Deltarune fans have discovered a secret death sequence in Chapter 5 that only occurs if the player deliberately loses to the single worst attack in the game, one involving a slow but incredibly violent duck.

Undertale/Deltarune creator Toby Fox loves his joke attacks, even when they're thrown in the middle of a more serious bullet pattern. Everything from the Annoying Dog rushing in to monsters being too depressed to attack has appeared in Fox's games, as they match his comedic sensibilities.

Some of the trickiest boss fights in Deltarune Chapter 5 involve Aqua and her endless array of knives. It turns out that the dual boss fight with her and Seth holds a hilarious secret death scene, but players have to go out of their way to find it. As discovered by the Faxz Cheng YouTube channel, if the comedy duck attack hits the player, then a terrible fate awaits them.

Deltarune Chapter 5's Duck Has A Special Attack For Slaying Players

During the Aqua and Seth fight, they'll throw out what they claim is a special attack, but it's actually just a rubber duck that slowly moves across the screen and is incredibly easy to avoid. Most players who have endured the hellish Aqua knife attack patterns should easily be able to avoid the duck, but it's possible to ram into it.

If only a single party member is left standing and is down to their last hit point, Aqua and Seth will throw out another duck. The only difference this time is that the duck will track the player across the screen, closing in for the inevitable kill, before growing a single massive arm and crushing the human soul within its grasp.

While some of the deaths in Deltarune Chapter 5 don't cause a Game Over due to Flowery stepping in and saving the party or the group being spared, the duck death is not so forgiving. Anyone who succumbs to the duck's final attack is given a Game Over and is expected to start from their last save.

Deltarune is full of obscure moments that players really need to go out of their way to see, some of which involve lots of backtracking or purposely losing what should be really easy fights. The duck death falls into the latter category, as while most of the Aqua fights are difficult (especially the first one, when Kris fights them alone), the duo attack is the kind of thing meant to give players a breather and earn some free TP.

Toby Fox mentioned that Deltarune Chapter 5 is one last fun adventure with the gang, and considering how the Weird route ended, it seems that things are going to get much darker in the final few episodes. While there will almost certainly be comedy elements and funny moments, things are going to get more depressing when the truth behind the Soul, Kris, December, and the Roaring Knight is finally revealed.

Luckily, there are enough jokes throughout most of Deltarune to keep things light on later playthroughs, especially with so many moments that fans have to go out of their way to see. While most people aren't going to die on the duck attack, there's at least a funny scene for those who willingly succumb to the rubber horror, which is a big part of what makes Toby Fox's games so rewarding to play.
