Are you eager to defeat all bosses in Metroid Prime 4: Beyond? These corrupted creatures await you on the planet of Viewros, and you have to take them out if you wish to progress further into the campaign. We've got all the details for you right here in our guide, but be ready for major spoilers, too.

Aberax

Aberax

Aberax is the first boss in Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, so you shouldn't expect too much of a challenge. You fight him in the UTO Research Center during the game's prologue. You need to watch out for the following:

  • Globule Orbs - Aberax will either toss several bouncing orbs toward you, or it'll fire a single shot. You can shoot the former, but you need to avoid the latter.
  • Shockwave - Aberax will cast a shockwave that emanates from its body. If the shockwave travels along the ground, just jump up to avoid it. If the shockwave is shaped like a wall, then you should dodge sideways.

For the most part, you just have to shoot the nodules on Aberax's body as long as they don't have a yellow glow. Eventually, a larger nodule will appear when the creature opens its torso. Wailt away on it until you win the battle.

Carvex

Carvex

You face Carvex at the tail end of your trek through Fury Green, the first zone in the campaign proper. This plant-like behemoth has the following abilities:

  • Sweeping Tendrils - It will summon one, two, then three tendrils as the fight progresses. These will either strike you directly or sweep along the ground.
  • Whirling Blades - Flowers with serrated petals will fly toward you.
  • Jagged Roots - Upon destroying Carvex's tendrils, its spiky roots will travel along the ground for several seconds.

The goal of this encounter is to destroy the bulbous growth in each tendril in quick succession. If you take too long, the tendrils will regrow, thus prolonging the fight:

  • If you see two or more tendrils, shoot the carapace to expose the bulbous growths but don't destroy them just yet.
  • Then, charge your Psychic Control Beam and guide the projectile so that it hits all the growths. Time will stop as you're maneuvering the projectile, which makes this task a breeze.
  • Once the tendrils are gone, shoot the green blob in Carvex's core to damage it.
  • Note that, at the last phase, branches will emerge from your opponent. You have to carefully move the Control Beam projectile so it doesn't hit the obstacles.

For your efforts, you'll receive the Psychic Bomb ability for your Morph Ball. You'll also obtain a Master Teleporter Key.

Flight Drone

Flight Drone

You face the Flight Drone after restoring the electricity in Tower 2 of the Vault Forge. Technically, it's just a miniboss, but we'd be remiss if we didn't include it in our article. That's because battling this contraption is quite frustrating, until you realize what you need to do:

  • Use your charged shots to destroy the smaller drones surrounding the central core. Then, make sure that only a handful of drones are left and the three electric orbs are clearly visible.
  • Do not go near the Flight Drone at this stage. If you do and you accidentally shoot one of the orbs, it will cast a shockwave ability that resummons a bunch of nanites.
  • Instead, move farther away and use your Psychic Control Beam. Guide the projectile so that it hits all three electric orbs. This weakens the target, allowing you to shoot it with impunity.

Sylux Part 1

Sylux Part 1

This won't be the only time you'll encounter the Sylux boss in Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. This particular duel occurs immediately after you've taken care of the Flight Drone in the Volt Forge:

  • Advancing Strike - Sylux swiftly rushes toward you and does a melee blow.
  • Crystalline Shards - Sylux summons six shards that home in on your location.
  • Bursting Shards - The boss will float in mid-air, causing multiple shards to fly out and electrify the ground.
  • Shockwave - Causes an energy wave to travel along the ground.
  • Whirlwind - The boss will continuously spin and chase you around the arena.

We feel that it's easier to defeat Sylux if you're just trying to avoid his Whirlwind ability. If you stay far away from him, he should activate his Whirlwind more often and, from there, you can just transform into a Morph Ball. As Sylux spins around, start dropping charges of your Psychic Bomb. Sylux gets temporarily stunned whenever a bomb damages him, which means you can plop down more explosives.

Besting Sylux here nets you an Energy Tank. This helps increase Samus' survivability by adding an extra health restoration charge/pip.

