The line of PlayStation home consoles is one of the most popular and successful video game systems ever made and while the PlayStation 2 is still the best-selling console of all time, the PlayStation 4 is close behind with over 117 million units sold.

For players who want to explore, but not be overwhelmed by a world larger than the story.

Over the PS4's 12-year-long existence, many games launched on the system bringing countless exceptional but brief adventures, while others introduced gameplay and narratives that could be replayed seemingly endlessly.

For these latter games, their replay value is often determined by the amount of features available, how large their worlds are, how many different endings, side missions, or scenarios are available, or simply how engaging their gameplay and stories are.

10 Monster Hunter World

Fighting Monsters in a New World

Group Attacking a Giant Dragon Creature in Monster Hunter World

2018's Monster Hunter World is one of the most popular multiplayer games of not just Capcom's history but of the entire eighth console generation as it went on to sell over 29 million copies.

This success is largely due to the titular New World Monster Hunter World is based in, as it's filled with a wide variety of dynamic ecosystems and titanic creatures, from the T-Rex-like Anjanath to the bull/dragon-like Behemoth.

What makes Monster Hunter World have high replay value is the many ways players can explore the New World and take down its monstrous inhabitants, as well as the ways players can customize their armor and Palico, cook food, upgrade weapons, and more.

For example, in one playthrough, a player could specialize in taking down monsters solo with hammers, while another playthrough could have the player specialize in using bows to support their four-man team of Monster Hunters.

9 God of War

Kratos and Atreus' Incredible Familial Journey

Kratos and Atreus overlooking a cliff (God of War 2018)

One of the best games to release exclusively for the PS4 was 2018's God of War, which not only rejuvenated the GOW franchise after a five-year-long absence, but elevated the series' storytelling and cinematic quality with a new over-the-shoulder third-person view.

Set years after the destruction of Olympus in God of War 3, 2018's God of War sees Kratos deal with the many realms, creatures, and gods of Norse mythology as he and his son Atreus journey throughout the realms to spread his late wife's ashes.

Unlike previous GOW titles, God of War (2018) is more open, allowing players to freely explore Midgard, Alfheim, Nilfheim, Muspelheim, and Hel both by foot and by boat as they complete the main quest to take part in side missions, collect treasure, or complete trials.

Beyond the many realms and activities of God of War, its narrative is just so emotionally engrossing and perfectly composed that it makes players such as myself replay it dozens of times to see Kratos and Atreus bond together, make friends, and overcome the threat of Baldur.

8 Resident Evil 2

A Return to Raccoon City

Leon encoutners a group of zombies in Resident Evil 2 (2019)

Of all the Resident Evil games released over the years, the original Resident Evil 2 was arguably the one with the most replay value thanks to its different Scenarios based on whether Leon Kennedy or Claire Redfield were played first.

In 2019, Capcom expanded upon Leon and Claire's harrowing Raccoon City adventure through the Resident Evil 2 remake, which retained the original's multiple scenarios and 4th Survivor and Tofu Survivor bonus modes with additional new features.

For example, the remake introduced four new bonus modes with The Ghost Survivors, allowing gamers to play through alternate scenarios of Robert Kendo, Katherine Warren, Ghost, and Sheriff Daniel Cortini surviving the night against more dangerous types of zombies.

There are endless ways to replay Leon and Claire's story in the remake, aside from the alternate Scenarios, such as the Assisted Standard, and Hardcore difficulty modes, which alter the number of items found in the city and the way to save the game.

7 Red Dead Redemption 2

Arthur Morgan's Western Tale

Red Dead Redemption 2 Player Manages To Run The Game On An Android Phone

2018 was a plentiful year for video games with high replay value to debut on the PS4 and one of the best games to release that year that is still replayed by millions of gamers to this day is Rockstar Games' Red Dead Redemption 2.

Set primarily in 1899's western United States, RDR2 follows Arthur Morgan as he and Van der Linde gang struggle to survive against rival gangs and encroaching government agencies as the Wild West continues to disappear.

RDR2 is home to a massive open world filled with endless activities to do separate from the main storyline, such as bounty hunting, hunting animals, fishing, robbing townsfolk, rescuing civilians, customizing outfits and weapons, and more.

The world of RDR2 is so vast and filled with numerous side missions and alternate ways to interact with people that multiple playthroughs are required for players to experience absolutely everything the game has to offer.

6 Hitman 2

Infinite Forms of Assassination

The Hitman series is famous for the multiple ways players can control Agent 47 to stealthily or publicly take out targets and Hitman 2 is filled with infinite ways to assassinate people.

For example, on the mission The Finish Line, players could have Agent 47 disguise himself as a Flamingo mascot to meet with Sierra Knox and take her out in an alley while Robert Knox could be drowned in a toilet.

