Everyone is talking about Crimson Desert these days. When my dog barks at the neighbors, I like to imagine the little guy is communicating his passionate opinions about Pearl Abyss' most ambitious game yet.

However, talking or thinking about Crimson Desert all the time does not mean playing it for most people, unless you are willing to make the superhuman efforts of a certain TioZer0.

The player is the 13th person to platinum Crimson Desert, but what makes their case special is the somewhat unhinged methods used by our sleep-deprived hero.

From Crimson Desert to Crimson Eyes

Let's run some quick numbers here. Crimson Desert came out on March 19th, or 18 days before TioZer0 shared their achievement. The game was available for about 430 hours, from the moment it launched to the post going up.

According to TioZer0, it took a total of 305 hours to hit platinum. In other words, over 18 days, TioZer0 only had 127 hours not spent exploring the depths of Crimson Desert. That adds up to 7 hours per day away from the game.

Some are rare because they're hard, while others are literally unobtainable.

If you are wondering about how little sleep was involved, don't worry: TioZer0 got 8 hours of sleep. The only catch is that this was always done at the end of 56-hour marathons.

TioZer0 would let basic necessities dictate the exact start and end points of a session, so the grind was only interrupted by the need to buy food or shower. Other than that, and a pitiful amount of sleep, it was Crimson Desert all day, every day.

The schedule shocked Pearl Abyss' PR and marketing director, Will Powers, who correctly pointed out 'that's not enough sleep'.

Surprisingly, the player actually enjoyed the experience, except for a 60-hour fishing and bug-catching grind that kept TioZer0 from hitting the finish line earlier.

Over 18 days, TioZer0 only had 127 hours not spent exploring the depths of Crimson Desert.

If you plan to attempt a Crimson Desert platinum, I highly recommend checking through the player's thread for tips on how to avoid getting bottlenecked. TioZer0 estimates it is doable in about 150 hours, though the PSN estimate is around 300 hours, in line with their own numbers.

The saga of the early Crimson Desert platinum is yet another data point in the debate about the game's pacing.

In our review, Christian Bognar put in 122 hours in less than a month to get through the game, which he rated an almost-flawless 9.5/10. Rumor has it he even got to sleep a little bit here and there.

At the same time, the game was on the receiving end of fairly harsh scores, sparking a debate on whether the pacing and scope of Crimson Desert were just too much to review fairly, given the time constraints.

Now, we have someone who blitzed through 305 hours in 18 days and still loved the game.

There's no right way to enjoy Crimson Desert (or to dislike it, if it's not your thing). Just make sure you eat and sleep at least once a day while doing so, and you're bound to have a good time.