Xelios

Xelios

Xelios awaits you at the bottom of Tower 3 of the Vault Forge. This corrupted machine has the following abilities:

  • Energy Orbs - Multiple orbs start emanating from the boss. You can shoot the smaller orbs if you want. But, if it charges a larger projectile, you need to dodge to the side.
  • Entrapment - The boss will ensnare you in an orange field. Move away from the area-of-effect before an explosion is triggered.
  • Shockwave - A shockwave travels along the floor of the chamber.
  • Malfunction - Later in the bout, tendrils of electricity will erupt from the boss' core.

The Xelios machine is comprised of several metallic panels that protect its core. Keep shooting the panels with a green glow to expose the core in the middle. Then, blast the core with your weapons to damage the boss. Once you've taken it out, you'll receive the Psychic Boots (i.e. double jump ability) and another Master Teleporter Key.

Keratos

Keratos

You'll find Keratos in the Quarantine area of the Ice Belt. This behemoth has the following attacks:

  • Ice Crystals - Keratos periodically spews shards that also fire additional projectiles. There are variants that track your character's location and those that hover for prolonged periods. You can shoot these to create ammo and health pickups.
  • Shockwave - Causes icicle stalagmites to travel along the ground.
  • Rolling Rampage - Keratos will roll around the arena and attempt to ram into your character.

Think of this as a battle of attrition. Your goal is to survive Keratos' Ice Crystals and Shockwave abilities, all while moving out of the way when it does Rolling Rampage. Eventually, it will do a Rolling Rampage with a longer charge-up time, one that has a very distinct sound effect. When this occurs, swiftly dodge so the boss crashes into the walls. You can then blast it with your weapons while it's stunned. Once this foe has been defeated, you'll receive the Psychic Boost Ball ability and the third Master Teleporter Key.

Hover Shuttle Transport

Hover Shuttle Transport

You'll face the Hover Shuttle Transport miniboss just after your tram crashes in Flare Pool. Initially, it will spawn several bot enemies that you need to eliminate. Then, it will toss homing mines or fire a powerful laser beam. Note that the beam deals tremendous damage and it can also obliterate pillars along the bridge. You have to switch to a Morph Ball and hug low walls to avoid it.

Phenoros

Phenoros

We feel that Phenoros is one of the most epic boss fights in Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. You battle this dragon in a lava-filled arena in Flare Pool. The encounter also happens to have three distinct phases.

During the first phase, you must follow Phenoros while mounted on your Vi-O-La cycle. You'll notice blue nodules on its underside. Press and hold the A button to lock-on these targets.

Phase 2, meanwhile, is a long and drawn-out segment. You can only damage Phenoros while its mouth is open and while it's roaring. This occurs whenever you hit a blue nodule on its face.

  • Flame Breath - The boss will breathe fire in a sweeping arc. Turn into a Morph Ball to avoid it.
  • Dragon Bite - When the boss rears its head, it will try to gobble up Samus. This attack deals a ton of damage, and you need to mash the A button just to escape.
  • Pop the Nodules - You can either use Charged Shot or Control Beam to hit the nodes. We recommend Control Beam since you can maneuver the projectile to get a direct hit. Note that destroying a nodule also interrupts any ability that Phenoros is about to do.

Finally, phase 3 concludes the bout. You have to use Control Beam to guide the projectile straight into the dragon's mouth and all the way to its heart. This nets you the Psychic Grapple ability and the fourth Master Teleporter Key.

Sylux Part 2

Sylux Part 2

Once you have the Psychic Grapple, return to Tower 1 of the Volt Forge and latch onto the objects in the Collapsed Catwalk. Take the elevator down to the Generator room and pick up the Thunder Chip. This triggers a cutscene where another Sylux variant shows up.

Sylux retains most of his abilities from the previous encounter. The biggest difference here is that he has a new power that causes the entire room to be electrified for several seconds. To avoid taking damage, you need to grapple onto the points on the pillars. There's also another grapple point atop a wall, and you can stay in this position while shooting your opponent. Just be ready in case Sylux gets too close. You'll fall back to the ground and need to grapple onto something again if the floor is still electrified.

These are the Metroid Prime 4: Beyond bosses that we've faced so far in the campaign. We'll include more opponents as we continue our journey, so stay tuned.
