Elden Ring is known for a lot of things, with some notable aspects of the game being its many bosses, grand open world, and large amount of equipment. Throughout the game, you will find various weapons and armors that will aid you on your journey of becoming the Elden Lord.

Get these early and trivialise the opening hours.

The DLC for Elden Ring, titled Shadow of the Erdtree, introduced even more items to the game. However, we are going to focus on the over 100 weapons that were added.

Many of these weapons stand out for their unique animations, cool designs, and raw damage potential, but we want to determine which of these are the best, and which ones you should be carrying around.

10 Backhand Blade

Strike From Behind

Elden Ring Backhand Blade
  • How to Get: Found beside a coffin to the northeast of the Scorched Ruins Site of Grace

Backhand Blades are new to Elden Ring and Souls games, and they may be here to stay in future titles, since everyone can agree the standard Backhand Blade is a rather strong weapon in the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC.

Not only does this weapon feature fast attacks and strong dexterity and strength scaling, it also has a rather tricky weapon art that sets it apart from other weapons. Another notable feature of this weapon is that it has strong scaling with almost any infusion, making it a solid choice all around.

The weapon art, however, is called Blind Spot, and it allows you to quickly jump to the side before jumping in close to the enemy. This is a great move for dodging attacks, allowing you to quickly get behind enemies to punish them. It is also a great method of closing the distance if you are a bit far from someone.

9 Carian Thrusting Shield

Block While Attacking

Elden Ring Carian Thrusting Shield
  • How to Get: In a room with some fire knights near the Storehouse, Back Section Site of Grace

The Carian Thrusting Shield is one of two thrusting shields added to Elden Ring, and they represent a new weapon type for the Soulsborne series. The key mechanic of this weapon is that you can block and attack with it at the same time.

This capability allows you to keep yourself safe from many attacks while you punish foes who dare stand against you. It basically puts the game in easy mode, especially if you put a bleed infusion on it.

With a bleed infusion, you can keep yourself safe while consistently applying bleed procs on your opponent, taking down their health while you barely get touched.

No Weapon, No Problem

Elden Ring Dane's Footwork Pickup
  • How to Get: Found on Dryleaf Dane's body after the Leda boss fight

Do you have a dream of kicking your foes into oblivion? Well, your wish can finally come true thanks to the Dane's Footwork weapon added in the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC.

Rather than actually wielding an armament, Dane's Footwork turns your body into a weapon, allowing you to swing your feet and fists wildly at foes. The speed of the attacks is fantastic, and you can break their stance very quickly with this weapon.

While the base weapon art is okay, it is preferred to change it, as this will make the weapon even greater. Applying bleed can decimate foes because of the weapon's attack speed. Also, the Dryleaf Whirlwind will allow you to perform a series of kicks with increased range.

7 Dragon-Hunter's Great Katana

Peak Aura

Elden Ring Dragon Hunter Great Katana Inventory
  • How to Get: Dropped by the Ancient Dragon-Man in Dragon's Pit

Another new class of weapon that was added to Elden Ring with the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC is Great Katana. As you might have guessed, these weapons are like normal katanas, only much bigger.

Among these is the Dragon-Hunter's Great Katana — a truly deadly weapon when wielded correctly. Overall, this weapon is very powerful, with equal strength and dexterity scaling, making it great for a quality build.

The weapon art, however, will hit like a truck. It is called Dragonwound Slash, and it allows you to perform a leaping slash that can cut down even the fiercest of dragons. When charged, the aura around the weapon fires off, creating a projectile. Finally, a blade other than the Dark Moon Greatsword has a good ranged option.

6 Death Knight's Twin Axes

Paired Destruction

Elden Ring Death Knight Twin Axes Pickup
  • How to Get: Defeat the Death Knight boss in the Fog Rift Catacombs

I'm not usually one for axes, but the Death Knight's Twin Axes are an exception to that. With solid scaling in strength and faith, this weapon can help you craft a solid incantation build with a lightning affinity.

The weapon(s) deal lightning damage, and have a decent attack speed that will keep the pressure on enemies. Along with this, you have access to the Blinkbolt: Twinaxe weapon art.

