, and the Switch 2. A release date wasn’t announced.

The trailer shows a colony world shrouded in fog, as a narrator speaks to an unseen character in Japanese. They talk of last chances and how “the company” (presumably Weyland-Yutani) doesn’t forgive mistakes so easily. Another character, presumably Amanda Ripley, the protagonist of the first game, eventually responds that they understand. The camera cuts to a writhing alien spine, broken ventilation shafts, and the iconic monster’s slimy maw as a scream brings us to the title card.

While we didn’t get a lot to go on, the game will apparently take place on an isolated colony planet, meaning it will take place in much more open environments than were found in the first game, which took place in a cramped spaceship. This very much tracks with the trajectory of Alien to Aliens: the first film was set entirely in space, while its sequel took place on a colony overrun with xenomorphs.

The original Alien Isolation came out in 2014 to a solid reception that would grow more reverential in time. Fans of the game cite the xenomorph’s wicked intelligence and an unrelenting atmosphere as its biggest boons, while most of its detractors found it a bit too oppressive. After years of waiting, Creative Assembly hinted at a sequel not too long ago. While we don’t have a release window yet, it’s comforting to know that a follow-up to one of the most tense games ever made is on the way.
