One of the biggest names in the FPS genre, Call of Duty, has had its fair share of ups and downs since the first game launched over two decades ago, and while some games didn't hit the mark, we can't deny the impact COD has had on the gaming industry.
Call of Duty Admits Defeat and Changes Release Structure After Black Ops 7
The developers of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 have released a statement promising to do better in future entries and to shift away from annual releases.
Now, the series has its sights set on delivering the next addition to Modern Warfare, as developer Infinity Ward has revealed they have begun development, and they appear to be setting the bar extremely high.
Infinity Ward Says They Are Making the 'Definitive Modern Warfare'
Over the years, we've seen Call of Duty try its hand at basically every type of gameplay that makes sense for an FPS game. If you're looking for a battle royale, COD has Warzone. If it's extraction you're after, they have DMZ. If you want to fight a never-ending horde of zombies, head over to Black Ops. But if you really have the urge for full-out military realism, you can dress up as Nicki Minaj or Seth Rogen.
Call of Duty Modern Warfare games are known for giving FPS fans a well-rounded experience, comprised of exhilarating campaign missions, fast-paced multiplayer PVP modes such as deathmatch or headquarters, and co-op modes to let friends complete missions together, but these games have also had some turbulent spots along the way.
One of the biggest gripes COD players tend to have comes from issues in multiplayer modes that create unfair and infuriating situations in the midst of competing with other players. Bad spawn points, or poorly designed maps that make camping the most efficient way to claim victory, can easily turn a great game into a frustrating experience that you need to walk away from, and we saw these problems occurring in Modern Warfare 2.

While we're still waiting for an official reveal trailer to give us a closer look, Infinity Ward says this will be the definitive Modern Warfare: "As a new chapter begins for this studio, we're focused on what defines us: passion, precision, obsession, and an unrelenting drive to make the best entertainment in the industry. Our next game is the result of that mindset."
So, when can we expect to see more about the new Call of Duty Modern Warfare? We can't say with certainty at this time, but one possibility for an official reveal could be the Xbox Games Showcase, which takes place on June 7th.
