Six years on from the initial release of CD Projekt RED's 2020 masterpiece, Cyberpunk 2077, and the game is still going strong. On top of the Phantom Liberty expansion and the numerous multimedia releases such as the Edgerunners anime and the manga comic series, the game also has a thriving modding community who are continually innovating and adding new content.

The genre has made an epic resurgence thanks to mainstream booms like Baldur's Gate 3 and Pillars of Eternity 2.

While some mods offer minor tweaks or immersive improvements, others go the extra mile to implement whole new features which arguably should have been included since release, and others add whole new dimensions to the gameplay which completely change the overall experience. The following mods are the most game-changing for Cyberpunk 2077 which every veteran player should check out.

Modding can lead to damaged game files and corrupt saves and is only recommended for experienced players who know what they are doing. Please take precaution when downloading mods and follow all creator instructions. All mods listed are from NexusMods.com and available on PC only.

10 Eviction Notice

Some of Us Work Best Under Pressure

Cyberpunk 2077 Eviction Notice

If you want the real authentic low-life Night City experience, why not increase the pressure by giving yourself monthly rent and the punishment of eviction if you fail to pay? It might sound like a dumb and counter-productive idea to some, but for those of us who love authentic, immersive mods, Eviction Notice by DarkFortuneTeller is a perfect example of one which can really make a big difference in the early game.

The pressure of having to earn in order to keep your apartment will give you that extra motivation to take on side jobs and perhaps commit petty crime, while later in the game it really feels as though you have moved up in the world when the rent expenditure is hardly a drop in the bucket. While it might not be for everyone, this mod makes a great addition for those looking for a deeper roleplay experience than the game initially provides.

9 Corpo Job at Baskin - WFA Edition

Authentic Adulthood Hell

Cyberpunk 2077 Corpo Baskin

If being faced with the threat of eviction didn't hit home hard enough for you, then why not subject yourself to a soulless, monotonous corpo job routine instead? Corpo Job at Baskin by MrCole allows you to do just that, and it can actually work very well in combination with the Eviction Notice mod. With Corpo Job, you will be able to attend and earn shifts at Baskin Undercover Inc by completing simple tasks at a terminal.

Once you have completed your daily tasks, you will be rewarded with payment and a choice of benefits, including Hardware Upgrades and discounts at Tom's Diner. It can be a nice way to earn some extra cash, particularly in the early game, without having to murder hundreds of people and put yourself in harm's way on behalf of some shady fixer.

8 Taxi Work in Night City

A Cyberpunk Driving Simulator

Cyberpunk 2077 taxi mod

If office work isn't your cup of tea, then perhaps something a little more interactive and outdoors could be up your street. RollermineC's Taxi Work in Night City mod lets you take part in GTA-style taxi missions, allowing you to earn extra cash while also exploring Night City and meeting its diverse range of residents.

There's plenty of goodies to be found if you just look through your scope.

It's a nice change of pace from the usual combat missions such as hunting down Cyberpsychos. This mod lets you rack up a decent income but also lets you just chill while doing so. There is no pressure on you other than to get your passenger to their destination, and while the NPCs aren't exactly the best conversationalists, you do feel more like you're a part of their world.

7 Car Modification Shop

For the Gearheads Out There

Cyberpunk 2077 Car Mod Shop

One feature that is still sorely missing from Cyberpunk 2077 today is the implementation of deep car customization. When you consider that a game like GTA: San Andreas in 2004 had considerably more vehicle customization than Cyberpunk 2077, it becomes obvious that this feature was massively overlooked, and the game suffers slightly as a result — particularly for those of us who like racing and enjoyed the very brief glimpses into Night City's car culture.

With E3rokk's Car Modification Shop, you can at least get much more extensive vehicle customization options, and the difference that the mods make is noticeably right from the get-go. While the majority of mods are 'under the hood', so to speak, you can make massive changes to each vehicle in terms of their handling, acceleration, braking and much more.

6 Nova LUT

A Hyper-Realism Mod Like No Other

Cyberpunk 2077 Nova LUT mod

If you've seen any of the ultra-realistic Cyberpunk 2077 mod clips or compilations anywhere before, the chances are that they were using Nova LUT as part of their modlist. This dramatic reshade aims to provide photorealistic visuals to the game and does so to surprisingly great effect.

