Jaime Tugayev is the News Editor for DualShockers with over a decade of experience, and a much longer love for fantasy, shooters and strategy games.

If the rainy season makes you feel at home, and you thrive in the cynical yet suave vibes of downbeat detectives, this week is dedicated to you.

The weekly game giveaways on the Epic Games Store have prepared a lovely noir combo, available to claim from now until 16:00 on February 19th.

In the spirit of avoiding clichés, neither of these is set in the mid-century, pandering instead to both fans of David Lynch and Philip K. Dick.

Nobody Wants to Die

Nobody Wants to Die 01

Welcome to New York City. The year is 2329, there are flying cars, and it's a miracle nobody got sued for ripping off Blade Runner. For that, we are thankful, since the official Blade Runner game adaptation has been cancelled.

Nobody Wants to Die puts you in the shoes of a detective chasing a serial killer in a city of immortals. Critical Hit brings this world to life with beautiful graphics and a unique blend of futurism and retro aesthetics without feeling tacky.

This first-person noir adventure takes about 6-8 hours to finish, and is one of the most underrated games released in 2024.

The Darkside Detective: A Fumble in the Dark

The Darkside Detective 01

Keeping up with the theme of barely disguised adaptations, The Darkside Detective: A Fumble in the Dark takes you back to the town of Twin Lakes, population 75666, and no association whatsoever with Twin Peaks, population 51201.

This pixel art delight captures the chaotic supernatural vibes of Twin Peaks' third season, released the same year as the game's prequel, but also has a healthy infusion of The Twilight Zone.

As part of the Darkside Division, you get to investigate different supernatural occurrences with an expertly balanced mix of humor and darkness. The Darkside Detective is the perfect example of why minimalistic game design works so well when done right.
