Covering the video games industry since 2017, with experience in news, articles, lists, and reviews (and I blame The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask for that).
If you are a fan of RPGs and want a third-person version: Tayná Garcia is a Brazilian journalist (but you can call her Tay) who ended up working with video games after finishing Zelda: Majora's Mask when she was a kid. With more than eight years of experience in the segment, she has been an assistant editor at Jovem Nerd in the past and is currently a contributor at DualShockers and a writer for gaming magazines for Editora Europa. Oh, and she may like Hideo Kojima a bit too much.
Rumor has it that simply hearing the words “live-service,” “multiplayer,” or Umbrella Corps is enough to give a Resident Evil fan nightmares for a week – and it turns out Requiem almost gave them another reason to lose sleep. Luckily for us, though, that didn’t happen!
That’s because Koshi Nakanishi, the director of Capcom’s latest hit, revealed in a recent, supplementary video on the official Resident Evil portal that the team experimented with ideas like online co-op and even an open-world setting for Resident Evil Requiem early in development.

“Things like an online Resident Evil or an open-world Resident Evil, which we spent some time experimenting with,” Nakanishi explained, while fans everywhere likely felt a collective shiver without even knowing why at the time.
Fortunately, the developers took a step back to consider what the fan community truly wanted, ultimately concluding that a classic single-player experience was the way to go. “In the end, although we had some interesting concepts, we realized that it wasn't what fans wanted to see or play. So we went back to the drawing board,” he added.

A Return to Roots that Paid Off, Apparently
The decision by Nakanishi and his team to keep the franchise close to its survival horror roots has certainly proven correct, as Resident Evil Requiem has garnered immense critical acclaim around the world, boasting an average score of 90 with a 96% recommendation rate on OpenCritic.
The team experimented with ideas like online co-op and even an open-world setting for Resident Evil Requiem early in development.
Beyond the critical reception, the game is also a commercial juggernaut at this point! It has shattered launch records on Steam and officially become the series’ fastest-selling title ever, outpacing both the Resident Evil 4 remake and Resident Evil Village.
In our own coverage, we also noted the same high-quality experience by writing that “Resident Evil Requiem is everything that Resident Evil fans could want out of the next entry in the series and more.” You can check out our full review right here!