The effects are so dramatic that it almost looks like an entirely different game, and even compared to Nvidia's DLSS and DLAA features, this mod gives a much more life-like aesthetic overall. While some of the glamour is stripped away in some respects, Nova LUT provides arguably the most authentic visuals you will find in any game, and looks even better in overcast or rainy conditions.

5 Japanese Voice-Over

The Canon Arasaka Experience

Cyberpunk 2077 Japanese voice mod

One mod that I've particularly been enjoying as of late, particularly since the release of Cyberpunk Edgerunners, is the Japanese V voice-over mod by s0de. It might not seem like much, but actually playing with a Japanese voiceover can make a big difference to the overall atmosphere of the game. As someone who doesn't particularly like voiced protagonists in first person games, this one is an absolute game changer.

These JRPGs throw you straight into the action and immerse you in their respective worlds from the first button-push.

Particularly playing the Corpo path as an Arasaka outcast, the Japanese dialogue can feel even more authentic and actually helps the story as a whole to feel more immersive too. I can imagine this works similarly for a Spanish dub if you play the Street Kid path, though I haven't tried that out just yet.

4 Gangs of Night City

A Livelier and Deadlier Version of Night City

Cyberpunk 2077 gangs of night city

Night City is already a pretty lively place in vanilla Cyberpunk 2077. The city is populated with numerous gangs such as The Mox, Valentinos, Voodoo Boys, and Maelstrom, but the Gangs of Night City mod by dedicated247 breathes new life into how gangs interact with one another. Rather than just loitering around in their particular districts, gangs will constantly attack one another and even engage in car chases and vehicle combat throughout the game world.

The result is a city which feels far more dynamic and alive than usual, and also gives a feeling of constant danger as a gunfight could break out at any moment. The mod provides tonnes of customization options when it comes to the frequency and difficulty of the gangs that spawn, but generally they will be trying to attack one another rather than you anyway.

3 Let There Be Flight

Views From Above

Cyberpunk 2077 flying car mod

Have you ever wanted to join the sky lanes which are full of passing vehicles overhead? The non-stop bustle of activity in the skies of Night City was something of a mere background noise until now. With jackhumbert's Let There Be Flight mod, you can convert just about any vehicle into a flying car with just one simple button-push.

While not perfect, the navigation mechanics are actually surprisingly not bad considering the flight mechanic was never designed for players to use in-game. It is great to be able to see the city from a new angle, and by the time you become a big player in Night City, you would think you would have access to such technology by now. For players who have already done all there is to do in the game, this can add some extra fun, even if it's not always entirely practical.

2 Dark Future

Cyberpsychosis Isn't Even the Start

Cybperunk dark future survival mod

A lot of people complained about Cyberpunk 2077's pivot from an open world RPG to more of a linear and narrative-driven action-adventure game, but have you ever heard of anyone wanting to play it as a survival experience? For fans of ultra-immersive gameplay, like me, the Dark Future mod by DarkFortuneTeller could be right up your junkie-ridden alley.

The game adds requirements for food, drink, and rest, as well as a new 'Nerve' mechanic which comes with its own status effects and penalties. You can also pick up addictions if you abuse certain chems and medicines, which will in turn lead to negative drawbacks. It's a hardcore mod and one which truly adds another dimension to the game, as you would expect from someone living in such a hyper-stimulated place as Night City. Additionally, there are also further adjustments to injuries, medicine and cyberware.

1 JB - TPP MOD WIP Third Person

A Highly-Requested Game-Changer

Cyberpunk 2077 third person mod

Probably the most dramatic gameplay change you can get via mods is sarunama's TPP Third Person mod. While certainly not perfect, it does the job for players who want to know how Night City feels from a different perspective, and for players who particularly enjoy Cyberpunk 2077's fashion items.

Unfortunately, there's a pretty good reason Cyberpunk 2077 is a first person game. The existing animations are definitely not built for this style of play, and it only really looks good while walking at a slow pace rather than running, jumping, or performing any kind of combat moves. It's a nice insight into what could have been — though personally, I have to say I think CDPR made the right decision by going with a first-person perspective.
