Elden Ring Nightreign: Scholar Remembrance Guide

4 hours ago 2

If you’re looking for a good challenge in Elden Ring Nightreign, then look no further. The Scholar Remembrance Quest is here, folks, and it isn’t pulling any punches. Yep, 9 chapters, and plenty of difficult bosses. But if I can do it, you can too.

This quest will send you into Limveld, into Frozen castles, down into the Great Hollow, pit you against angels and demons, and force you to read a bunch of books. But equipped with your trusty cane and monocle, what more could you possibly need?

The Scholar is the ultimate support class in Elden Ring Nightreign.

I’ll take you step by step through the Scholar’s Remembrance Quest and show you the rewards gained from its full completion.

How To Unlock The Scholar

Elden Ring Nightreign Scholar Selection

As soon as you’ve downloaded the Nightreign DLC, you can head over to the location where the Small Jar Merchant used to be. Now the doors to the chapel will be ajar. Interact with them, and you’ll be teleported to a battleground where the Dreglord awaits you.

Win or lose this fight, and you can return to the roundtable hold. Now the Chapel doors will be open, and you can recruit the Scholar and the Undertaker to your cause.

Simply go on a few expeditions as the Scholar to get the first few memory fragments. You don’t actually need to win the first few to get Chapter 3, but still try your hardest. You’ll need that determination for later in the quest chain.

Chapter 3 - The Sunken Depths

Begin the Remembrance in Chapter 3, and you will spawn into the Chapel area of Roundtable Hold. Read the book on the desk, and it will give you a personal objective for your Limveld Map.

You need to head into Limveld and collect the Vassal’s Journal. The journal will spawn beneath one of the sunken castles. You can see this via the little red bell, which appears on your minimap.

While the objective might say to find the objective beneath a marsh, the area may not always be a poisonous swamp. In fact, mine was actually a frozen castle, as you can see in the video below. However, it doesn’t matter whether yours is poison or frost; the dungeon layout will always be the same. I would recommend that you simply enter the map, without any Shifting Earth events, in solo mode.

I tried to complete this on a normal Nightreign boss, but the dungeon didn’t spawn. This expedition must be on one of the DLC bosses, either Balancers or Dreglord.

  • Begin the expedition, and feel free to skip the levelling process. It’s pretty easy to get through the dungeon without taking a hit.
  • Beeline towards the randomly generated dungeon, shown by the bell on your map.
  • Enter through the main sunken doorway and take a left.
  • Go left again and drop to the ledge below. On the wall to your right, you will see an opening.
  • Head on through, drop through the hole, and you will see the journal sitting on a desk.
  • Grab the Journal and then simply wait for the match to finish. Don’t quit out, as you will have to do this whole process again.

Now, you can head back to the Chapel, where you’ll find the Undertaker licking the odd purple slime on the wall. This makes slightly more sense if you’ve already done the Undertaker Remembrance.

If you’re ever stuck on where to go in a Remembrance quest, simply pull up the map and look for the exclamation mark.

Exhaust her dialogue and then talk to the Iron Menial who is standing in the doorway. Now, inspect the Journal on the desk. After a short while, the Undertaker will beckon you over. Speak with her, and tell her you intend the leave the Roundtable Hold.

At this point, you can exit through the spiral of light and move on to the next chapter. You will receive the Scholar’s Chalice as a reward for this chapter. It has a Red slot, a Blue slot and a Universal colour slot.

Chapter 5 - The Godskin Invader

As soon as you begin Chapter 5, head west to the Small Jar Merchant and ask to be shown to the Great Hollow. This will transport you directly to the northwest castle, without you having to actually begin a real expedition. Despite this, you’re still going to want to prepare some decent relics, as there’s a good bit of combat in this section.

For me, I found that equipping relics that give you starting items is pretty great here. Whether it's any type of throwing pot or throwing knives, or more specifically, a Wraith Calling Bell, these will help make up for your Rapier's rather poor damage. Failing this, a frostbite or bleed imbue on your starting weapon works well too.

  • In the new area, take out the mage enemies on the ground floor first. They will get in your way later on.
  • Head up the first flight of stairs and then the second on the other side of the room.
  • Go to the broken railing and jump over to the huge hanging rock. Now turn right and jump up to the rafters.
  • Look for the hole in the wall and inspect the door within. It will tell you to inspect the source of the noise below.
  • Head over to the other side of the rafters and look down to see 2 Marauders and 1 Godskin Apostle. Throw your pots down for some easy splash damage, and then drop down to fight them.
  • If you have it, use your ultimate to link them together, and retreat towards the stairs to try and control their movements. If you can get them into a single file line, this becomes a lot easier.
  • Once the boss is down, head back to the door that you previously examined. Interact with the giant crystal inside, and the remembrance will be completed.

For completing this chapter, you’re awarded the Cleansing Tear Relic. This is a Red Slot relic with the following bonuses:

  • Continuous damage inflicted on targets threaded by Ultimate Art
  • Improved Affinity Damage Negation
  • Defeating enemies fills more of the Art gauge

If you don’t have a lot of item-boosting relics, this is a pretty good one to start with.

Elden Ring Nightreign Balancers

A lot of folks have said that the remembrance ends here, but that’s far from the truth, I’m afraid. It’s just that Chapter 8 isn’t exactly obvious to unlock. What you need to do is beat the Balancers with the Scholar. If the Balancers haven’t been defeated, this chapter will never unlock.

Chapter 8 - The Dreglord Cometh

Enter the next chapter and speak with the Undertaker in the Chapel area. Continue through her dialogue until she returns the Monocle Case.

Check the map, which indicates that you should head over to the Dresser room. Look in the mirror and then return to the Chapel. Interact with the desk and select the “Oneself” option. This will add a new objective to your map. Specifically, to kill the Dreglord!

Elden Ring Nightreign Dreglord

Making sure that you’re still within the remembrance, queue up an expedition for the Dreglord and head into Limveld one more time.

This is a particularly tricky boss, with 2 health bars, a bunch of individual phases and no obvious weakness. The main gimmick of this boss is Scarlet Rot, so if you can build up a good amount of resistance for that, or equip relics or weapons that benefit from Scarlet Rot in the area, that should help.

Keep your distance, make sure he’s constantly weakened by your main character skill and eventually, you should claim victory. Upon completion of this expedition, you’ll be given the Headband of the Golden Ones.

Return to the Undertaker and exhaust her dialogue. After that, you can interact with the table in the Chapel for the final time. Congratulations, Remembrance complete!

Rewards and Skins

Elden Ring Nightreign Scholar Rewards

You might have noticed, upon interacting with the table for the final time, the Scholar gains his Remembrance skin, with him wearing the newly acquired Headband.

However, if this is your first time completing the Dreglord, you’ll also have access to the Dawn and Darkness Skins. You can also purchase Oswald of Carim’s Set from Dark Souls 1, and also the mad-looking Xanthous Set, a variation of which can be found in all Dark Souls titles and even Demon’s Souls!

Elden Ring Nightreign Dear Successor

What’s more, you also get a new relic: Note “My Dear Successor.” This is a yellow Relic with the following benefits:

  • Allies targeted by Character Skill gain boosted attack
  • Prevent slowing of Character Skill progress
  • Character Skill Cooldown Reduction +3

It’s pretty bizarre that this wasn’t actually received earlier in the progression of the Scholar, because the effect that this gives is pretty fundamental in making this character viable.

Before, when using your analysis skill, while there were circles around your allies, this didn’t actually do anything; it only affected your enemies.

However, now with this relic, you can analyse your teammates and give them a nice attack buff, making the Scholar even more valuable as a support member.
