As you make your way through the game's introduction, you will create your character. During this process, you will be making many choices, with one of them being what belongings you want your character to start the game with.

There are eight different belongings to choose from. Of these belongings, you will only get to keep three of them, so you will want to choose wisely and not just pick them at random.

The following belongings are available:

Sacred Flame Charm	+10% physical defense and +10% elemental defense.
Letter Fragment	This letter cannot be deciphered. A kitten gave it to you when you were young.
Ratatouille	A healthy meal for your party. Consume it to grant your party +20% elemental defense, +15 % physical defense, and +15% fire/ice/lightning/wind resistance for 15 turns.
Fighter's Wristband	+10% physical attack.
Nourishing Nut (M)	Greatly increases maximum HP.
Crested Key	A vague key item that has a crest of a dagger on it. It states that a certain warrior may value it.
Embershroom Bed	A bed of mushrooms that can be maintained to yield a harvest of mushrooms while building your home.

As you can see, each of these items is useful, but there are some that are obviously more useful than others. Some of the items are also left intentionally vague, preventing you from knowing their true purpose until later in the game.

Octopath Traveler 0 Best Belongings Choices Crested Key

The three belongings I would recommend grabbing from the start are one of the charms, the Nourishing Nut, and the Letter Fragment or Crested Key. Let's break down why these choices are the best.

For starters, the charms are dependent on what type of class you wish to play. For instance, if you want to start as a Scholar, you will want to take the Promise Charm, as this will increase your elemental attack.

If you would rather be more of a physical fighter, I recommend taking the Fighter's Wristband. The best choice, in my opinion, is the Sacred Flame Charm, as this will give you a good boost to your defenses, which is very valuable early in the game, and will allow you to fight tougher foes.

Your second choice should be the Nourishing Nut, as this will give you a good increase to your character's maximum HP, allowing you to take more hits in combat.

Finally, I recommend grabbing the Crested Key, as there are eight of them in total, with each of them opening a chest with a legendary item. The letter is also nice, but it can be obtained mid-game, making it not the most important choice.
