Every week, the Epic Games Store turns into a comfy treasure trove for PC players, consistently offering a rotating selection of free titles that range from hidden indie gems to nostalgic cult classics.

It has just become a weekly ritual for many of us to see what the storefront is handing out, but rarely do we see two incredible games available at once! And this time around, we are getting a slice of 90s psychological dread alongside one of the most vibrant modern beat-'em-ups on the market. So, whether you are looking for a scary experience that will leave you questioning reality or a brawl to enjoy with friends, this week’s lineup has you covered.

If you consider yourself a fan of psychological horror that bypasses cheap jump scares to target your actual subconscious, then look no further than I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream. Originally released in 1995, this classic point-and-click adventure is based on Harlan Ellison’s iconic short story, and it remains one of the most unsettling experiences in gaming history.

The premise is pure sci-fi tragedy: civilization has been almost entirely decimated by a military supercomputer that achieved sentience and decided that humanity was better off extinct (or rather, held in eternal torment). So you play through the fractured, nightmarish scenarios of the five remaining human survivors, each forced to face their own specific brand of psychological hell for over a century – and what makes this game stand out is its commitment to the genre.

It leans heavily into themes of paranoia, guilt, and regret, and the gameplay is quite straightforward, tasking you with navigating dialogue and items to solve puzzles, all while a morality system tracks your choices. However, be warned: while the narrative is profoundly engaging and the voice acting is surprisingly immersive for its time, the puzzle design can become a bit confusing and counterintuitive toward the final act. Still, it is worth the experience.

Now, if you want to swing in the opposite direction (or perhaps experience something a bit lighter after a dose of psychological horror), we have River City Girls 2. I mean, if I Have No Mouth is all about existential dread, River City Girls 2 is just pure adrenaline.

Coming from the long-running Kunio-kun franchise, this title puts you in control of Kyoko and Misako as they tear through the streets in true delinquents-in-love fashion. It is a fully fleshed-out beat-'em-up with some interesting RPG elements, allowing you to explore a semi-open world, gather new moves, upgrade equipment, and boost your stats at local restaurants. Also, the combat is remarkably fluid, with a variety of characters to choose from, each with distinct playstyles.

So, if you are looking to kill some time this week, you really couldn't ask for a better combination!
