Everyone loves a good comeback story, and a cult classic 2010 strategy game just got one.
R.U.S.E., from developer Eugen Systems and originally published by Ubisoft, is back on Steam. The real-time strategy game was originally pulled in December 2015 due to licensing issues. It was also pulled from the Xbox 360 marketplace in early 2023.
9 Best RTS Games For Beginners
Chaos, strategy, and endless clicks. Learn, adapt, dominate—or crumble spectacularly
Eugen made an official statement celebrating the game's return on its Steam page:
While we developed and launched R.U.S.E. in 2010, the game didn’t officially belong to us. Sidelined due to distribution constraints, we could do nothing in the subsequent years to help the players who contacted us for assistance or tried to obtain the game. Recently, we received the opportunity to return R.U.S.E. to our catalog. This allowed us to re-release this pillar of the RTS genre, with some added extras!
Eugen also confirmed that the game is Steam Deck compatible. Anyone who owned R.U.S.E. before its delisting will not only retain "full access" to the game, but also receive all future updates and DLCs at no additional cost.
RTS Fans Are Thrilled That R.U.S.E. is Back
Almost immediately, fans have expressed their appreciation for the return of the cult-classic RTS. Many are proclaiming that the GOAT of WWII strategy games is back.
At the time of writing, the game has an Overwhelmingly Positive rating on recent Steam reviews. "Seriously can't believe this came back to Steam," said one appreciative fan. "The hoops I had to jump through a few years ago tracking down codes/keys and random physical cds to get this thing on my Steam account."

Real-time strategy, zero real-time panic. These RTS titles prove you can strategize without breaking a sweat.
It brings up an excellent point about the current state of modern game distribution being primarily digital over physical. Recently, Sony came under fire from fans when it appeared that DRM was refusing to let them play digital copies of games they owned. They would later comment on the matter, saying that it was merely a "one-time online check."
That's all fine and dandy, but what happens to fans of games like R.U.S.E. that won't get that happy ending with a relisting? There are so many great games that aren't accessible in the modern era due to not being available online or stuck on older hardware. Here's to hoping the positive reception for R.U.S.E.'s return helps lead the way for others.
