As a first-person extraction shooter, there needs to be a healthy variety of weapons, so players have plenty of choices for any combat situation. In Marathon, there are 28 in total, across eight different categories, all available in the pre-launch Marathon Server Slam running this weekend.
We're still working out what the best Marathon weapons are, but in the meantime, why not feast your eyes upon the full list? Every weapon can be modified and upgraded with various mods and attachments, so once you've found your favorites for the respective Marathon classes, kit them out however you like.
Marathon assault rifles
Image: Bungie via PolygonThere are four assault rifles in Marathon, and they're as you'd expect: fully automatic, capable of engaging in combat both up close and at range.
- Overrun AR
- V75 Scar
- Impact H-AR
- M77 Assault Rifle
Marathon machine guns
Image: Bungie via PolygonThe three machine guns, on the other hand, are your typical LMGs and HMGs: much heavier, unwieldy but capable of dealing devastating damage.
- Retaliator LMG
- Demolition HMG
-
Conquest LMG
Marathon precision rifles
Image: Bungie via PolygonThere are six precision rifles available, and these are your longer range, single-shot and burst-fire rifles. Whack a longer range scope on them or use them without — the choice is yours.
- Hardline PR
- Repeater HPR
- V66 Lookout
- BR33 Volley Rifle
- Twin Tap HBR
-
Stryder MiT
Marathon pistols
Image: Bungie via PolygonPistols are commonly considered sidearms in FPS games, and while they're more than capable of fulfilling that role here, you could also head to Tau Ceti IV with just a pistol if you were so inclined. You have three to choose from anyhow, and they're all reliable options.
- V11 Punch
- CE Tactical Sidearm
-
Magnum MC
Marathon railguns
Image: Bungie via PolygonRailguns are one of those weapon types that are incredibly situational, but when used correctly, they're capable of absolutely destroying any foe. In Marathon, they're rarer than most other weapon types, but don't let the gear fear stop you from using them.
- V00 Zeus RG
-
Ares RG
Marathon shotguns
Image: Bungie via PolygonEveryone knows what shotguns are capable of — close quarters combat destruction — and since Marathon has so many huge, complex structures with maze-like interiors, they're unbeatable. Pair them with a longer-range weapon for your outside engagements for one of the most versatile loadouts.
- Misriah 2442
- V85 Circuit Breaker
-
WSTR Combat Shotgun
Marathon sniper rifles
Image: Bungie via PolygonPlanning on some long-range combat outside of the megalithic structures that make up many of Marathon's zones? Take a sniper rifle because there are plenty of long sight lines you can take advantage of to deal with enemies from afar.
- Outland
- V99 Channel Rifle
-
Longshot
Marathon submachine guns
Image: Bungie via PolygonFinally, we have the SMGs. Each of these four is fully automatic, but suited to shorter-range combat than the assault rifles. The Bully SMG is one of the most common weapons you'll encounter, and is a perfectly reliable operator, even if its magazine size is a tad small.
- Copperhead RF
- Bully SMG
- V22 Volt Thrower
- BRRT SMG
Of course, you always have a knife equipped by default, which is technically your third weapon. It's not particularly strong though, especially against UESC foes, so only use it as a last resort.
