Fans of Tatsuki Fujimoto will be in shock today, as it's just been revealed that part 2 of the Chainsaw Man manga will end in two weeks. A note at the end of chapter 231, published on March 10, announces that part 2 of the manga will conclude on March 24. The manga is published bi-weekly, which means that there is only one more chapter to go.

Part 2 of Chainsaw Man started on July 13, 2022. The second half of Fujimoto's hit manga has been a bit more controversial among fans, with some complaining about the chaotic storylines or the chapters being too short. Despite that, the series is as popular as ever, and the introduction of a new protagonist, Asa, who is the host of the War Devil, did a lot to keep the story fresh.

[Ed. note: Spoilers for chapter 231 of Chainsaw Man.]

Chapter 231 begins with Pochita telling Denji that they have been eaten by a Devil. After assuming his Chainsaw Man form, Pochita tells Denji that the boy is unable to feel complete happiness, even when achieving his dreams. In a chilling line, Pochita says Denji was happier at the start of the story, when he survived by selling his organs and eating spoiled bread. "Turns out you had the crappiest but best kind of brain," Pochita says. "One that can only find heaven when you're in hell." Pochita then proceeds to eat himself, thus erasing the existence of Chainsaw Man from the world due to his power of destroying the Devils that he eats. He wants to give Denji a chance to "keep on dreaming," and the chapter ends with a shot of the same rundown shack where the boy lived at the start of the series.

With only one chapter to go, fans will probably be left with many questions unanswered about the world and lore of Chainsaw Man. Still, this isn't unexpected. Fujimoto is an unconventional mangaka who likes to subvert norms and expectations. His work carries profound emotional weight while masquerading as sometimes absurd shonen fantasy. I'm sure that part 2 of Chainsaw Man can also be truly appreciated only after a second read and without having to wait weeks between chapters.

However, there's still a glimmer of hope. A similar message about the final chapter also appeared at the end of part 1, so Fujimoto may be simply teasing a Chainsaw Man part 3. In any case, we'll have to wait until March 24 to find out.
