Drone Sector is a futuristic gunship game. Provide close air support by firing a variety of weapons at the enemies and guiding your allied troops.

Drone Sector PC (Early Access)

Keep your troops alive, complete objectives, collect resources and recruit engineers. Research better weaponry for the gunship and the troops. Drone Sector fuses the gunship close air support role with the drone’s observation and mission command. Inspired by the real-life AC-130 gunship and MQ-9 Reaper drone, it merges these powerful roles in a futuristic setting at Drone Sector, where advanced technology and heavier firepower enable you to take on more complex and dangerous missions. While not a pure military simulator, the focus remains on tactical planning and execution, with greater flexibility in mission design and weaponry.

Guide your squads as they advance through hostile environments to achieve mission objectives. Command with precision, helping them avoid traps and eliminating high-priority threats with your overwhelming firepower. Outnumbered by enemy forces in Drone Sector, you’ll need to maximize your technological superiority to turn the tide. During each mission, you’ll need to make strategic decisions about resource gathering. Send your ground squads into buildings or key areas to collect vital resources and research documents—but this comes with risk. Stay too long, and you may lose your squad to overwhelming enemy forces.

Decide when to extract and when to push your luck for valuable rewards. Between missions back at base, upgrade your gunship, squads, and weapons. Manage your ammo production and research new technologies to improve your chances in the field. The largest and most important thing that needs to be fixed is AI pathing, specifically for vehicles. On the friendly side, there are moments where they need to be babysat or readjusted, most often around bridges. APCs can glitch out and even teleport into the water, destroying themselves.

This isn’t too noticeable with miniguns, but once the 40mm or the 105mm comes into play, it’s infuriating. Some things are not perfect quite yet, but that’s to be expected from an early access game. For first-time players with no knowledge of Drone Sector, it’s easy to use the 20mm on everything and burn through ammo, while the more precise weapons, like the 40mm, are much more ammo-efficient. The infantry also moves painfully slowly, which can cause missions to fail because they don’t reach the extraction point before the vehicle runs out of fuel. These are just the minor flaws of a game still in development.

Features of Drone Sector:

  • Fluid, responsive gunship weapon controls
  • Handcrafted levels with randomized missions
  • Resource collection and ammunition management
  • Weapon research and manufacturing
  • Commanding self-sufficient squads on the ground
  • A variety of infantry and armored unit types
  • Multiple camera modes: color, night vision and thermal vision
  • Mission-to-Mission Progression
  • Squad building and upgrades
  • On the enemy side, it’s even more frustrating. Pressing **V** on a target shows its predicted location so rounds can be fired accurately, yet the second the shots are fired, the AI drifts a little too far off the road and comes to a near stop, completely wasting the salvo in Drone Sector.
  • Anyone willing to look past the slight imperfections will find plenty of fun here. The guns are satisfying to shoot. Commanding units isn’t very tedious, unlike some similar RTS games where unit management can become a chore. The graphics requirements are completely reasonable. The UI and controls are simple and easy to understand, and the tutorials are informative and to the point when it comes to the missions.
