We also saw the release of Pokémon Champions, which, despite its launch issues, could become a franchise cornerstone.

It's not just the big-name developers out there with anticipated releases. Against all odds, MOUSE: P.I. For Hire Review exceeds the hype. There's another indie darling that's releasing today: REPLACED, from Sad Cat Studios.

We liked what we saw with the game during a hands-on preview back in February. Now that the game's out, the sentiment is that REPLACED is a cinematic masterpiece. Our sister site, TheGamer, said that "anyone who plays Replaced is going to have an enlightening experience." The positive word-of-mouth reception isn't a surprise to the game's publishers, though.

Atari Was Confident That People Would Love REPLACED

During some hands-on time of my own with REPLACED at PAX East, I had the chance to chat with David Lowey, a Sr. Director of Sales and Marketing for Atari. He's been working closely with Sad Cat and the Thunderful Group, an Atari subsidiary that is handling the publishing for REPLACED.

There was a recurring theme during my time at the Atari booth: people kept stopping to watch REPLACED in action. It received several awards from other media outlets during my time playing the game. It was clearly the talk of the show, but Lowey wasn't surprised by this.

He told me that the team had "a lot of confidence that people would respond well. We're really excited. I think it's going to do great."

One thing that stood out to me was that, despite the brand power within the Atari booth, notably from Bubsy 4D and Jay and Silent Bob: Chronic Blunt Punch, REPLACED seemed to be getting all the attention. Based on the early response today after release, which echoes the positive buzz from the PAX East show floor, that confidence seems well-placed.
