As a huge Baldur’s Gate 3 fan, I have to confess that I absolutely love that time of the year when Larian Studios treats us to a new batch of player statistics. Why? Because, let's be honest, they consistently deliver some of the most hilarious, chaotic, and downright bizarre data in modern RPG history.

Whether revealing how many hours we spent tweaking our characters in creation or how many of us accidentally turned into a wheel of cheese and rolled away, these infographics always offer a fascinating mirror into the collective psyche of the community – and thankfully, they have done it again!

Larian has just dropped a brand-new wave of stats on X (formerly Twitter), exposing our most questionable weapon choices, our weirdest gaming habits, and the terrifying body count we’ve left across the Sword Coast. Get ready, because some of these numbers prove that a lot of you are absolute monsters.

The Most-Killed NPCs and the Dark Urge Excuses

Whether you explicitly chose violence or hide behind the excuse of a tragic “accident,” certain NPCs just couldn’t catch a break in your playthroughs.

Sitting comfortably at the top of the casualty list is Zevlor with a staggering 12.31 million deaths, followed closely by Rolan at 8.62 million and Isobel at 7.20 million. Even poor Volo met his demise 4.62 million times, leaving Larian just as confused as the rest of us as they noted: “Not sure what Volo did to you all to deserve this.” Though to be fair, letting an eccentric bard stick an ice pick into your eye socket isn't exactly a high-probability survival strategy.

Then there is Barcus Wroot, who died 2.66 million times. The dev team even explicitly highlighted in the fine print that 2.1 million of those deaths came from players who "accidentally" launched him straight off a windmill in the Blighted Village. Sure, guys. "Accidentally."

Even poor Volo met his demise 4.62 million times, leaving Larian just as confused as the rest of us as they noted: “Not sure what Volo did to you all to deserve this.”

What makes these body counts even wilder is the Dark Urge breakdown. While you would naturally expect the violent Bhaalspawn to take the blame for most of the carnage, the stats reveal that more non-Dark Urge players managed to murder Alfira than actual Dark Urge runs (where she accounts for 48% of her 2.62 million total deaths). While Isobel led the Dark Urge hit list at 62%, for everyone else, maybe it’s time to stop pointing fingers at Bhaal and admit you just wanted her loot!

When we move further down the list of statistics, the community's gear choices range from elite legendary weapons to pure insanity. To face the Absolute, 33.4 million players relied on the legendary bow Gontr Mael, while millions of others opted for Balduran's Giantslayer or the Staff of the Emperor. However, Larian also gave a shout-out to the few brave (or should I say completely unhinged) adventurers who decided to tackle the final boss battle wielding literal salami, proving that a solid charcuterie board is technically a viable endgame strategy.

Other weapon stats were equally hilarious: inside the Crèche, the Nut-Buster stone was used as a weapon in exactly 2 combats (I would give anything to watch those footage captures), while the rusty Poo-Scraper dagger was willingly brought into battle 4 times across Act 3.

Oh, and if players weren't fighting with rusty excavation tools, they were probably drunk. Larian also revealed that getting the entire party hammered before entering combat was a go-to strategy, especially in the Shadow-Cursed Lands and the Lower City. In fact, 34,204 players went into the final Netherbrain fight completely wasted while equipping the Punch-Drunk Bastard greatclub.

The rest of the stats paint a picture of total, unadulterated player chaos. Less than 1% of players managed to hoard around 180,000 gold in a single run, while another 1% spent over 120,000 gold. Meanwhile, 114 players decided that playing in a 1:1 square aspect ratio was the peak visual experience, while 9,008 players played the entire grand RPG in vertical 9:16 portrait mode – which Larian simply described as "kinda weird, but not judging."

With over 500 million mod downloads and 13,000 mods uploaded across PC and consoles, the Baldur's Gate 3 community shows zero signs of slowing down. But whether you're launching gnomes off windmills or beating the final boss with a sausage, seeing these numbers kind of makes us all want to jump back in and start yet another playthrough tonight, am I right?