This weapon art allows you to jump forward to quickly close the distance between you and an enemy. You can then follow it up with a barrage of lightning attacks that deal decent poise damage and can quickly down a foe.

5 Euporia

Holy Comet Azur

Elden Ring Euporia using weapon art
  • How to Get: Hidden along a secret path in Belurat Tower Settlement

Have you ever tried out the Comet Azur spell? If so, you have probably seen how it can melt bosses when performed correctly. It is a shame that there isn't a holy version... wait. There is a holy version, but it comes in the form of a weapon art on Euporia.

Euporia is one of two twinblades added to Elden Ring with the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, but it is also one of the best weapons in the DLC. It has a nice attack pattern that follows most of the other twinblades, but its true power lies in its weapon skill called Euporia Vortex.

The weapon art spins the weapon around in front of you. This doesn't sound special until you increase the weapon's luster. As you attack enemies, the weapon will begin to illuminate. When it's at its peak illumination, using the weapon art will cause the blade to spin, unleashing a Comet Azur effect in front of it as well, dealing tons of damage to those caught in it.

4 Ancient Meteoric Ore Greatsword

A Blinding Flash

Elden Ring Ancient Meteoric Ore Greatsword Pickup
  • How to Get: Examine the altar at Ruined Forge Starfall Past

The Ancient Meteoric Ore Greatsword is a beefy sword. Coming in at 22.0 on the weight scale, it is one of the heaviest weapons in the game, but that also means it hits like a truck, and you can swing it around surprisingly fast.

While the standard attacks will hit hard, the true power of this weapon lies in its weapon art, which will send you flying at enemies. This weapon art is called White Light Charge, and it will launch you forward at a fast pace, impaling enemies caught in the path.

You can then perform standard attacks afterward, or use a follow-up input to stab with the blade a second time, creating a massive white flash, and dealing additional damage in an AOE around you. This attack also deals major poise damage.

3 Star-Lined Sword

Seeing Stars

Elden Ring Star Lined Sword in Inventory
  • How to Get: Dropped by Demi-Human Queen Marigga

It is no secret that katanas can be a bit overpowered in Elden Ring. After all, you have weapons like Rivers of Blood that can decimate foes with bleed damage. Well, there is another amazing katana to add to the list, and that is the Star-Lined Sword.

This weapon can be swung very quickly, making it already a lethal force, but it shines with its unique weapon art called Onze's Line of Stars. The weapon art extends the length of the katana through the addition of magic, and makes it so you perform various slash attacks.

You can perform more attacks with repeated button presses, allowing you to deal a large amount of damage to those caught in it. The extra attacks also deal greater damage.

2 Sword of Night

Darkness Slash

Elden Ring Sword of Night
  • Complete the questline of Count Ymir. Give Jolan an Iris of Occultation

If you thought we were done with katanas, you'd be wrong, as the Sword of Night is also a very deadly weapon that needs to be on this list. This pitch-black blade is imbued with the power of darkness, and it shows through its fast attacks and even deadlier weapon art.

Remember the waterfowl dance that you can perform with Malenia's katana? Well, the Sword of Night has the Witching Hour Slash. A similar move that unleashes a series of slashes around your character, but the main difference is that these slashes cannot be blocked.

That's right, this weapon's ability ignores blocking. In addition to this, the standard attacks from the weapon ignore 50% damage negation from blocks, and it is the only katana that has this passive trait.

1 Rellana's Twin Blades

Fire and Magic

Elden Ring Rellana's Twin Blade
  • How to Get: Obtained from Enia after giving her the Remembrance of Rellana, Twin Moon Knight

If you have played through the base game, you may remember picking up the Sword of Night and Flame. This sword, found in Caria Manor, has an ability that allows you to use both a magic attack and a fire attack.

Well, Rellana's Twin Blades are similar to this weapon, but split into two light greatswords that you can dual wield. When one-handing this weapon, you have access to a light greatsword that deals magic damage. When two-handing, you pull out the second sword that does fire damage, allowing you to unleash an onslaught of damage types.

The weapon art allows you to pull out both blades, and depending on the follow-up button press, you will either perform a magic attack or a sweeping fire attack. It is an amazing weapon that you shouldn't pass up.
