If you were to imagine the ultimate horror crossover, for a lot of players, Dead by Daylight is what immediately comes to mind. So many different horror IPs cross at the Dead by Daylight Intersection, fans from all over the genre will find something they can connect to and resonate with, knowing that their favs are being represented.
That being said, there are still plenty of characters and IPs missing from the lineup, especially on the Killer side of things.
10 Horror Games That Reward Exploration
Look around and look carefully, you'll never know what's looking right back at you.
There are plenty of characters that would make great Killers in Dead by Daylight, but they're nowhere to be found, leaving players wondering where they are and how they could be added in. Many of these killers are highly requested by all kinds of players, especially horror aficionados who want it all.
While these Killers are just coveted requests, I hope that one day we'll see them featured in Dead by Daylight, forever immortalized among icons.
10 Classic Monsters
How About a Werewolf or Mummy?
While there are plenty of original characters that were meant to fill in various archetypes, there are plenty of monsters that, surprisingly, don't make an appearance. Monsters such as the werewolf, mummy, or even Frankenstein's monster are nowhere to be seen, even though literally everyone knows about these creatures.
Since they're such iconic monsters with well-established lore, there's a good amount of flexibility when it comes to their designs and potential Killer Perks; developers could really go in whatever direction with any of the classic monsters.
If only one had to be picked, I'd wager a vote for either a werewolf if they're going in a more monstrous direction, or Frankenstein's monster if they want more of an established character. Besides, these creatures are in the public domain, meaning that nobody would need to worry about copyright claims or other licensing nonsense (unlike another character).
It's simply a surprise they aren't in the game already, but that can easily change.
9 Pennywise
Spot the Red Balloon
Once you see the Red Balloon, you know you're in trouble — especially since the balloon is attached to Pennywise, the killer clown from Stephen King's IT. Of course, this would make the Survivors be in Derry in order to survive, and that new map would be a welcome bundle with Pennywise in the mix.
His iconic red balloon would work as a charm, while some of his actual Killer Perks could revolve around his demonic abilities (ie: mimicry, shapeshifting, inducing hallucinations) — and since a gang of kids aren't there to stop him with the power of a cosmic turtle god (it's Stephen King, of course it's going to get weird), Survivors have a challenge.
Plus, considering how well IT: Welcome to Derry has been doing lately (especially as the next season is slowly approaching), it would be a neat and relevant collab.
But once the Survivors know how to do the Ritual of Chüd, it's a wrap for Pennywise.
8 Kayako Saeki
Japanese Horror Remains Iconic
For many Western audiences, their only exposure to Japanese horror has been through its most iconic works: Ringu (The Ring) and Ju-On (The Grudge). As a matter of fact, Sadako from Ringu is actually already present in Dead by Daylight, but Kayako Saeki from Ju-On isn't getting the same level of love and representation.
There was even a corny movie about Sadako vs Kayako, so something can easily be tied into Dead by Daylight in that regard.
10 Most Ambitious Horror Games
Even if you reach for the moon and fail, you'll land amongst the stars in a better outcome. These horror games shot further, for the Andromeda galaxy.
The challenging aspects of this would be to make Kayako a distinctly different onryo from Sadako, especially since they have similar looks and mannerisms. That being said, Kayako could easily have a Killer Perk that involves her meowing son, Toshio, while Sadako doesn't have anyone else attached to her.
Even then, there are plenty of characters that are already similar to each other, so having Kayako added into the lineup wouldn't really be any different.
7 The Scissorman
How Big Can the Scissors Get?
Before the horror video game behemoths like Resident Evil and Silent Hill, there was actually a different horror title that defined the genre: Clock Tower, a point-and-click adventure where your life is on the line. Specifically, you have to run and hide from The Scissorman, a villain wielding massive hedge trimmers with an uncontrollable desire to give you a fresh haircut.
It's more of a Cult Classic horror game, but it's no different for The Scissorman to be represented than, say, Ash Williams from the Evil Dead series (which are also Cult Classics, but movies). Horror has always had niche audiences, so imagine reawakening one that's lain dormant for decades — as well as introducing brand-new players.
Of course, the Killer Perk for The Scissorman would revolve around his iconic weapon, so there's already something there to work with; it just wouldn't be right if it were reduced to a charm. But also, imagine the clock tower itself as a new map: it would be genuinely refreshing and just plain neat.
Hopefully, a collaboration with Dead by Daylight would be enough to jump-start the series back to the infamy it lived in (hopefully, with a full 3D Remake).
6 Clickers
Or Other Types of Infected
Of course, everyone knows The Last of Us for its characters (which we would love to see as future Survivors in the game), but on the Killer end of things, the notorious Clickers would be excellent additions. Sure, Fireflies could also work, but Clickers are more relentless in killing things, whether it's in the game or in the HBO adaptation.
For Clickers, an easy Killer Perk revolves around seeing through walls, especially with their echolocation abilities. The only challenge would be how to limit the player controlling the Clicker from being able to see everything normally.
