Grind levels, improve your equipment, and pass new bills at the Dark Chocolate Assembly to make the numbers go up until you’re dealing a million damage with every hit! You can even recruit classic demons like the Prinny to bring along with you! The missions are quick and never feel like a drag, and the gameplay loop is both addictive and satisfying. The story is a comedic riot that walks a fine line, being silly without becoming stupid or shallow.

The progression system successfully combines traditional level grinding with the sense of scale found in incremental idle games, but without turning it into the kind of repetitive treadmill so many games have become in Disgaea Mayhem. These are genuinely impressive accomplishments, even if the graphics and gameplay don’t break new ground. NIS clearly prioritized arcade-style replayability over a more conventional “play it once” story-driven single-player experience.

Nothing groundbreaking by any means, but it provides a nice interlude between fights. Battles are quick and rewarding thanks to generous drops and experience gains at Disgaea Mayhem. The reincarnation system gives players a strong incentive to keep growing even stronger, while the variety of spells and power variations across different weapons, and even weapons of the same type, keeps swapping equipment from becoming repetitive.
