Covering the video games industry since 2017, with experience in news, articles, lists, and reviews (and I blame The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask for that).

If you are a fan of RPGs and want a third-person version: Tayná Garcia is a Brazilian journalist (but you can call her Tay) who ended up working with video games after finishing Zelda: Majora's Mask when she was a kid. With more than eight years of experience in the segment, she has been an assistant editor at Jovem Nerd in the past and is currently a contributor at DualShockers and a writer for gaming magazines for Editora Europa. Oh, and she may like Hideo Kojima a bit too much.

Following days of community speculation and pressure, Epic Games has officially confirmed that players can now refund cosmetics related to the artist D4vd in Fortnite. The developer also hinted that further changes regarding the content are on the way.

Fortnite Finances Called into Question as Epic Axes 1000 Employees and Three Game Modes

Epic Games has laid off over 1,000 employees and cut three game modes from Fortnite, raising questions about the company's (and Fortnite's) future.

This decision comes just days after 21-year-old David Burke, known professionally as D4vd, was charged with first-degree murder, lascivious acts with a minor under 14, and mutilation of a corpse in the death of Celeste Rivas Hernandez.

The Fortnite community has been vocal in demanding the removal of all content linked to the artist, which includes various cosmetic items such as emotes, skins, gliders, and back blings, in recent months.

Following the outcry on social media and gaming forums, some users began requesting refunds via manual player support, which were subsequently approved. Now, Epic Games has officially streamlined the process for everyone.

In a statement shared on the official Fortnite X (formerly Twitter) account, the company outlined the next steps for those looking to return the items:

“We hear the concerns. We have a bunch of changes we’re rolling out over time,” the statement reads. “The first one will be available on Tuesday, April 28th, when anyone who purchased one of these items will be able to get an immediate self-service refund. And, right now, players who request refunds for D4vd cosmetics via player support can be refunded.”

Users began requesting refunds via manual player support, which were subsequently approved. Now, Epic Games has officially streamlined the process for everyone.

While the self-service refund solves the issue for those who purchased the items with V-Bucks, a segment of the player base remains in a gray area. In the comments sections, there are some players reporting that they obtained these emotes for free as rewards for high placements in tournaments. Since a financial refund doesn't apply to them, these players are asking Epic Games to provide an option to simply delete the items from their digital lockers entirely.

At the same time, a significant portion of the player base is pushing for a total purge, expressing frustration that the items haven't been removed “for good.” While Epic Games has yet to confirm a permanent removal of D4vd’s content, their official teaser of “upcoming changes” indicates that a full wipe from the game's files could be the next step. So we’ll have until the publisher shares more information about this in the next few weeks.