Alternatively, players can sabotage a satellite uplink to get Robert out in the open, only to have Agent 47 kick him onto the racetrack and cause Sierra's racecar to crash, killing both of them.

Players could also have Agent 47 dress up as a clown and beat everyone with a fish, but the point is that Hitman 2 has tremendous replay value due to the endless number of ways players can take out their targets.

5 The Outer Worlds

Fallout In Space

The Outer Worlds

Obsidian Entertainment is well-known for making some of the greatest RPGs of all time, from Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords to Fallout: New Vegas, and one of the best RPGs released on the PS4 was The Outer Worlds.

In some ways, The Outer Worlds is Fallout's space-faring successor, as the 2019 game was created by Fallout creators Tim Cain and Leonard Boyarsky and features similar action and branching dialogue mechanics to the post-apocalyptic series.

However, The Outer Worlds is arguably a bit more complex than modern Fallout titles, as the Stranger's attributes and skills can be balanced out with two companions to join them in a party, while companions' perks can additionally be modified and upgraded.

This makes replaying through The Outer Worlds with different attributes and skills builds a ton of fun on top of the countless side missions to complete and numerous factions to align with.

4 The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

Geralt's Final Leading Adventure

Open World Games So Gigantic Youll Still Be Discovering Secrets in 2026 The Witcher 3

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is one of those third entries in a trilogy that nails every aspect of its visuals, gameplay, story, and side content that makes it one of the best RPGs to play on the PS4.

What makes replaying through The Witcher 3 so fun isn't necessarily retreading through Geralt's main questline of finding Ciri and the several endings that can follow, but rather exploring The Witcher's vast world and completing its meaty side quests.

These side quests may be optional, but they can impact and alter NPC relationships and the environment in drastic ways based on Geralt's decisions.

Every playthrough of The Witcher 3 will be different because of these possibilities and despite the game being over 10 years old at this point, there haven't been many RPG released since that have come close to The Witcher 3's expansive world and versatility.

3 Detroit: Become Human

The Many Outcomes of an Android Revolution

Quantic Dream is famous for developing well-written, cinematic games centered around third-person quick-time events, dialogue choices, and split-second decisions, with their latest game Detroit: Become Human being a perfect showcase of all of these features.

Set in the near future of 2038 where human-like androids have been used as servants, police, medical staff and more, Detroit follows three androids, Kara, Connor, and Markus, as they struggle with their programming and a drive for independence.

Each of the androids' stories impact each other, with one decision Connor makes potentially negatively or positively affecting Kara and Markus' story, making multiple playthrough necessary to discover every possible outcome.

Striving to witness every ending in Detroit is a ton of fun as it's not only amazing to see how these androids tackle their dilemma of sentience in a world bearing down upon them, but it's interesting to see where their paths take them as either runaways, revolutionaries, or continued servants.

2 Until Dawn

The Horror of Blackwood Mountain

Until Dawn Remaster Killer In Mask

One of the best games to launch exclusively on the PS4 that has a ton of replay value is Supermassive Games' love letter to slasher horror, Until Dawn.

An interactive drama survival horror game, Until Dawn centers around a group of young adults as they reunite at their friend Josh Washington's lodge at Blackwood Mountain a year after Josh's sisters disappeared, only to find new and old horrors awaiting them.

What makes Until Dawn have high replay value is its butterfly effect system, which causes virtually every decision, from picking up totems to jumping at the wrong moment to impact the fate of every character.

It's highly difficult to have everyone survive until dawn, but that is what makes playing through Until Dawn multiple times a ton of fun, not to just try to save everyone but to try and see in what ways everyone can die in horrific ways that slasher stories are best known for.

1 Bloodborne

An Endless Hunt

Bloodborne Is Getting A New Release But Its Not What Youre Thinking

Without a doubt, FromSoftware's Bloodborne is one of the greatest games to ever launch exclusively for the PS4 thanks to how it perfectly elevates the combat and world design of Dark Souls into Gothic, Lovecraftian Victorian-era horror.

Much like Dark Souls, players can customize their Hunter to their liking with distinct stats, but unlike Dark Souls, only five weapons are available to start with, including the Saw Cleaver, Hunter Axe, Threaded Cane, Hunter Pistol, and Hunter Blunderbuss.

These beginning options already provide Bloodborne with ample replay value, but there are many other ways playthrough can differentiate between each other, such as optional ways to interact with bosses and NPCs as well as multiple endings.

For instance, in one run, players could just fight Father Gascoigne like any normal boss, but in another playthrough, players can use his daughter's Tiny Music Box to temporarily stop him from attacking during the boss fight.
