Ascend to ZERO is a time-bending action-roguelike where you can use your unique ability to freeze time and fight your way to the top.

Have you ever wondered what it feels like to stop time? The clock is ticking, but luckily you can manipulate and bend time to your will! Every second is another weapon in your arsenal – learn to wield it better with every passing run! “Ascend to ZERO gives a fresh twist to the roguelike genre with its unique time mechanic. The combination of thirty seconds in the past, the clever use of Time Stop, and the many build options makes for exciting and varied runs that you play through at a high pace.” Unlock a variety of skills, chips and abilities to become a force to be reckoned with!
The 30-second timer sounds like the kind of gimmick that would become annoying after two runs, but it can be increased and is easily the best part of Ascend to ZERO. Instead of just rushing while a number counts down, every encounter becomes a decision about when time is allowed to move, when to freeze it, and whether another fight is worth the seconds it might earn back. It keeps everything frantic without turning Ascend to ZERO into mindless chaos. Combat is simple, fast, and satisfying, especially once a build starts coming together.
One minute it’s a desperate struggle to survive, and a few upgrades later the character is a walking fireworks accident deleting half the room. There is a lot of permanent progression, currencies, and gear to deal with—maybe a little too much at first—but failed runs rarely feel completely wasted. The game knows exactly what it is. It is not trying to be some enormous genre-defining epic. It is a focused little roguelite with one genuinely clever mechanic, and almost everything is built around making that mechanic matter.
The core gameplay loop of build management followed by quick-paced bursts of action activates the dopamine receptors in the brain in a weird way, making it surprisingly addictive. It feels like none of this should work, but it does. That said, the spreadsheet management-to-gameplay ratio could use a bit more balancing. On the negative side, Ascend to ZERO is rough around the edges from a technical standpoint, with some particularly bad audio mixing. The story is competent, but progressing too quickly can cause parts of it to break or lose their impact. It also becomes a little too grindy toward the end.
