Chapter 5 of Deltarune is finally here, and with it, we have been blessed with another brutal Secret Boss to bash our heads against until we finally claim victory!
To all of you who were hoping for a grim and dark secret boss that would greatly expand the lore of Deltarune, I’m afraid I’m going to have to disappoint you, because it’s Hatsuke Miku time. And to be honest, I might have rolled my eyes at the beginning, but this encounter and, of course, the theme, grew on me massively the more I played.
Deltarune: Flowery Boss Fight Guide
Anything is possible with the power of friendship!
Perhaps for now, just enjoy the ride and try not to think about this one too deeply, despite its overarching themes of autonomy and how that might relate to our Soul and Kris's desires. Let’s take a look at the Pink fight and how to get our hands on the next Shadow Crystal.
Pink Fight Overview
So, the gimmick of this fight is that now, you’re purple! Or should I say, Fuchsia? Any of those who’ve played Undertale might remember this from the Muffet fight back in, oh god… 2015. Instead of moving around the battle area, you’re stuck moving in the 4 cardinal directions for the majority of Pink’s attacks.
In addition, you can’t actually directly hurt Pink here, because she’s a ghost inhabiting a doll, just like Mew Mew from Undertale. Instead, you’ll need to fill up her Doki metre 3 times over the course of the fight. You can do this by flirting with her or by giving her food items.
At the end of each phase, you’ll enter a dating scene, where you’ll need to answer 3 questions correctly in order to move on.
Team Strategy
In terms of what you need to do, it’s really not too complicated. For Kris, you can focus on either guarding or using items to heal the team, with the occasional single flirt for good measure.
For Susie, you’ll usually be throwing out single flirts in order to get Pink’s Doki Metre up to 5. She can also get in some good healing with Green Tea.
Regarding Ralsei, you have a more important task. In this fight, you start with a massively reduced TP bar. You’re going to need to use Lovely Boy to boost your TP bar back up to at least 80%. Reaching 80% lets us use the Giga-Flirt ACT, which increases the Doki Metre by a massive 10 points!
So, use single Flirts until you reach 5 Doki, and then save your TP for the Giga-Flirt. It’s worth mentioning also that if one of your teammates is down, the regular Flirt will instead give 2 Doki. So, if you want to play a bit more riskily, you can try completing this fight with just 2 members.
Make sure you fill your inventory with Green Tea, Revive Mints, or the special party-wide healing juice from the Castle Cafe Cending Machine. Pink deals a lot of damage if you lose focus.
Pink's Attacks
Pink - Phase 1
So, with actions out of the way, let’s take a look at some of the attacks Pink can dish out in the first phase of the fight.
|
Here, you’ll be stuck in 3 purple rows, with the ability to move up and down between them. Cats will come in from the sides, along with little pink hearts that, when collected, will grant you bonus TP. |
Simply move up and down to dodge the cats, and try to catch the hearts before you get hit. |
|
Here, you’re placed on a square grid of 16 dots. Pink will throw bombs, which will explode in a line, both vertically and horizontally. |
As the bombs land, imagine a large plus sign stemming from the bomb covering the vertical and horizontal areas. You just need to move to any area that is not covered by those lines. This attack gets faster and faster, so you’ll need to start anticipating where bombs will land. |
|
On the 5th attack, Pink will turn the arena into a stage. The dummies will shoot at you from the edges of the pit. If you get these hearts to hit Pink, she will release her own hearts, which will heal you and grant TP. |
Stay near the top, and anticipate Pink as she moves from side to side. The heart bullets will track you for a bit, so try moving in a circular motion. |
Once you’ve reached 15 Doki, you’ll enter the dating mode. For this, you’ll need to answer 3 questions:
- And you wanna walk me home? - YES
- It’s because you think this body’s cute, right? - YES
- You… wish you’d never met me, right? - NO
Pink - Phase 2
For Phase 2 of the fight, your TP metre will be reset. In reality, action-wise, this phase isn’t that different from the previous; you’ll just have to rinse and repeat. The only difference is that now you’ll probably have taken a bit of damage, so you’ll need to weave in some heals while building TP.
Many of the previous attacks return, but with new patterns, so look out for those. Pink does have some new attacks here, so let’s take a quick look at them:
|
You’ll be placed on a plus-shaped grid, with 5 points. Full coins and half coins will come from each direction. |
Simply move around on the grid, watching each direction and planning your moves in advance. Try to grab the big hearts as they give 3 TP each. |
|
Here, you’ll be put into a tunnel filled with swirling electrical gates. You need to move forward to get deeper into the tunnel while being chased by a wall of electricity. |
Always look a couple of circles in front of where you actually are. I found it easiest to move forward a couple of places at a time, pause, and then move again. |
Pink will also integrate bigger bombs into her Bomb Grid attack, but you’re given ample time to avoid these. Once you’ve reached 15 Doki again, the 2nd dating scene will begin.
Here, you need to give answers that satisfy both the doll and the ghost, so something that has 2 meanings. Here are a few examples from a long list of questions:
- Susie’s Jeans + Female Dog = Husky
- How’ll you hold me? + Chicken Meat = Tender
- My Bike part + Act bored = I Tire
- Which Metal could? + Call us scrap! = Tin Can
- Pay attention to me? + Prefer Noelle! = Fawn over her
Remember, you’re trying to be nice to the doll and mean to the ghost to satisfy both dates at once, so look for those answers with double meanings, even if they are a little bit vague.
Pink - Phase 3
In this phase, Pink’s Doki metre will be raised to 20, so you’ve got to last a little bit longer than the previous phases.
The interesting thing about phase 3 is that there aren’t really any new attacks to be aware of. Instead, each attack is just made a little more difficult, building upon what you’ve already learned.
- The Coin Toss attacks now have the ghost kick your cube over, rotating you 90 degrees each time, which can be a bit disorienting.
- The Bomb Grid is now all big bombs, which is, oddly enough, a bit easier to dodge.
- The Mew Mew Bullets also have Pink throwing bombs at you from overhead, meaning you’ll have to move more horizontally, instead of just up and down.
Upon hitting 20 Doki, you’ll enter a strange version of the dating scene, where Pink will be suspended by green strings, just like with Spamton Neo.
Here, you’ll need to move your Soul to reach the Pink Hearts, which will turn the damaging dialogue boxes into positive ones. You’ll have to do this 4 times in total, being extremely careful to avoid the moving boxes. Take your time here, as there is no time limit. It would be pretty awful to lose the fight here.
On the 4th attack, you’ll see a large snaking line. You’ll need to make your way around this line while being chased by evil dialogue boxes! Luckily, there are pink dots which serve as safe zones. However, you’ll still need to move pretty fast to get there in time, so be quick!
Once you’ve done this, just stall until you reach the next scene. You’ll have to choose the following options:
- I Got Scared
- Anyone Else’s
- Love Us Both
Finally, the doll and the ghost will merge once more, and the fight will be over! Congratulations! That was pretty tough!
Rewards
Upon completion of this fight, you’ll be given a Shadowcrystal to add to your ever-growing collection.
In addition, upon collecting all 19 Pink Coins, you can enter a new room north of the Hammer NPC, who appears in the western room. Here, you can pick 3 Flower items from a choice of 6, each costing 3 Pink coins. You will also get the Flowery Scarf once making your choice!
