The wait for a second season of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners that follows new characters is almost over

Netflix, Studio Trigger, and CD Projekt Red have finally confirmed that Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2, a follow-up to their critically acclaimed 2022 anime, will be coming out this fall.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 was confirmed last year at Anime Expo, and the series' official social media accounts started teasing it again earlier this week. Over the past few days, new characters have been added to the series' key art. That all culminated on the morning of June 28, when the official Edgerunners account posted the full artwork and confirmed a fall 2026 release window for the anime.

If you watched Edgerunners, you'd know that not many characters made it out alive. As such, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 is following a new cast of characters, introduced over the past week. There's a vengeful Snake Nation Netrunner D, a young cinephile and documentarian named Roman Carax, Maelstrom gang member Taila Yang, and an Edgerunner named Weak Kingsley.

Although this cast will have a hard time becoming as iconic as Lucy and David, I can't wait to see how Studio Trigger tries to top their previous work with Edgerunners 2. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners was truly fantastic, with Polygon's review noting that the show "feels exciting and new enough as it pushes the boundaries of its exciting and hugely inventive visual representation of in-game concepts."

Edgerunners has stayed in the zeitgeist thanks to various crossovers. Not only did references to Edgerunners characters make their way back in Cyberpunk 2077, but Lucy was a guest fighter in Guilty Gear Strive, and a Wuthering Waves collaboration is currently ongoing. We'll see if the next iteration of the show gets similar crossovers with other games and media.

When it finally arrives in fall 2026, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 will stream exclusively on Netflix, like its predecessor.
