Deep Rock Galactic: Rogue Core has five different Reclaimers for you to learn and master. These operate as classes similar to Deep Rock Galactic, but they'll only provide you with a few abilities rather than any kind of pre-made setup.

One of these classes, The Spotter, is a bit tricky to use and figure out, especially with how builds work in the game. While you can't always get what you want in this difficult roguelike game, knowing what you might need will help tremendously.

This guide will cover The Spotter's overall playstyle in Deep Rock Galactic: Rogue Core and the best build to go for on your runs. Keep in mind the RNG in this game is pretty high, so don't be too rigid and try to play around with things.

How to Play The Spotter?

Primary Ability

Secondary Ability

Secondary Passive

Tertiary Ability

Crit Dart: Fires a dart that causes enemies to take critical damage. Can be shot directly or at the ground to create an AoE.

Scanner: Performs a directional sonar scan, highlighting enemies and supplies.

Sonar Radar: Provides a sonar radar at the bottom of the screen.

Ranger's Pocket: Throws an ammo resupply pack.

The Spotter has a few abilities, but the main draw is the Crit Dart, a dart that raises the crit chance of all attacks by a significant amount. Along with a scanning ability and a deployable ammo pack, The Spotter operates as a support class.

Playing as The Spotter requires a certain amount of communication with your teammates. If you're going to be playing The Spotter, it might be a good idea to buy your Deep Rock Galactic crew a beer before heading out on a mission.

It'll basically break down to you shooting spots where enemies will swarm through to increase the amount of damage you and your teammates put out. You can also shoot it directly at larger enemies to help knock them down quicker.

Combined with your ability to highlight enemies in a direction and provide ammo in desperate times, The Spotter is an incredibly helpful support class. While you can get a build that puts out crazy damage, it is much easier to focus on staying close to teammates and helping them.

The Best Build

DRG Rogue Core Spotter Build Bio Booster 1

This is a bit tougher to get into because, in theory, you won't be able to hit the same upgrades every time during a run. Although you may not be able to hit the same sort of build, it'll provide a good idea of what you should be looking for.

The best build for The Spotter is undeniably a full-on Crit build. If you hit the right upgrades, you can dish out an unending amount of Crit Darts and do insane damage.

This build can also be fed into with certain weapons and gadgets. While these are random, grabbing the following weapons and gadgets will increase your build's viability tremendously:

  • Cadna Field Projector — Fires a projectile that blocks ranged attacks and does damage.
  • Breach Cutter — Fires a projectile that slices through multiple enemies.
  • Sympathy Tether (Tool) — Creates a large AoE that distributes damage to all enemies in it.
  • IFV (Grenade) Creates a field that slows enemies who pass through it.

Getting the guns you want is very unlikely, but when these items do come across your screen, grabbing them will help your build a lot. Each one pairs well with the overall idea behind the Spotters' playstyle and increases the build's lethality.

While the enhancements you can unlock with meta-progression can help forward your build, those will be in another section as they unlock for each class. This means that you may want to choose general good stuff overall before committing to a singular build style.

This build will focus primarily on hitting upgrades that either increase crit damage or provide a bonus for hitting crit damage. Some of the upgrades you want to be on the lookout for:

  • Critical Recharge — Crits replenish ability cooldown and power attack cooldown based on damage dealt.
  • Stunning Recharge — Stunning an enemy replenishes ability and power attack cooldown.
  • Sweet Surrender — Chance to create a Red Sugar Chunk when killing enemies.
  • Ability Booster — Provides cooldown reduction to allies within range when using an ability.
  • Critical Burn — Provides heat to the bullet damage when doing crit damage.

You probably won't hit these every time, but when you do see them, they're worth grabbing. These all combine fairly well with some other upgrades, too, so don't be shy about experimenting.

Your primary focus should be on ability cooldowns, and you can specifically grab Stunning Recharge when you hit Vital Impacts, which causes crits to stun enemies, on your Bio Booster. Between the two Bio Booster decks for Spotter, you'll almost always want to pick something crit-related.

If you can manage to hit Lucky Shot and combine it with some weapons that will hit multiple targets, you'll rarely run out of ammo. Lucky Shot is a great addition to have, but getting extra crit damage or ability reduction based on kills can still be better.

DRG Rogue Core Spotter Build Workbench Upgrades 2

The workbench upgrades for Spotter aren't all that good, but if you happen across a couple of them, they can be a good way to fill out a build. When operating a workbench, try to grab the following upgrades:

  • Critical Splash — Increases the AoE of Crit Dart when shot at the ground.
  • Potent Dart — Increases the duration of Crit Dart.

These effects can be stacked multiple times.

These may not be optimal depending on the situation. For instance, if you have some upgrades revolving around elemental damage, grab an elemental upgrade for your gun instead. The workbench upgrades work best for making the Crit Build more deadly rather than being mandatory.

The Best Enhancements

DRG Rogue Core Spotter Build Enhancements 1

Getting the best enhancements for Spotter isn't something recommended doing at the very start. It isn't hard to build up enough currency to get a ton of enhancements, but it will be difficult at the beginning.

For that reason, treat these as something helpful that may be beneficial while playing as Spotter, or with a Spotter. They will not break your build or make it incredible on their own, as they mostly provide general buffs.

Since all the enhancements are just leveled versions of the same thing, the following are the names and bonuses you'll want to focus on:

  • Deadeye — Increases crit damage.
  • Armour Pack — Increases max armor.
  • Resilience — Increases max health regeneration threshold.
  • Battering Ram — Increase armor-breaking damage.
  • Ammo Pouch — Increases max ammo.
  • Healthy — Increases max health.
  • Sweet Tooth — Increases healing from Red Sugar.
  • Steady Aim — Decreases spread and recoil.

The only one of these that you desperately need is Deadeye for the bonus crit damage, since you'll be able to dish out so much crit damage regularly. The rest is mostly up to you and your playstyle. These are just what slot best into the builds available.

This isn't a fun-from-the-start roguelike, but once you get going and start understanding some of the more core aspects, it can be really enjoyable. Now you should be fairly well set up to take on some tougher challenges. Never forget to Rock and Stone!
