Tutorials, accessibility features, and simple modes like T-ball make it the perfect intro to both baseball and gaming, while competitive modes give experienced players the chance to bunt, steal, and grind their way to victory. Gameplay feels much more streamlined and less clunky. Switching fielders and stealing bases can be a bit finicky at times—it sometimes feels like the correct player was selected, but Backyard Baseball doesn’t register it. Aside from that, there aren’t many noticeable downsides. Diving is a great addition to fielding, and the meter for special pitches and hits gives a much clearer sense of progress. The roulette mechanic also makes it feel like there’s more control over the rewards you receive. If you even remotely enjoy baseball games or arcade-style titles like Slugfest or World Series Baseball, this is an easy recommendation.
