Ethan Krieger (He/Him) is an editor at DualShockers that got started in the writing industry by covering professional basketball for a sports network. Despite being a diehard sports fan (mainly formula one, basketball, American football, and golf), video games have always been his #1 interest.
For many of us in the Northern Hemisphere, all you really want to do is stay huddled up indoors to escape the frigid temperatures out in the real world. Sure, the holidays have passed, but that doesn't mean we're out of the winter woods yet.
In fact, at the time of writing, I'm looking at 12 inches of snow outside my window and a temperature of 0 degrees, which means I don't plan on going anywhere for at least a couple of days. It's times like these when finding some sort of fun activity to stave off the cabin fever can come in handy.
Video games, and co-op ones in particular, are a great way to spend the winter months if you have some good playing partners to coordinate with. Let's give you and your crew some ideas if you're not currently sure what to play, but are up for some cozy co-op action.
Most of the games below prominently feature snow and winter in their own ways, which I think makes them nice to experience this time of year. Sure, maybe all you want to be thinking about right now is a nice, warm beach, but it's also nice to relate to the on-screen action too.
10 ARC Raiders
Survive the Cold Snap
If you act quickly, the mega-popular extraction shooter ARC Raiders is still running Cold Snap events, which transform the maps of the game into winter wonderlands. This only runs through January 2026 as it stands, so there's also a chance you've missed it at this point.
Either way, it doesn't really matter. ARC Raiders took the world by storm in 2025 and continues to keep a hold on the multiplayer shooter space. While I don't typically count multiplayer games as "co-op" in the way the genre is typically talked about, ARC Raiders still fits the bill with the squad-based gameplay.
Go topside with your buddies and get lost in the action. Before you know it, the flowers will be blooming outside again.
9 Monster Hunter World
Iceborne is Especially Relevant
No, it's not the most recent entry into the Monster Hunter franchise, but World still has just as large of a player-base and is frankly much more well-received at this point as well. Yeah, you can play the game solo, but the true fun comes with squadding up with a friend or two in order to take down some hulking beasts.
Plus, the Iceborne DLC is great, and obviously completely fits the mood of the winter season. This add-on essentially doubled the amount of content in the game, so you've got plenty to keep yourself busy with during the rest of the cold months with this one.
8 Don't Starve Together
Stock Up on Milk and Eggs
Don't Starve flew a bit under a lot of peoples' radars despite being a unique, visually striking survival game. Luckily, the team decided to go the co-op route with the sequel, Don't Starve Together, which seems to have worked tremendously well.
The Tim Burton-esque visuals are still on full display, and the game is improved in pretty much every regard, now fully playable with up to six players by default, though there are ways to up that number substantially as well.
Survive the harsh winter season with your friends as you also simply fight to stay alive in Don't Starve Together.
7 Baldur's Gate 3
No Better Time to Dive in Headfirst
Baldur's Gate 3 is actually the only game on this entire list that doesn't feature a dedicated snow area in any capacity. For a title as deep and sprawling as BG3, that's pretty surprising.
Still, if you are looking for a game that's excellent as a co-op experience that you can get completely absorbed in for the rest of winter, BG3 is the one. There are so many ways to play, stories to uncover, and quests to uncover in whichever way you prefer.
It's absolutely not the most accessible of co-op games out there, but if you can find someone willing to invest and learn alongside you, it's quite possibly the most rewarding.
6 PEAK
It's the Climb
Call it Friend Slop at your own peril, because PEAK is a ton of fun. On the one hand, it can be a great game to get you out of the winter mindset as you and your crew fly out of an airport for a vacation before crash landing on a lovely beach.
On the other hand, the game has also had winter-themed content added into it, so you can get your fill of hilariously climbing up treacherous, slippery, snowy mountains if that's what you're looking for too.
Whatever you choose, you're in for a great time with PEAK consistently. The proximity chat makes the game shine, and it's simply jam-packed with endless clip-worthy moments that you'll look back fondly on for a long time once you're finally done with a session.
5 Split Fiction
Lost in a Good Book
Quite easily one of the select few best co-op titles of 2025, Split Fiction is a treat from start to finish, as long as you have a playing partner that can handle the action. Though it has some difficulty assists, it's full of several challenging, yet truly engaging sections of both combat and platforming.
There's not much better than curling up with a good book when the weather is bad, except for maybe a co-op video game where you get trapped inside the stories of a couple of aspiring writers. The game is endlessly creative and a nonstop parade of surprises.
Plus, there are more than a few winter-themed sections, including the Ice King's Castle and even an SSX Tricky-inspired snowboarding sequence.
4 Overcooked! 2
I Need a Hot Chocolate STAT
If you play co-op games, then Overcooked! 1 and 2 are more than likely games you've either already played, or at least have in the backlog. The winter months are arguably the best time for these two games, especially thanks to the winter/Christmas-themed content that's been added in, featuring reindeer chefs, hot chocolate, and roast dinners.
While the game looks adorable and cozy on the outside, those in the know will tell you that Overcooked! is not afraid to turn up the heat, and do so quickly.
Make sure your partner/team knows how to communicate, because running a kitchen in Overcooked! and serving your customers really is the definition of cooperation in video game form. Yes, chef!
3 LEGO Voyagers
A Cozy Coming-of-Age
Another absolute banger from 2025, LEGO Voyagers deserved a lot more attention than it ultimately got. It's another two-player-only co-op experience, and you'll want to make sure you experience it alongside someone that's willing to go on a bit of an emotional journey with you.
Being published by Annapurna, known indie movie studio, should clue you in the LEGO Voyagers is going to be a bit more artsy, abstract, and occasionally heavy-hitting than you'd expect from a LEGO game. It's also full of creative and fun platforming, which kept a smile on my face nonstop.
Without getting into any heavy spoilers, Voyagers is a game about growing up, and it's done beautifully well. Have a box of tissues for you and your partner on standby for this short, but incredibly sweet experience.
2 It Takes Two
Winter Wonderland
What can be said about It Takes Two that hasn't already been written about to death? There's a reason this one won Game of the Year. And even if you've played it before, winter is the perfect time to run it back if you never have.
A huge reason for this is because May and Cody play so differently from one another, so you can have an entire second playthrough of the game and get a totally different experience.
The Snow Globe section of the game is also one of the coolest sections of any co-op game ever, making It Takes Two perfect for the winter season.
1 Stardew Valley
Get Those Snow Yams
When I think of good winter games, the ones that really stand out above the rest are titles that you can sink hours upon hours into so that you can hunker down until the world starts to thaw back out. Stardew Valley is perfect for this.
This life/farming game is ridiculously famous at this point. You inherit a farm in a small town away from the hustle and bustle of the city, and the rest is pretty much up to you. Farm, chat with the neighbors, do some dungeon crawling; whatever you want.
Stardew wasn't always a co-op experience, but it's been added in now, which makes the game feel even more open and endless. This is one you can truly get lost in as the seasons roll along, but in the game and IRL.