It would also create a unique and distinct fear for players, just like with The Last of Us players: hearing the faint clicks is enough to get your heart to drop, and that's the exact kind of effect good Dead by Daylight Killers have.
5 Carrie White
Get Your Revenge, Girl
Stephen King's works have served as the inspiration for many horror titles, regardless of the type of media they are. Some of King's stories are definitely more popular than others, but I would love nothing more than to see Carrie get some more love and attention — this means making Carrie White one of the new Killers.
Carrie is the first novel King had written, with Carrie herself being an absolutely tragic character. So tragic, in fact, that when she finally does snap and go on a murderous rampage on prom night, all you want to do is cheer her on.
10 Obscure Horror Games that Deserve Remakes/Remasters
While there are plenty of horror classics, we'd love to see some of those classics be more accessible, either with remakes or remasters.
Plus, Carrie's telekinetic abilities (which, fun fact, is actually the Shining in canon) make her a threat to anyone trying to escape her. Not even Stranger Things's Eleven is able to use her telekinetic abilities, which is all the more incentive for Carrie to have and use them as a potential Killer Perk.
And if Dead by Daylight can manage to actually make Carrie White book-accurate (fat, acne-ridden, and conventionally unattractive), that would be genuinely amazing. Making her pretty ruins a major portion of the novel's message, so if this crossover were to happen, I would hope and pray that she's designed with the book's description in mind.
4 Predator
The Alien is Already There, After All
The Predator is one of those monsters that is genuinely surprising to not see as a Killer in Dead by Daylight already, especially with how many people absolutely love Predator.
Plus, since the Xenomorph from Alien is already featured, Dead by Daylight is literally just one killer away from recreating their own version of Alien vs Predator. It's a blend of IPs that players at this point are honestly just waiting to happen in video game format, since it's already made its way to the big screen.
Given the Predator's intense combat prowess, it's only a logical jump that any of its Killer Perks would revolve around those skills. Then again, they may be a little too effective at killing the entire map (but that's what we want anyway).
3 Jason Voorhees
Curse You, Copyright Laws!
Jason Voorhees is a character that fans have been asking to have added to Dead by Daylight for years now, since Friday the 13th is one of the only IPs from the iconic slashers that aren't there, but it's not for a lack of trying on the developers' part. It actually has to do with something that everyone hates, as it sucks the fun out of every possible situation: copyright laws.
That's right. The only thing that's preventing Jason from being added as a Killer in Dead by Daylight already is corporate greed and bureaucratic nonsense.
It's not just Behaviour Interactive (Dead by Daylight's dev team) that's been dealing with licensing issues for Mr. Voorhees; other games that have the genuine Friday the 13th IP attached still end up falling victim to their own copyright strikes. It's surprising that the movies haven't been wiped from history with all the licensing nightmares.
This is going to be a long-lasting battle, and it's one that many players are going to hope ends in a victory for Dead by Daylight (and by extension, slasher fans everywhere).
2 Frank Stone
The Universes are Connected
Did you know that Dead by Daylight actually has a full, extended universe? It's fleshed out through The Casting of Frank Stone, which was developed by Supermassive (the same studio behind The Dark Pictures Anthology and Until Dawn). Because of this, it wouldn't be that far of a leap to introduce Frank Stone himself as a Killer.
Especially since, you know, he's already a Killer in this universe — just somewhere else.
10 Horror Games that Prove Murphy's Law
Everything that can go wrong, will go wrong, and these horror games prove it.
Not only would it show Dead by Daylight fans that there is indeed a universe outside of collaboration, but it would also add a significant amount of depth to the (admittedly surface-level) story. Just saying, it's nice to see that there are more things than just The Entity that are causing a problem here.
And since Frank Stone is part of the Dead by Daylight IP already, there's no worry about copyright ... so why the wait?
1 Slenderman
Creepypastas Deserve a Place in DBD
If you weren't on the weird side of the internet in the early 2010s, you wouldn't have seen the absolute iron grip creepypastas had on horror fans at the time. However, even if you weren't, it's almost guaranteed that you had, at the very least, heard of The Slenderman — whether through his various video games or from horrific true crime cases.
There are all kinds of Killers that are featured, and not a single one of them is tied to a creepypasta in any way. Which, sure, it's relatively niche all things considered (especially since horror is already kind of niche), but Slenderman is an outlier to that. People who are completely disconnected from the horror genre know what Slenderman is, and that deserves equal recognition in Dead by Daylight.
Depending on which version of the creepypasta devs would pull from, the various Killer Perks would change. However, the one that comes to me the most prominently has to do with his tentacles, and the iconic static effect he can cause on technology — just saying, he could ruin any progress a Survivor is making on repairing a generator.
Either way, of all the different horror icons that deserve to shine in the Dead by Daylight spotlight, Slenderman is the most essential to make it onto the list.
Psychological Horror’s Comeback is a Sign of the Times
Not only are the horror games of today scaring us to our core, but they're also holding up a mirror to our society and fears.
