Echoes of Aincrad is the next big Sword Art Online game, which does a great job of showcasing what a next-gen title in that universe could look like and enthralling you with a host of new RPG systems for all fans to enjoy. And one of them just so happens to be an integral component: your character's player attributes.

If you've played or are familiar with a soulslike game, then you'll instantly understand what these mean, but if not, basically, every time you level up in this game, you'll receive Growth Points, which you can then invest into your attributes, ranging from stats like your Vitality, Endurance and more. Optimally allocating these points is crucial to ensuring your survival and dealing proper damage with your weapons across the many quests that await you in Echoes of Aincrad.

In this guide for Echoes of Aincrad, I'll briefly explain what each attribute entails and give you an overview of which stats or "builds" to invest in to correctly tailor each weapon's scaling.

Every Attribute in Echoes of Aincrad Explained

what are attrobutes in echoes of aincrad

Each weapon subtype will have an Ability Correction Value (ACV) and a rating of A, B, C or D. The higher the rating in that attribute, the more that weapon will scale with it when you upgrade that attribute.

Attribute

Explanation

VIT (Vitality)

Vitality controls how much HP your character has; the higher the stat, the more Base HP you have. Most Bonus Modifiers grant you extra HP, along with the Healing Crystal's healing bonus at level 30.

END (Endurance)

Endurance determines your character's total stamina. The more your Stamina, the more attacks you can dish out and the longer you can sprint in combat.

MND (Mind)

The Mind attribute affects your SP-related abilities. This includes your SP gauge, meaning the more you have, the more weapon skills you can chain before needing to recharge it.

STR (Strength)

Strength mainly focuses on heavy weapons such as Two-Handed Axes and Maces, which deliver raw attack power and can smash through enemy defenses.

DEX (Dexterity)

Dexterity, on the other hand, is crucial for your Swords and Two-handed Greatswords. The Bonus Modifiers of this attribute can boost your Weapon Skills and, on some levels, increase your parry/dodge window.

AGI (Agility)

Agility primarily affects your character's speed and evasion, directly benefiting weapons such as Daggers and Rapiers. The Bonus Modifier levels here can increase attack and sprint speed, both of which can make combat feel less clunky if that's something that bothers you.

INT (Intelligence)

Lastly, Intelligence is one of the lower-tier attacks I didn't get to experiment with much, but it correlates with some of your elemental-based attacks, weapons that scale with this stat and throwable items.

Best Attribute Spread For Every Weapon Type

Sword and Two-Handed Greatsword

  • SWORDS IN ECHOES OF AINCRAD

  • two handed swords in echoes of aincrad

First up, we have the default weapon that you'll begin the game with: the sword. Since this is a one-handed light weapon, you can also have a shield equipped to parry incoming attacks. And you can also consider this as your starting build if you're confused.

Firstly, the universal attributes I'd always recommend prioritizing in this game are VIT > END >, and then whichever weapon attribute scaling you're running. Some of the bosses in this game aren't jokes, and your stamina can drain quickly unless you're using light weapons like daggers or rapiers.

For the sword, focus your points on DEX. Ideally, you want a 1:2 spread, with VIT and END taking priority. Don't worry about damage. Until you safely hit +10 levels in VIT, then start dumping more points into Dexterity to further boost your sword damage.

The Two-Handed Sword, or as I like to call it, the Greatsword, sacrifices your shield in favor of slow yet hard-hitting attacks, and, much like the one-handed variant mentioned above, most of these attacks also scale with Dexterity. So, use the same structure as before, but if there are exceptions where weapons have a secondary ACV attribute, prioritize that as the last upgrade. Since you won't have the shield and are wielding a heavier weapon, the tradeoff is that your swift dodge instead becomes a roll.

Rapiers and Daggers

  • Rapier weapon type in echoes of aincrad

  • daggers in echoes of aincrad

Things get a little interesting when you account for both the rapier and dagger weapon types for leveling in Echoes of Aincrad. Both of these weapon types largely scale with Agility.

Be mindful that you can't use a shield with Rapiers.

Meaning, unless you have weapon mods that scale a tiny bit with STR or DEX, you should primarily focus on upgrading your AGI alongside VIT and END. Again, you'll get some specific weapons that might scale with a secondary stat as well, so upgrade both stats evenly whenever that happens so that you don't lose out on your optimal damage.

Maces and Two-Handed Axes

  • maces in echoes of aincrad

  • two handed axes in echoes of aincrad

Finally, for all of my bonking brethren, the maces and two-handed axes are both weapon archetypes that scale mainly with Strength. The Mace is also an excellent weapon for triggering Guard Breaks and easily knocking down enemies. The two-handed axe is just as good, but relies heavily on its AOE attacks. But keep in mind that, much like the aforementioned Greatsword, you can't wield a shield when using the axes.

For stats, since the attacks from these two weapons already hit hard, I strongly recommend upgrading your Endurance further, as swinging them will quickly eat up your stamina. And without any stamina, you won't be able to perform your dodges or sprint when in combat. I'd also suggest later on keeping AGI as the fourth stat on the sideline to slowly grow, since you'll be able to make your attacks a little faster along with your sprint speed.
