The upcoming Harry Potter reboot TV series has been in production for six months, but thus far there hasn't been much announced from the series since filming kicked off. But now we know who will be scoring the thing: HBO announced Thursday that Hans Zimmer and the Bleeding Fingers music collective will handle the show's music.

Zimmer is responsible for scores to a number of iconic movies, including Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight trilogy, Denis Villeneuve's Dune films, True Romance, Days of Thunder, and even the original The Lion King score. He steps into a role previously held in the Potter franchise by composers John Williams, Patrick Doyle, Nicholas Hooper, and Alexandre Desplat.

"The musical legacy of Harry Potter is a touch point for composers everywhere and we are humbled to join such a remarkable team on a project of this magnitude," Zimmer and Bleeding Fingers' Kara Talve and Anže Rozman said in a statement. "The responsibility is something that myself, Kara Talve, and Anže Rozman do not take lightly. Magic is all around us, often just beyond reach, but as in the world of Harry Potter, you simply must look for it. With this score we hope to bring audiences that little bit closer to it whilst honoring what has come before."

Bleeding Fingers is a collective co-founded by Zimmer that has landed Grammy nominations for its work in film and TV, with a large amount of their work scoring documentaries. Talve is also the principal composer on The Simpsons, having filled the role since 2022.

HBO Max's Harry Potter series will reboot the story with a new cast playing the characters from the films. Dominic McLaughlin is taking over the titular role of Harry Potter, originally played by Daniel Radcliffe. He's joined by a massive cast that includes John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley, Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid, and Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape. Francesca Gardiner (His Dark Materials, The Man in the High Castle) serves as Harry Potter's showrunner, with Mark Mylod (Succession, Game of Thrones) directing. And yes, Harry Potter creator J.K. Rowling is closely involved, serving as an executive producer.

There's still a long wait for the Harry Potter series on HBO and HBO Max. It won't be released until sometime in 2027.
