It has been a long and exciting road for Bellwright since its Early Access release in April 2024, with the game becoming one of the most well-received medieval-themed games on Steam.

However, much like your story doesn't end after a single action in the game, the development of Bellwright is far from done despite its release.

The next step in the game's road is the major Maiden Voyage update on December 9, which adds a huge new map and an all-new addition to the game's story, and implements full controller support.

From Rags to Riches in Karvenia and Beyond

Bellwright came out in 2024 in a tough market largely dominated by Valheim and Medieval Dynasty. Despite the stiff competition, the Donkey Crew title managed to win over plenty of players thanks to its smooth gameplay and beautiful graphics.

With the “Maiden Voyage” update, players will have much more than just a big map to look at.

The Halmare Isles map includes a network of caves that bring some verticality to the game. On top of animals available on Karvenia, you will also get to see new birds, fish, and goats.

At a bigger scale, the update brings a new Faction system that requires you to weigh your actions and commitments against your strategic goals.

Since Bellwright leans heavily on raids, the update has also added new means to defend yourself, with an all-new fortification system that lets you build walls around your camps. With the right design, you can then funnel enemies into kill zones and mow them down, but don't think the AI hasn't also wised-up to this new feature!

The logistics layer has also gotten fairly deeper thanks to the caravan system. Moving goods is no longer a simple A-to-B transfer and will require some work to protect and defend against ambushes. This also means you can raid enemy supply lines and cripple their logistics ahead of major confrontations.

While Bellwright veterans can enjoy some more fresh content with the patch, this is also the perfect time for newcomers to give it a shot here. The game has a 34% sale running from now to January 5th, just shy of $20 on Steam.
