Assassin's Creed Shadows Will Get Its Last Expansion Tomorrow

Roughly three months after Assassin's Creed Shadows celebrated its one-year anniversary, the Sengoku period Japan-set Assassin's Creed title will receive its final major update for free on all platforms on Tuesday, June 16th.

This comes less than a month before Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced, a modern remake of Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, debuts on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series consoles on Thursday, July 9th.

While this final update may be bittersweet for fans of Naoe and Yasuke, especially after several other expansions were canceled, this expansion will send Shadows out with a bang as it will feature a climatic story drop, a new PvE mode, and a treasure trove of new cosmetics and weapons that tie into AC games new and old.

Naoe and Yasuke's Conclusion in Black Tides

The most prominent aspect of Assassin's Creed Shadows' Title Update 1.1.11 is the Black Tides story drop, which sees two elite-ranking Black Cross Templars, Sir Eamon Hathaway and Nirmala of Java, dispatched to Japan to eliminate Naoe and Yasuke and search for Isu artifacts and the Observatory.

In order to gain access to Black Tides, players will need to have downloaded and completed the two previous post-launch quests, "A Critical Encounter" and "A Puzzlement."

Oddly, players won't have to have purchased or completed the Claws of Awaji expansion to access Black Tides, despite Shadows' Associate Game Director Simon Lemay-Comtois stating that the new story drop would reveal Shadows' "real" ending.

In the official Title Update 1.1.11 video, it's highly suggested that Black Tides will not only connect to events and characters from Black Flag and Assassin's Creed Odyssey but also connect to the modern-day Assassin and Templar conflict via a new Animus Rift called Horizon.

By completing Anomalies and the two new Projects, Riptides and Undertow, players will be able to unlock a new outfit for Naoe based on Edward Kenway's Assassin robes and an early 18th-century pirate outfit for Yasuke, as well as outfits based on Naoe and Yasuke's main appearances for Kenway in Black Flag Resynced.

Assassin's Creed Shadows' Final Gameplay Additions

On top of the Black Tides story drop, Title Update 1.1.11 will debut a new PvE mode for Assassin's Creed Shadows called Domains which drops players in five elite animus trials across 10 difficulty settings.

The higher the difficulty, the more gameplay modifiers will be added to alter enemy types and abilities, making Domains the ultimate challenge for those who think they have mastered Shadows' gameplay routine after multiple playthroughs.

Upon completing a Domain trial, players will earn a new in-game currency which can only be used at the Domains shop to purchase high-quality endgame gear sets, "game-breaking" engravings, skill upgrades for the Domains skill tree, and exclusive weapons and armor, with many of them being inspired by classic AC protagonists.

For example, players will be able to unlock a Kusarigama based on Connor Kenway's Assassin Tomahawk from Assassin's Creed III, a Tanto based on the Spear of Leonidas from Odyssey, and the Long Katana based on Excalibur from Assassin's Creed Valhalla.

Some notable armor players will be able to unlock through Domains include an outfit based on Evie Frye's robes from Assassin's Creed Syndicate and the Mercenary Helmet worn by Kassandra in Odyssey.
